Disney World and the heat

Any other tips for traveling w a 5mo? Packing must-haves for baby? We’re planning Labor Day Weekend which we know from experience is oppressively hot and I’m worried about keeping my baby from overheating to the point of illness.
We are planning to be there the week after you and I’m also worried about the heat.

I would bring a couple rechargeable stroller fans so if one dies you have a back up. We have this one and used it a lot last summer.

I would also make sure to do thin, light colored clothing and watch that they’re breathable materials. I’ve noticed a lot of the super cute Disney stuff is polyester, which is a bit of a bummer. If we were going at that age I would probably go with a lot of rompers, my baby lived in those last summer.
If you can I would try to bring some frozen teethers in a cooler too. Could help with keeping cool since they aren’t really at the age for water yet. My little girl loved holding onto things at that age so you could also let them hold your water bottles if they’re cool.

Also, don’t forget to make sure they have sunscreen on any part that may get in the sun. Our doctor said that even though they generally don’t want you using sunscreen yet, it’s safer than getting a burn. I would ask yours if the have a type they recommend.

Oh, and you probably know this but don’t cover the stroller with a blanket/rain cover. I’ve seen people do this and it’s so dangerous.

Thank you so much for the advice! That tip about breathable materials is clutch (and also explains why *I* was sweating lol).

take breaks. besides the meal time, duck into a counter service that has ac, get some drinks and ice water. hydrate everyone before moving on. The heat makes you exhausted and you’ll know you’ve recovered when the kids aren’t as cranky.

don’t get cupcakes, get pickles.

tour in the early morning, and late aftn/evening. If you’re in the park during the day, thats when you do American adventure, Muppets and philharmagic etc.

we have misting fans and cooling towels. We’ll bring them, but quite frankly, they’re a PITA as someone (me) ends up carrying them when they (the kids) don’t want to anymore.

bring hats with brims. Baseball caps do nothing for your neck. Put the cooling towel under your hat.
