Disneyland 1 day vs 2 day ticket price

My nephew, his wife and son were not able to make it to Florida where we had a family 8 day stay at Disneyworld. I've managed to get them 3 nights in a one bedroom at the Grand CA in January. I was going to get him some tickets. Can anyone explain why the cost of (2) 1 day tickets (one park per day) is a lot less than the cost of a 2-day ticket, again one park. per day. This is the same on Disney's site or from Undercover tourist. Why wouldn't everyone just buy 2 1-day tickets?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for room requests. I've never been there.

Excellent question. I've been scoping this out for a trip in February for Disneyland. Best I can tell it comes down to buying a park hopper pass for multiple days (or not). I think if you're ok having multi tickets and not park hopping its a cheaper route to go for 1 vs 2 day tickets. If staying 5 or so more days then maybe not.

Curios to see what others think.

Dates of the trip, really. It's not as if Disney adds the price of the first day of the trip to the last day of the trip. They take the highest priced ticket and do some weird number magic...

I don't see where 2 1-day tickets are cheaper.
For example, January 6-7: $289 for a 2 day ticket, one park. January 6: $179, January 7: $169 - Total: $348

Usually it’s not cheaper to buy 2 1 day tickets. But unlike Disney World, which changes single and multi day ticket prices based on time of year, Disneyland has the same multi day ticket prices year round, but still prices single day prices based on projected demand. So on the cheapest Disneyland days, single day tickets are cheaper.

And then just a FYI, the cheapest site for multi day Disneyland tickets is usually aRes Travel, UT is cheaper for WDW.

I'm going to also say it's likely due to the "value" of the added charge for park hopping being spread out between more days and park hopping is way better at Disneyland vs WDW.

Contrasting this with Disneyland Hong Kong that we were fortunate enough to visit, the 2nd day ticket at the time was 50% less from the one day. Different market I know.

Ok this now makes sense. If I purchase a two-day ticket I select the first day. The second day can then be used any day up to 13 days, where some of the days (like weekends) would cost more than a weekday. Thanks.

Disneyland uses a tiered pricing system for their tickets if you’re buying one-day tickets - the price of each day depends on when you are going to go. For example, the lowest price tickets are $104 in September, but the lowest price tickets in October are $159. So the answer is that sometimes it’s cheaper to buy two 1-day tickets and sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a 2-fay ticket.

January 8 is not $104 - it’s $179. January 9 is not $104 - it’s $169.

Show me a single example of dates where two 1 days are cheaper

EDIT: I found one Jan 11-12. Those days are $104 each. And more expensive for 2 days, as long as they are for only 1 park. So they do exist, but are rare.

As someone pointed out (and I will restate), if you are getting a PH on the tickets, it will be an additional $65 for EACH one- day ticket (total additional cost: $130) or $60 for the entire length of any multi-day ticket.

We almost never do a PH at WDW due to the amount of time it takes to hop. But at DLR, the parks are directly across an esplanade, so it is about a 2 minute walk from the front gates of DL to the front gates of DCA. The value of a hopper is MUCH better at DLR, and we never go to DLR without a hopper.

The 4 day validity thing with 2 day tickets is a WDW thing. All multi day tickets (unless otherwise stated) at DLR are valid for 13 days after first use.

Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend in January is 1/11-1/14 actually. The actual half marathon will be run on 1/14. Yoga and first day of the race expo on 1/11, 5k on 1/12, and 10k on 1/13. There's no Star Wars half marathon anymore on either coast currently. This is the September race weekend moved into the January slot that used to be the Star Wars Light Side Half Marathon Weekend (and prior to 2015 was the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend).

Crazy enough it matters since it can change who comes out for it. But also this is the first race back since November 2017 so it could be a little crazy.

The weekend before is the WDW Marathon Weekend so it's not actually so crazy runners won't be in yet. A lot of runners wait until after the races to save their legs. Especially anyone just coming off of the WDW Marathon Weekend races. I'm actually not surprised those days are cheaper.
