Disneyland and power troubles on 04/19/03??

We were at Universal Hollywood on Jan. 5, 2003 when they were hit by a power outage that affected the escalators and lower part of the park. People who were on the escalators had to walk back up by the stairway!!

We were told by 2 security guards that its was the 1st time Universal Hollywood had ever been shut down since it opened way back when!! It runs 365 days a year.

We knew it was serious as there were uniformed people running dead out. It completely knocked Jurastic Park water ride and Backdraft out for the rest of the day!!

When was the power problems? We were there in the evening on April 19 and did not notice any rides down or any other problems.

I was there april 19th and did not witness ANY of the so-called problems or angry guests that are mentioned in that article. We never had trouble on any attraction or with any angry guests!

We experienced the "power dip" as Disney called it while on BTMR -- got stuck just as we were about to start up the hill by the goat. Had to wait a while for CMs to come and rescue us. Even after that time had passed, we found several other rides nearby had also evacuated and were not running for a while.

Guest Services explanation was that Anaheim only allows them a certain power draw, and if they exceed that, the city basically trips the circuit breaker, and they have a "power dip." It takes a while to get everything back online, apparently.

The CMs did give us passes to bypass the line later in the day when it was running again.
