Disneyfied! Two sisters return to WDW after 21 years. [micro mini update 11/30 p. 14]

your pictures are gorgeous.

great update.

You posted some wonderful photos, the colours are just great. :thumbsup2

your pictures are gorgeous.

great update.

Thanks, you two! I was frustrated with my little point & shoot, so I appreciate you saying that!

Great update! Sounds like your trip is off to a great start!

I had a difficult time writing about this first night because we were both running on just a couple hours of sleep. We had a great time, but it was hard to remember what exactly we did!

You're making me drool! :rotfl: What a beautiful shot! I can see why you want to go back!!

Thanks! It was hard to take a bad picture from that spot.

I have to say, I had never noticed the ASSports abreviation until you mentioned it, now I'm seeing it constantly :lmao:

Here's a link to one in a title http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=27550193#post27550193

Funny! Of course now that one's been edited too. However, if you google for it, you'll find a few threads.

O.k., you made my DH say "wow that's a good picture". He normally doesn't respond to a lot when I'm DISing. (I'm a little obsessed) I think you could take that picture and make it into a postcard. I almost started crying because I REALLY want to be there sometime this year, but it aint happen'. Can't wait to hear what happens next.

Thank you! I hope you make it to WDW sometime this year. You never know what can happen! When July started, I certainly didn't expect that I'd be in Walt Disney World in August.

I'd hoped I could get an update posted last night, but instead I had my brother over and we drank adult beverages and watched Disney's Robin Hood. We had fun making Ayn Rand jokes whenever they started talking about taxes.

My brother remembered this film as his favorite, but neither of us had seen it since we were kids. It was amusing even though it doesn't rank at the very top of the Disney classics for me. Of course my innocent childhood memories are now tainted by my brother telling me how this movie is very popular with the "Furries". I'm scarred. Don't google it, you don't want to know! :scared1:

Hopefully I will recover from the trauma and can get back to my trip report soon. Have a nice rest of the weekend!

 I'm so glad I found this TR!! I followed the link in your Siggie from Michelle's TR.

I have a little sister that I am very close with, too. We actually live 2 houses away from each other and LOVE it!

I am trying desperately to take a 'sisters-only' trip during the summer of 09. I can't wait to send her a link to your TR to let her start thinking about how awesome it will be!! She really wants to go, but is struggling with feelings of guilt about leaving her little girl (who just turned 1 in July). I have two kids of my own and never feel guilty about leaving them. One, because we take them to WDW once a year and two, because a happy mom=happy kids and Disney makes me happy, right?!

Anyway.. happy to join in on this dream trip report! Thanks for sharing!

I don't think we'll make it this year, but it would've been nice. Robin Hood is one of my favorites! I love the little rabbit when he tells the turtle to put his hand over his heart and cross his eyes!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks for reading! My sister and I had a great time together on our trip. We were reminiscing about it this afternoon and are hoping to do it again next year. I hope you can talk yours into it! It's good for caregivers to do things for themselves once in awhile!

That's too bad you aren't going to make it this year, but I see you have a ticker in your sig. You must be having fun planning your next trip! The little rabbits and other creatures were all adorable. I had forgotten what a cute movie it was, and the Prince John character is hilarious!

Magic Kingdom

We had stayed up rather late our first night, but after a restful slumber on the aptly named Heavenly Beds, we were up early and ready for the parks! Our itinerary for this day put us at Magic Kingdom. It seemed counterintuitive to me that Magic Kingdom could be a “best park” on a weekend, but I relied on the expertise from the folks at the Unofficial Guide.

I dawdled a bit with a cup of coffee on the balcony and then we had a good-natured sisterly skirmish about who would get to hoard the toiletries. They were made me with one of my sister's favorite scents – Coconut Lime Verbena, so I gave in. It was a rather pointless negotiation because housekeeping restocked our room each day.

I had a fashion dilemma that morning. I usually wear skirts, but had read a thread here on the Disboards that warned that there might be a little Britney Spears-ish action if one were to attempt to get into a Space Mountain rocket whilst in a skirt. This scared me into buying a pair of shorts for the trip. I felt really awkward in them, but eventually decided that comfort would win over fashion and we were on our way. Somehow we still left our room in time to catch a bus that would get us there in time for rope drop.

The bus made a couple of stops and then we were there! After bag check, we took a few ridiculously bad photos of ourselves in front of the train station and the Mickey floral, and then asked a Photopass photographer to give it a try. They were all spectacularly unflattering, so we’ll pretend those shots don’t even exist.

We entertained ourselves by observing the crabby children and sullen teens. It seemed like there were quite a few parents who were way more excited than their kids about the welcome show. Soon we heard some relentlessly cheerful music and the show began! I got a little misty eyed when I heard the Disney announcer’s voice welcoming us to the Magic Kingdom. The opening song was a little cheesy, but the silliness and earnestness won out and we enjoyed ourselves. It was a perfect welcome to the park!

Here are a couple of little video snippets. They aren’t very good quality, but, they’ll give you a taste of the show. Click on the links below to go to a video player page.

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, welcome to the Magic Kingdom!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!

As soon as the family of the day threw their pixie dust and the show was over, we (and the rest of the herd) entered the tunnels and started walking down Main Street.

Next up, Space Mountain, Fantasyland, and some bizarre entertainment in the Columbia Harbour House restroom.

great pics again.

I have never seen rope drop. I have always been there early for breakfast and in the park before 8. Maybe next time.

LOVE The video snippets. Thanks so much for sharing.

Funny about the sullen teens. I'm sure that's not easy dragging a teen out of bed that early on a VACATION!!

Loving the trip report!!!!! Makes me want a sister. I'm only blessed with a brother who I have nothing in common with. Oh well. My husband and I are planning on a 25th anniversary trip next year w/o kids!!!!! Thanks for sharing your vacation with all of us. By the way, what kind of camera are you using? Your photos are great!!!!! Thanks!

Lynn

I'm laughing at the hoarded toiletries.
