Disneyland 3 Day Park Hopper

What else can I do in California besides go to Disneyland?

We just came back from 2 weeks in California and we could have easily stayed a month! There are so many places to see but if you are specifically going to stay around the Anaheim area there is Universal Studios, Legoland, Hollywood not to mention the beaches. We started in San Francisco and drove down the coast ending in Anaheim with many stops in between. That is an unbelievable drive but you do need some time to do it properly. We stayed several nights in Santa Monica and spent our days on the beach and drove into Hollywood in the evenings to do the sights there...my kids loved that part because we saw several celebrities that they recognized!

Try to catch a show taping. I was able to get tickets to see a taping of 2 1/5 men last year. It was really cool to see. There are a couple places that you can get tickets from online. This is the one I used www.tvtickets.com

We go every summer to SoCal and never seem to get enough. We enjoy these places:

- Laguna Beach (in the summer they have Pageant of the Masters & Festival of the Arts)
- Newport Beach
- Shopping at Newport Fashion Island (Newport Beach)
- Universal Studios
- Legoland (Carlsbad, San Diego)
- Moonlight Beach (Encinitas, San Diego)
- Old Town (San Diego)
- Seaworld (San Diego)
- Coronado Beach (San Diego)
- Balboa Park (San Diego)
- Shopping at Carlsbad Premium Outlets (Carlsbad, San Diego)
- Birch Aquarium at Scripps (La Jolla, San Diego)
- Torrey Pines State Park (San Diego)
- Golf at the Torrey Pines course (San Diego)

At the beach, try surfing, body surfing, or boogie boarding. Remember to bring a rash guard. In Old Town, have some great Mexican food. Shopping is great at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets. Taste some fish tacos at Rubio's. Tour the Hotel Del in Coronado. There's so much to do!

We were there in June and drove to Hollywood from Anaheim - it only took about 45 minutes mid-morning and we were back in Anaheim to go back to Disneyland by mid-afternoon. We parked at the Hollywood and Highland mall and saw the Walk of Fame, viewed the Hollywood sign (far off in the distance) and saw the Kodak Theatre and Graumann's Chinese Theatre. Very cool!

Whatever you do, skip knotts berry farm - its a dirty hole that should be shut down! Its just terrible there. But they DO have a nice waterpark that is fairly new and lots of fun.

Despite what the pp has said, my kids absolutely loved Knotts Berry Farms when we went two years ago. I found it was great for younger kids...older ones might be bored.

Are you travelling with children, and if so, what are there ages?

My DDs loved Legoland, but it really is for the under-9. We drove down to San Diego, and they played by the beach, visited Seaworld, and did the zoo.

If we return when they are older (above 12), I would do the Hollywood tour and Universal ... and explore the natural attractions of California. The state was so beautiful.

You can save some money on attractions if you buy the Southern California Citypass which gives admission to Universal, 3 day DL Parkhopper, SeaWorld and one of San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal Park.

I felt that way too but the rest of my family didn't.
