Has anyone ever done Disneyland and Walt Disney World in the same trip?

We go to WDW every summer from 10 - 14 nights.

I did a solo trip to Disneyland for three days earlier this year as part of a work trip and now my kids are dying to go - but are hesitant to give up their annual WDW trip.

So I am flirting around the idea of a coast to coast trip since we normally have two weeks to do it in.

Considering flying from Columbus, OH to LAX and getting four-day park hoppers and then flying to WDW for an additional five or six days to get our fix in still.

Any thoughts?

Sounds great!

I live in SoCal so it doesn't count but I have gone to Disneyland on the day before I head out to WDW. What a fun two weeks you'll have.

We did this last year. We are in western Canada and wanted to avoid flying on the eastern seaboard in February. Too many chances of getting our flights cancelled with connecting flights. LAX is direct for us so we popped into DL for a couple of days before we flew to Florida. We stayed in Florida for 2 weeks, so we just went to the parks when we wanted, but that meant no ADR'S or prebooked FP'S.

We did this in 2014 flew to San Diego spent two nights Amtrack to Anaheim 5 days at Disneyland and then 10 nights at Disneyworld then 5 nights in Colorado on the way home. It was great had a fantastic time.

We love it! We have done this twice now and we are all booked and ready to do it again in September next year (we are Australian, so we figure that the extra flight over to MCO and back isn’t too bad).

I have found that the key is to appreciate each park for what it is, and not try to decide if one is better than the other.

A big benefit is that you can catch up on any rides that were closed...for example, HM will more than likely be down while we are at DL in early September (for the Halloween overlay), but by the time we get to WDW it will be fully operational. We have 6 nights at DL for this trip, followed by a 7 night RCCL cruise and then 16 nights in Orlando.

If your kids are a little older and can sleep on planes, try and get a late flight over so they’ll just sleep and the longer flight won’t be such a big deal (or take up too much holiday time). We’ve left LAX around 9:30pm/10:00pm, which lands you in MCO early- about 5:30/6:00am. We’ve either booked our resort room for the previous night so we could check straight in, or you could book a day room at the airport Hyatt to freshen up.

We’ve never felt like it was Disney overload or too overwhelming...I honestly can’t wait to go again!

Recall an article where family hit WDW at rope drop, rode three rides, booked it to airport to catch a plane to CA then went and hit the same three rides in Disneyland all in the same day.

Go big or go home...just sayin!

Strong username to post ratio! That is true a park hopper right there.

This is usually the way we do Disney. Being from Australia we either fly into Dallas then onto Orlando for wdw and or a Disney cruise then home from Lax via Disneyland or the other way around.
We find the trips different as at wdw we stay on property and spent nearly all the time at wdw but at Disneyland we always stay off property and do other things as well as Disneyland. Such as ice hockey, shopping, six flags ect.

We did both as part of a 2 month long cross country RV trip. It was great and no jet lag!

We did Disneyland then Universal Florida.

It was a good trip except the jet lag killed us at Uni. Just couldn’t get up early. But staying deluxe onsite there makes that ok, because you always have express pass.

If doing it again, as west coasters, we would do east coast first and just as we get our bodies onto eastern time we would be heading west and (necessary for DL) early mornings would be easy. :)

We are doing it at the moment. Currently at WDW then heading to DL in a week. Each time we have come to WDW we end our trip with DL.

That is what we are trying to decide. Since we are east coast time - should we do WDW first and then fly to DL and then home from there and have a few days off before heading back to work.

Or start out flying west and then back to east coast time?

You’ll have that easy wake up on the west coast if you start there. I personally am not sure that the early morning is as required at Wdw, though it doesn’t hurt, as it is at DL.

Then you just stay on that early to rise schedule and don’t sleep in, and you won’t hurt too much when you get to Wdw.

That’s my opinion. But my system has always take a LONG time to get up to speed on a new time zone.

Great point!!! That makes a lot of sense.

Do it! But see if you can extend your trip and make it three weeks :) Then get the premiere AP (good for both WDW and DLR). And make another trip in less than a year!
