We just booked a trip with my husband's family for Christmas and two weeks later we found out that we are expecting a baby in October. We live in Seattle and we make annual trips to Disney World since we are DVC members. Has anyone taken their 2 month old to Disney World? Does this sound crazy? We go often enough that I don't mind going at a very slow pace. I am worried about being tired and about possibly spending all my time feeding/changing the baby so I am not sure if that will take some of the fun out of it? We really love Disney and I really want to go but is this taking on too much? Any opinions? Thoughts? Any advice is appreciated.:lovestruc

That is a very young baby in flu and RVS season. if you already have a pediatric doctor i would talk with him. our doctor would have said not to go.

Congratulations! Just think of all the cute little Mickey (or Minnie) clothes you're going to buy! ;)

While going with a 2 mo old probably wouldn't be your first choice, it sounds like you'll have lots of family help. Baby is going to sleep thru the whole thing, so let the relatives take turns on cuddle duty. Enjoy yourself, but take it easy.

We will definitely check with our doctors before going. I wouldn't go if baby wasn't healthy. We will have to wait and see on that. I am super excited to go but I think we will try to hold off a few months before deciding. We love to travel so we might as well get an early start is what I am thinking. My husband is already dreaming of all the baby clothes we can get at DW. :cool1:

We actually took our 7 week old to Disney World in June of '05 and we had a super time. My daughters were then 7 and 5 and we found out we were expecting our son right after we had begun planning our trip. Since our girls were such good ages for Disney we decided to go ahead with our plans. We theorized that a fairly new baby would probably be much easier to bring than a one year old, and we were right; no food or toys to tote, lots of dark rides and theatres to nurse in, not to mention baby care stations. I can give you lots more planning trips if you're interested, but know that if you remain flexible and plan well, you'll have a great time. Good luck!

I also think this would be a good time to go. You could sling the baby and he/she will probably just sleep right through most of it. I know when my babies were that age, they just slept through most commotion b/c we are always on the go.
Much easier than a toddler that is walking or almost walking and wants to be put down all the time. And if you are nursing, you won't need any bottles or food.

First of all CONGRATS! I'm due in Oct as well! Second at that age all they do is eat poop and sleep, MUCH easier than say a 2 yr old.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I think it's really great that they have Baby Care centers. My husband and I have always just walked by them in the past and had no clue what they were for. Now I have a feeling we are going to become rather familiar with them.

Congrats Helene! That is very exciting news. I know we are excited but a little nervous about being first time parents. Should be exicting. Woohoo

I agree with PP. We first took on son when he was 5 months old and it was by far the easiest trip with him.

Congrats & Good Luck!!

Congratulations!!!! I travelled with my youngest when she was about 8 weeks old..it was great..but i was used to travelling with children (we started going 2x a year when my 1st DD was 8 month old).
I would definitely check with your pediatrician, take is slow and have a great time...a nice microfleece sling would be awesome at that time of year..keep that babe nice and close and warm!!! goo-ga.com has great MF slings!
You will get awesome character pics too..they LOVE babies!!!

I would hesitate to take a 2 month old out to a crowded place in Cootie Season. I also know I would not have been happy slogging around Disney 8 weeks post-partum, but everyone is different.

As a mom of four children under ten, I have taken the attitude that as long as my children are cared for, it doesn't matter where I am. The way my kids are reflects this attitude. We have always been able to take them anywhere and they would be good. Remember to drink lots if you are nursing - if not nursing - keep formula at correct temperature. Lightweight blanket to cover the stroller so baby is shaded - sunblock - hat (with strap) so it stays on - even sunglasses but mostly just a lightweight blanket to keep baby shaded - and don't do uncomfortable itchy clothes - just keep it basic with a onesie or tee shirt and diaper. The idea is to be comfy. If you want a nice outfit for photos, just change the baby afterward. Don't let this stop you from this trip - you don't know how much longer you will have these loved ones in your life and you should enjoy this time with them while you can. Good luck :)

We faced this same situation last year. We were going to go in Sept our kids would have been 7 and almost 5 but after three years of hoping and trying for one more baby we found out I was pregnant:yay: and due the beginning of Sept. Our trip was cancelled. If your pediatrician okays it they would know! We did have to take a trip once for a wedding when my daughter was five weeks old. She slept the whole time- very easy to travel with. When we got off of the plane people around us were shocked that they had been sitting by a baby.

Plan for it, but be prepared if you end up canceling. Each baby is different and if yours is a particularly bad sleeper or colicky or whatever, you could be quite miserable far from home. Some babies travel super well (I am lucky to have had two of those) and others not so well (I had one of those as well). You just gotta see what you get.

Great news on the baby!

Congratulations! I would say you'd have to wait and see what happens in October. Every birth and every baby is different. You may feel great after birth or it could take some time to feel like your ol' self again. Some babies get on a feeding and sleeping schedule quickly others take time. I totally agree with many of the posts that you should check with your Drs first (OBGYN and Peditircian) and you can't do that until after the baby is born.

Staying at a DVC resort (especially if it's a 1 or 2-bedroom villa) will make life easier for you and baby. There may be times when you will want or need to stay in your villa while others go to the parks. It's so hard to say. I'm sure there are many people who had good experiecnes taking such a young baby to DW and others who didn't.

If you can be flexible and wait until after the baby is born before you make the final decision that would be great. Good Luck...
