Disney Y.E.S. Program

Thanks for all the reviews! We're signed up for Art of Animation on the 14th. DS1 can't wait (and I can't either!) Seems like it can go either way as far as kids being interested or bored. I hope we find it fun!

Email confirmation of our September 19 class -- Ocean Discoveries -- just arrived! :cool1:

I just got our confirmation for Sept 18 WBN  Can't believe how close this is now!

Yay! I know, the time is flying right by!

I also notice that in my excitement I misspelled Discoveries, LOL. :upsidedow

So glad I found this!! will be taking my husband's granddaughter next Oct. Spoke to her dad about it and he's thrilled (especially since they will be taking her out of school for over a week) He's all for it seeing how they will get discounted tickets. Loved the YES programs when I chaparoned my kids back when they were in middle school.

We will cancel our reservations for the 10/9 Wild by Nature class for 3 people tomorrow. A very informative cast member (not sure if they are actually cast members since it it through a third party) let us know that they would charge an 8% fee but that we could recoup most of our money.

I booked in February and our plans have changed drastically. Only my husband and I are heading to Florida. This was to be a family vacation/attending my nephew's wedding. One kiddo started college and can't miss, another is now an electrician in the apprenticeship program and can not take off. Add to it, I now have a granddaughter due early November so my other son and his fiance aren't going.

The younger two that were actually signed up for the class...You guessed it, my 13 year old step son now has basketball tryouts the week we are gone and my 13 year old daughter leaves next week to train with a former Olympic rider in Northern Michigan. She has several horse shows lined up for the remainder of the year and two correspond with the time that we are scheduled to be in Disney. We left the decision to her and as hard as it was, she opted to stay back and attend the shows with her trainer.

So all the $$ that we saved for 3 tickets will go towards 1 ticket for my hubby. I am appreciative that we were allowed to receive a refund and they were most appreciative that I didn't grab other kids to pass off as ours and that we wanted to give someone else the opportunity to take part in this wonderful experience.

We just got ours for this class too...makes it seem so real since we dont get Mickey Mail...WAHOO

Yay! We don't get Mickey Mail either, so just getting *something* that says Disney knows we're coming will be a treat!

My 10 yr old daughter and I are in that class as well! See you there!

Yay! How funny that there are three of us on this thread in that class :rotfl: We are still undecided which of us is going with them but either way, our two girls are 12 and 10 and they are so excited.

We didn't get fancy nametags for Energy and Waves- just stick on ones.

Are you going to be writing about your trip? I'd love to hear what you thought of the class.

I'm not sure yet if I will do a trip report but I can write a review of our class on here as there are probably others interested.

My DS13 took the Energy and Waves class at MK on Mon. 8/20. The class met inside the turnstiles at 9 am. We caught the bus from CSR shortly after 8 am, arrived and got through bag check by 8:25 am. So we had plently of time to spare. The crowd had already built up inside the gate for rope drop and my DS didn't want to stand in the crowd. So we sat on a bench outside the turnstiles to wait. By the time the crowd had cleared out it was about 9 am so it didn't give us much time to find the group. I think if the start time was earlier or later (or met in a different spot) would have worked better to avoid the initial rope drop crowd.

After checking in we were divided into about 3 groups, I think. There were also a few groups of younger kids. The facilitator for our group was Todd. I won't go into all the details of the class but it included 3 attractions: Stitch's Great Escape, The Haunted Mansion and Mickey's Philharmagic....in that order. Before each attraction the group discussed things related to energy and sound waves and did a couple little experiments. I think that part was a little boring for the kids, though they did seem to like an experiment they did with a tuning fork.

**SPOILER ALERT**

The Haunted Mansion part was the best part of the class. First they went on the ride then after there is a "surprise" where they go behind the scenes. This was very cool:cool1: and you get to see how some of the special effects are done and we also saw some of Fantasyland expansion construction. :thumbsup2 Todd (the facilitator) use to be a training supervisor at the HM and had so many interesting facts about the HM (at least interesting to me)::yes::.

All in all we enjoyed the class. I think it did seemed a little long and appeared the kids were losing interested after the HM part. I know my DS and I were getting hot and hungry...glad we brought along water bottles. Also I didn't always see the connections between the discussions/experiements and the attractions. I do have to say that I thought Todd was excellent and very informative and enthusiastic. He tried to include all the kids and encouraged my DS and a couple of other kids that weren't as eager to participate.

My DS couldn't help but compare this class to the Animation Magic class that he took last Oct. Keeping in mind that Animation is a big interest of his and already has a lot of knowledge about it, he found that class a little boring (also he didn't feel well and ended up at urgent care later that night with strep throat ). He did however like the drawing (Sorcerer Mickey) part. He says he would rate the Animation Magic a 5 out of 10 and Energy and Waves a 7. ;)

How long do the classes last?

I am anxious to see what they have for Jan/Feb! :cool1:

Where does the Wild by Nature class end? We have a 12 lunch at Yak & Yeti. I'm sure it won't be a problem if we are a little late but I'm really hoping we don't have to hike from the front of the park or something!
