Disney World removes gators from shows and rides

And I was thinking this was a thread about keeping gators out of Splash Mountain and Tom Sawyer Island...

I can understand the jokes on the rides but I really don't understand the other things...I think its total over kill. I mean Peter Pan is a CLASSIC, what are they going to do next? Ban all sales of Peter Pan things bc it might remind people of an Alligator? And Louis the trumpet playing Alligator/Croc is AWESOME in the Princess in the Frog...it would of been so cool to see him in the new stage show! I think its 1 this to be more conscious of the actual FL wildlife but its another thing to start banning and removing anything in the parks that are related to alligators/crocs...its total over kill.

Changing a couple of scripts on JC and KS is fine. But the rest of it is ridiculous. Catering to the over reactors who go into hysterics at the drop of a hat. And some are taking it to extremes - wanting the statuary removed from the POFQ pool area (because cartoony jazz playing gators are just So realistic) :rolleyes2 I also saw someone calling for the renaming if Alligator Bayou. Puhleeeez. People need to get a grip.

Where in the article does it say that?

The lead says 'changes to decades old rides' but never says anything more than changes to parades, a show, and a couple ride scripts.

What am I missing?

I would like to know how the parents feel about the removal? I understand the ride jokes, especially at WDW, but to remove the parade float? And to ban them from the new show days before its open? And what about at dl where there are NO alligators or crocodiles? I mean removing the crocodile from Mickeys magical map show? No I did not read that in any online article but I know the ride joke was removed world wide. So what is the point where it's just a little too much?

Personally, if they start to remove alligator/croc animatronic figures from rides like Pan, Small World, Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise, etc. I would consider that over-kill.

The rest doesn't bother me.

They did remove the actual crocodiles from jungle cruise. I may stage a protest if they get removed from Peter Pan, splash mountain, and small world (at least the dl version of small world).

Or I should say the fake crocodiles were removed.

Okay so quick check of sources:

Daily Mail -- never reliable. Treat it like the National Enquirer
@DisneyConnect twitter linked to a college student/Disney fast food worker blog -- Not exactly an official source. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's sharing what he knows to be true. But he gives no sources for his information, so its suspect.
@JeffDePaoli -- Another Twitter account. He's a podcaster and entertainment reporter. That is, he depends on clicks and unsubstantiated rumors being repeated in news outlets for his career. That doesn't mean he;s making it up, exactly, but he has an interest in stirring up conversation. He also lists no sources, and has exactly one snarky comment about it which may just be a joke for fun
The Hollywood Reporter -- links back to @DisneyConnect as their first source, which itself has no sources.
-- also doesn't say that Disney has decided to take down alligators or crocodiles. The only things they say about crocodiles on rides are "Given the tragic nature of the child's death, it remains highly unlikely the crocodile gag will ever return to the attraction script" with no mention given of when it disappeared in the first place. I assume it refers to the 2015 overhaul mentioned in the article.
-- They also say that someone didn't see Tick Tock on the float, but they didn't say who said that or if they are at all reliable about it. Eyewitness accounts rarely are, so without video, its safe to throw it out as well. Various guests at various times report not seeing various floats due to all kinds of reason including cast member illness or obscured vision or whatever.
-- They also link to the Orlando Sentinel which quotes a guest, and then asserts with no evidence that Disney will change all the rides.

I also did some searches, and similar articles and assertions about Disney taking away crocs/alligators have popped up after every single attack. None were ever true.

And the last thing to remember: All entertainment blogs and reporting make their money on clicks and shares. Getting people outraged about an unsubstantiated rumor about Disney is an extremely easy way to do that. Until some actually OFFICIAL source says this for sure, don't believe everything you read.

I can understand their removing the jokes from the rides -- right now they don't seem very funny. Not so sure about the topiary and the trumpet-playing croc. Those seem pretty harmless to me.

So after the West Virginia flooding, are they going to remove the "backside of water" joke too? You know, It might offend somebody! :confused3
