We usually go to WDW every year. We decided to do something different this year. We have wanted to do Disneyland for many years but just couldn't go there instead of WDW. We finally bit the bullet. We are going to Las Vegas for a week and then to Anaheim for a week. We have our air flights and hotels already booked. Now, we are thinking about changing things around and go to Anaheim for 4 days, LV for 4 days, and then flying to Orlando and spending 4-5 days at WDW. Just wondering if WDW and DL are so much alike that it would be too much Disney. Anyone who has been to both, what do you think...just go with original plan or put WDW in the mix?

Your location shows SC, is that still right? If so, doing it that direction is fine. You'll be able to get up early for Disneyland early mornings (when you can get a ton done), then start shifting for Vegas, then go to your home timezone.

We're on the pacific timezone and went to Disneyland then Universal Orlando, and the timezone was a huge issue the whole time. If *we* did it again we would start on the east, ignore the mornings and stay up late, then hit Disneyland once we were more on east coast time to get the mornings.

I don't think it would be too much Disney if you like Disney. :)

Yes. SC. Hmmm...didn't even think about the time change coming back. Might need to think a little on that. We go to LV about once a year and also Tucson and getting back on east coast time usually takes a couple of days. You would think I would have thought of that.

Can there every really be to much Disney? There are a lot of overlapping rides between DL/DCA and WDW. However there are a lot of attractions that are similar but not exact, and a trip that close together would make comparing the differences a fun challenge. Also DL/DCA does have enough unique attractions that you will find things to do. Maybe instead of doing WDW you might consider DL Vegas and a Disney Cruise. Depending on your dates there could be a cruise going out of San Diego or Port Canaveral. Do the cruise at the end of the trip, enjoy the slightly slower pace(we didn't actually slow down at all on our first cruise, but people say it's possible)

We generally do trips that include both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. In fact, if I only do one resort in a trip I feel like the vacation is incomplete! Heck, we've even done all Disney resorts in the world in the one trip!!

Personally I don't think a single Disney resort in the world is alike and Disneyland and Walt Disney World aren't particularly comparable. Too much Disney? Depends on how much of a fan you are! If you're a casual fan then probably. If Disney is a lifestyle (and it sounds like it is if you go to WDW yearly) then combining WDW and DL is pure bliss. I'd also chuck in a cruise too for extra happiness :P

I'd take WDW and DL over Vegas any day and spend more time in WDW but I understand why others would want a Disney break. How into Disney are you?

We did it a couple of years ago, by RV. WDW first for a week, then the Smokies, then meandered back west and hit DL for the 24 hr party for the 60th (plus a few days). It was GREAT!

Time difference didn't bother us, but we took a 7 days to get to WDW and 10 days (after the Smokies) to get to DL.

We're tentatively planning to do it again next year.

My dream vacation is to do Disneyland then the Panama Canal cruise and Walt Disney World on the other side! :cloud9: I think it would be amazing to do both in one trip!

Yes, that sounds like a better plan! whenever we visit WDW, we miss things about DL and vis versa.
Plus, I would never want to spend a whole week at LV.

We are close to booking for this year! Have planned to go to WDW for a while, and flights from New Zealand go via Los Angeles, so.....

Looking at 2 days DLR (just a quick trip) then 4 nights New Orleans then 9 nights Orlando, mostly at WDW. it's going to cost A LOT of money :crazy2:

As a couple others hinted at. If it was me, assuming your doing everything as one big trip, I'd start east, then go west, then come home and recover. We're in NC and we've done Vegas and Hawaii for vacations. The 3 hour difference isn't as bad as the 6 hour difference, but I always find the going west part easier. Even if you're not a morning person (which I am), you will be one your first few days on Pacific time. Coming back east to recover has always been hardest for me. It takes a few days before I don't feel like I'm dragging.

We're driving out this year, to do Disneyland. We'll be stopping in Vegas on the way out, then visiting for a few days on the way back. We have fun in Vegas and we're not at all gamblers. Just touring the casinos and enjoying the great food has a Disney feel, only the street performers are a little different and there are guys handing out hooker collector cards. :D Freemont Street is a lot of fun. You will do a TON of walking on the strip, most of the casinos are massive and the walk between them is not trivial.

How fun! I am local to DL and vegas is a 3 1/2 hour drive without traffic. I also love DW! Neither is better and both are a blast. I love to see the differences between the parks but in a fun way, not a which park is better way. Doing the parks in a trip like yours would be so much fun! I do not think it is too much at all :)

That sounds like an amazing trip! Need to add that one to the list. I had honestly never thought about getting between the parks via a Panama Canal Cruise!

Ok. I think we have changed things a bit. We are keeping the original trip...LV for a week and Anaheim for a week with 4 days at DL. Then we will go back home and rest a couple of weeks, then go to WDW for 8 days. For some reason, we just can't let WDW go. When summer comes around we just seem to HAVE to go there. Every year we say that we are going to do something different but when we do, we still have to do WDW. We even say that Disney keeps going up and they are out pricing us...but then we do it anyway. We are 53 years old. When are we going to outgrow Disney?

We have done both in a trip but it was a Stop over at DLR for MHP on our way to WDW

In 2015, DH and I celebrated our 25th anniversary starting in WDW for a week, went on a 14 night Disney Panama Canal cruise and ended with a week in DL. No kids. We had a blast!
