Disneyland (California) - Wedding Proposal help?

Original idea: Was to be walking by one of the random street shows they do and be pulled in and asked to stand there. Then have a Good character like Goofy or Mickey come in and hand her a balloon with a hidden ring tied to the string inside the balloon and a weight on the bottom so it wouldn't fly away. Then a villain character like Pete could come in and would pop the balloon. Goofy would then take the popped balloon place it in my hands and shrug his shoulders like "oh well" then I would open up the pieces of the popped balloon to revile the ring and drop down to my knee and ask her the question. Then Goofy could come back after I ask and hand her a new unpopped balloon. I also wanted to have maybe a friend or family member secretly there to photograph and maybe video tape the whole thing. I also had one last surprise to get us front row for the world of color show later on in the day. Anyways that was my idea but it doesn't seem possible now. I would be happy to do anything that would make her happy though. I want to involve the balloon some how because every time we go she always asks for one :)

My more realistic back up plan now is to do the thing with the photopass people and slip them a note that I will be proposing so we can get photos. I havent completly thought this through but I would go get the balloon and tie it to the end of the box or ring, and then have her wait for me somewhere while I got set it up and come back with the end of the balloon string inside my pocket like its caught on something, then hand the string to her surprize her when she tries to pull it out and get the string unstuck.

You should go buy a fairly heavy balloon, like a mylar, and the ribbon they use at DL and practice this at home. I think this is a better idea than popping a balloon because you don't know where the ring would land. You might try going to the photo shop to ask what time they will have the most PhotoPass people out at the castle, and tell them what you're planning. But I do have one question/suggestion. Will she be suspicious when you go off alone to buy a balloon? Stopping by the photo shop would also involve splitting up. Are you alone on this trip or can someone help you? Some couples spend every second together and for others, splitting up wouldn't trigger an suspicions.

I haven't completely thought it through yet but I could probably say something like Ill be right back I'm going to the bathroom, or something like that. She might be a little suspicious but when she sees me coming back with the balloon shes always asking for every time we go I'm sure she will forget about that and be happy and then be even happier when I ask her :) I'm not sure if I want to invite anyone yet but I probably will and if I do that it will make things easier to walk away for a few mins. I like your Idea about practicing, less chance of it not going perfect. Thank you for the advice that is also a good idea asking about the photo pass people.

One idea...propose to her on her favorite ride.

Or do it on a ride like Its A Small World or Pirates and make signs for the people sitting behind you to hold up when you pop the question.

Make a reservation for 11:30 lunch at Blue Bayou and ask for a waterside table. tell the reception desk you are going to pop the question. Ask her while a boat is going by on the ride...so when you get down on one knee, maybe you'll have people cheering. ;-)

Or ask her on the very first ride you ever went on together at DL.

Or ask her right under the Adventureland sign and say something romantic like "In this happiest place on earth, would you do me the honor of joining me on the adventure of a lifetime and marrying me?" Wear an Indiana Jones hat while you do it. Or do the same thing only at a Princess Jasmine meet and greet in Adventure land.

You might have more success if you have some of your friends involved. A friend of ours had the mother of another friend sit close to them at a restaurant. His girlfriend did not know her, and she was in her late 60`s or 70`s. All she did was look at them say you are such a lovely couple you remind me of my husband and I when we were first married. How long have you been marriedÉ When they said they were not married she said you seem to belong together or something like that, then he proposed. I think I called him a blithering idiot for that plan, but it worked. Might I suggest you go on the Carousel, with a friend to take a picture and instead of riding the horse, stand beside hers. When it starts moving , kneel down and propose to her. Your friend can get the pics, and you won`t have to really on any cast members or characters.

We were part of a surprise proposal in December and it was magical. Basially we secured a Photopass Photographer that morning.

He proposed in front of the castle. He didn't tell her he was coming to California at all; we all live in Utah. It took a village to pull it off but it was magical. He walked around through the back of the castle, we told her that we wanted a group photo which was no stretch as we'd taken a bazillion pics already, we all turned and there he was, in a suit, strolled through the castle. He got down on one knee. Between our GoPro and the Photopass Photographer, it was fantastci! Was it perfect? No. Was it amazing? Yes! Just like life. Good luck. :)

This is a little different from what you may be looking for, but on my last trip, I saw a man going through the park with a photographer. He had the photographer take pictures of him all over the park, and in each spot he was holding a different sign on which he had written something he loved about her/special memory, and he was going to use the photos as a proposal. It was super romantic and sweet. He had 100 signs, and each location was a favorite of his soon-to-be fiancee.

I saw one when one of the caricature artists in New Orleans Square drew a caricature of the couple and the boyfriend was proposing in the picture. They weren't posing that way obviously so the girlfriend didn't know what was going on until the artist turned the picture around to show them and then her boyfriend dropped to one knee. You would run the risk of how others around would react which could possibly ruin the surprise but I think it sounds fun and makes for a great souvenir.

I saw the most adorable proposal last February when we were there during dapper days. We were in a packed Turtle Talk with Crush (the first time I'd ever done it with my dd) and the couple was all decked out in their dapper fits. They obviously got a little help before hand because Crush chose them to talk to and then asked if they wanted to play a game, they said yes. Crush told them to both close their eyes for the game. While the girl closed her eyes, he opened his and got down on one knee, then crush did a little I spy type thing told them to open their eyes. She accepted and everyone in that place was crying and the kids on the carpet didn't know what the heck was going on. Probably one of my favorite Disney moments ever.

Thank you everybody for all your help! I think I have a better idea of what I'm going to do. I will definitely let you know how it turns out and post up some pictures. If you still have any ideas I am still open to anything just want it to be special and memorable.

Aw good luck with your proposal. I don't have any crazy over the top ideas but I was proposed to at Disney while my husband was going for the wishing well which is such a great place I think. It happened to be closed the day we went! So my husband took me to the otherside and popped the question under the little walk way and It was perfect and at the castle then the photo pass guy went out of his way to take tons of pics all around the castle for us it was amazing And then we had club level at the hotel to go celebrate and they were also so kind to us and made us a desert tray that said congrats! Which was also a great little Disney touch! I guess my only help is you can't go wrong with anything at DL I think!
I also think the beauty and the beast library inside CA would be a great spot.
I've seen the drawing chacter proposal and that is so cute also!
Can't wait to hear about it. I love a good Disney engagement! :)

Why does a proposal have to be a "spectacle"? Getting engaged is an incredibly special moment! I think proposing at the wishing well is a perfect location.
I agree. I also think a proposal is a private moment--I'm always stunned when I see big, splashy, public proposals (mostly in movies).
