Disneyland Celebration?

Neither I nor my DH have ever been to DL. We are very frequent goers to WDW but are REALLY wanting to try out DL. We were thinking of going this year and wondering if there are going to be any special happenings for the anniversary celebration. I know that they are having a celebration at WDW that we are going to in May. Just wondering what is on the agenda for DL. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The kick off is May 5 for all Disney parks. In DL specifically, that is the opening of the Buzz Lightyear ride, everything is getting a makeover for the celebration (fresh coat of paint, etc), many of the attractions will have a special gold vehicle, and Space Mountain will reopen sometime during the 18 month long celebration. There will also be a new parade and fireworks show.

Thanks got2travel! I read your trip report the other day and it sounds as if you go to DL quite a bit and I know that you really enjoy WDW. SO, a question. If we have never been to DL and are SERIOUS fans/AP holders at WDW, how will DL compare? Is it still the same feel and just as much to do, just not spread out in 4 seperate parks? THANKS a head of time!

And oh yes, which hotel to stay at? Is there one more in the middle of all the action?
