Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

I was wondering if anyone has the time to answer a couple of questions I have.

1. So if I sign one of my children up for a class on a day that individual enrollment is allowed I can buy park tickets for me my husband and my other son who is too young to participate?

2. is the art of animation class held at Hollywood Studios?

For some reason this whole thing kind of just seems too good to be true and want to make sure that I am understanding the individual YES program correctly.

THANKS

My DD(16) took the Art of Animation class. Yes, it was at Hollywood Studio. She did enjoy the class. She would do another class based on her experience in this class.:goodvibes

I was wondering how far in advance they let you know if there aren't enough students signednup for your class. Do they let you know in advance or not until you get there? Thanks.

When have August classes been announced in the past?

We're planning a mid-late August trip. If free dining is offered for our dates, we are planning to get a package and stay at POR. If it's not offered I would really like to have the kids take a class and perhaps stay at the Dolphin with a nurse discount.

An additional question... can you take one of the classes if you don't purchase the YES park tickets? I thought I remembered reading if you had APs you could pay around $26 to attend a class, but I wasn't sure if this was an option if you have purchased tickets as part of your resort package.
I can't say with 100% certainty but I am pretty sure I booked for our August trip in February last year. If you go back to February in this thread you'll see where everyone starts talking about booking the new classes.

When is August did you go? I am hoping for an early August trip with the YES program. Thanks!

Yes, on the sign-up sheet, you list every family member as either student or adult, with their names and ages. Then you get a second page that asks you to check who will be attending the class. You can get tickets for your whole family not just the class attendees.

My DD took the animation class. A lot was nice, but the last hour was going through One Man's Dream and answering some questions. I would have liked a little more inside info. But they also learned a lot about techniques, storyboarding, even spoke to an animator working in the gift shop. It was really nice overall and I'd recommend it.

We are too.

A few months ago, Disney accidentally posted dates for this summer's YES programs. They were only up for a few hours.. I got a good look at them. There were several options that would have been a good fit for my family. The next time I went to look, they had been removed from the list.

We're going August 1-Aug 8, and I KNOW there were classes available.

Of course, I'm assuming they removed the info so that they could make changes, but I'm optimistic about finding a class.

Thank you for all of the replies! My daughter and I are now booked in the Animation class in February. I am soo excited for a new experience at Disney World and very happy we were able to get such a discount on tickets for my entire family! This board is great!

Thanks for the info.

That's before free dining would likely be announced.

Do you have to buy the tickets for your whole family when you sign up for the class? Or can you sign your child(ren) up for a class and then decide later to purchase the YES park tickets?

Not sure about that, but I know you have to sign up before classes are full. I would assume everything should be done at the same time.

That's what I'm stressed about.

If free dining is offered for our dates, we would need to purchase park tickets with the package. But I can't really wait until April when free dining would likely be announced to sign the kids up for classes because they may be full by then. :headache:

They will amost certainly be full by then. The class we took was full by the beginning of March and individual enrollment is much more out there now. You can always get the lowest ticket that comes with free dining and save them for another trip, if free dining is available.

Does anyone know if you can pick up your YES tickets at your resort? We fly in lateish the night before our scheduled class which begins at 7:45 the next morning and i am concerned I will have time to pick up the tickets at the park, or that the ticket window will not yet be open that early in the morning?

We could not last year when we went in June. You have to pick them up at a park. We picked ours up at MK.

Some people have also picked up their tickets at guest relations at DTD. That area may be open later than the park ones, depending on the time of year. Guest relations at the parks should be open until the park closes.

Do these tickets expire? If we purchase an 8 day and only use 7, could we use the 8th day next year?

We decided at the last min to go this year and purchased our YES tickets at the end of May for June 20th.
