Hello all, first trip to Florida, and wanted to check out these 3 places. Arriving the night of Wed 5/4 and leaving on Tue 5/10

Ideally, we want 4 days at the Disney Parks (1 day in each), a day at Harry Potter, and a day at the Kennedy Space Center.

How does this itinerary sound? If time permits, maybe sometime in downtown Orlando just to check it out. However, it may be too much to do in just under a week, so we may have to cut the Kennedy Space Center.

Any advice on where to stay as well? On-site vs. Off-site? How is the Hilton at Downtown Disney? Shuttles every 30 min, right? Or the Royal Plaza hotel deal right now from bookit.com for $89 a night?

We want to get the most out of our trip, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know how many are in your traveling party, but have you considered checking out the prices of the Disney "value" resorts? They may be in the same price range as the hotels you've listed, and you will be able to utilize the extra magic hour benefit (Hilton also gets this benefit but Royal Plaza does not). Those extra hours can give you more time to see everything you'd like.
There is also a benefit to staying on-site at Universal as well, because you'll get a 1 hour early entry to the WW of Harry Potter, and you'll get front of the line benefits - although the cheapest price I've found for those hotels is in the mid $200's, but may be worth the money in terms of time saved. (We are going this summer, and split our stay between Disney and the Hard Rock)
I agree that you don't have time for Kennedy.
BTW - LOVE your name! :)

You can't do Kennedy Space Center. Figure out what you want to do first...Universal or Disney. Book Royal Pacific for one night at Universal so you can have two days there with Front of the Line....then book at Disney at a value....you don't want to rely on offsite buses with so few days....at both parks time is money when you look at the cost of park tickets.

I would do US and WDW and forget about Kennedy Space Center. Kennedy Space Center is alright and can be skip.

I love Harry Potter. IA is very well done.

If was US I would stay offsite with a free breakfast to save money. Than again I got three kids now and I try find a bargin every where. LOL

I think your plan sound good if leave out Kennedy Space Center.

I would check tripadvsior.com for reviews on the Royal Plaza Hotel.

I would do either Universial/Kennedy or just Disney. Trying to combine all these into such a short vacation will be very rushed, very expensive and you will be too exhausted to really enjoy yourself.

If you pick disney, I would suggest staying onsite unless you have a large family, expecially since this is your first trip.

Staying at the universial hotels is also great advice if you go that route and it is in your budget.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

After some deep thinking haha, we've decided to skip the Kennedy Space Center and focus on WDW, and stay on-site! Doing all these might've been too ambitious for a first time, and probably better for a second time.

We were looking at the Disney hotels and are currently leaning towards the Pop Century for its value.

However, we might still try to sneak in Universal for just 1 day, but definitely this will be a WDW focused trip.

You've all been soooooooo helpful THANK YOU THANK YOU!! :thumbsup2

IMO you are making a mistake skipping KSC if either of you are interested in the history of space and how this planet got to where it is today. I was a reluctant traveler to KSC but my guys wanted to go and I tagged along. It was a revelation and I really enjoyed our time there. I don't see a problem with your initial itinerary either just as long as you know you'll be very busy and have little down time.

I think you've gotten some great advice. Many people, because multiday tickets save a few $ (e.g. fourth day at Disney is practically free), etc. often will focus on Disney exclusively, Universal almost exclusively, the Seaworld family of parks exclusively on different trips. In reality, though, everything is close enough and you can do whatever you want (mix it up -- but you will pay more). We usually mix it up. There is so much to do in Orlando, though, that you will need to pick and choose activities and won't get to hit everything. This is just a great excuse to come again, though, in my opinion. I do love Orlando -- such a great place to have fun with your kids.

People too who don't want to do much driving will often stay onsite at Disney, especially if they are doing mostly Disney parks, as this makes it very easy. They will pick you up at the airport, take you back, and have a great transportation system for getting around. This is in their best interest too, as this is where you'll spend most of your vacation $s. And they have resorts for almost every budget. The resorts are really pretty nice too. The Downtown Disney hotels offer the next best transportation to Disney parks with shuttles every 30 minutes to all the different parks. Universal onsite hotels are on the more expensive side, but many people will even do split stays and stay here for the front of line perk that is available for rides except for WWHP even if they are only going for one day. Universal hotels also offer early entrance to the WWHP area.

Another popular option is renting an offsite condo or home. This is great for families who want more space, a kitchen, laundrey, and for large groups especially is by far the most economical option. Typically a car is necessary with this. For a short trip, I think a hotel is fine, but I really like this option for longer trips.

You have six things listed (all which are full day activities) and five days, so just pick one thing to drop. Given your emphasis on Disney (We love Disney) onsite or downtown Disney accomodations sound like a great choice. I'd be inclined to keep your four Disney days too, as your fourth day is practically free. If you want to do both a day IOA and Kennedy, though, you could decide to skip one of the Disney parks. I wouldn't try to see two in one day if this is your first visit. Each once has a lot to offer/do. If you go to Kennedy, the most economical and most flexible choice would be to rent a car for the day or are you planning on renting a car for your whole trip? If you already are planning on having one you are all set. You can rent a car for a day or two right Disney property. There are some transportation deals I've sometimes seen posted between Disney and Universal/IOA that many people use who are mostly focusing on Disney, but don't want to pass up seeing WWHP// there was one where I think transporation and tickets were included together, posted just a few days ago. Driving over is definately an option too.

Have a great time / whatever you choose.

We are doing a five day trip too, in two weeks // staying at an offsite condo with a large group and have a car:
Our picks this time are:
Sea World Day 1
MK Day 2
Kennedy Space Cener Day 3
Disney Hollywood Studios Day 4
Sea World Day 5 (Our favorite park and we have season passes)

Oh and if you are thinking Downtown Disney, you might want to check out the link on post #113 on the Holiday Inn Friends and Family offer that Shelby Jones lets disers use. The Downtown Disney Holiday Inn has been recently remodeled and gets great reviews. Take a peak on trip advisor. I know I 'm thinking of staying there on my next mini trip in 2012. I used Shelby's discount to visit family in NJ last summer / best rate I ever got for the Crown Plaza there, and I've been doing annual trips out there for more than 20 years. I agree that you're trying to do too much. You are gonna' want to stay at Disney for much longer, i currently have a Universal/Disney split stay for my may trip, with 8 nights at Disney and still wish I could somehow squeeze a few more in.

Two days was not enough for us to do Kennedy Space Center last summer and it was just us two adults.
