Disney Workers Push Back on Park Reopening Plans as Covid Cases Rise

It's a legitimate concern. Things are quickly getting crazy in Florida right now and Orange County in particular is starting to look very worrisome. However, it's a bit silly for unionized workers to be flinging an online petition around. That's what your union is for. I'd be surprised if Disney isn't in close contact with their workers' unions today on this very issue.

It does seem, at least for Vero, that cases are closely following testing as the positivity rate there is fairly low (3.9%). Not sure about Orange or Osceola counties or Beaufort in SC...

Edited to note: We are going to Vero next month, so that is mainly what I've been following :)

My impression is the union has said (I assume correctly) that the majority of employees want to open and go back to work. But I’m sure a minority would rather wait. And given the current rapid increase (and potential continued exponential growth) of positive cases, I have to admit we’re thinking hard about our August trip.

Which site or app is that from? Since our August trip is in jeopardy, I want to follow along for the next few weeks.

Union at DL was getting ready to demonstrate against opening this weekend.

Depending on the contract, negotiations & even union rules (would think they’d put it to an open vote to the membership but who knows, it’s florida-a right to work state).

CMs were sent info today that there are no plans to change opening date at WDW.

A health journo I know did the math. A lot of the increases nationally aren't tracking with number of tests, although this is state-level, and not county.

Florida's cases are up 71% while number of tests performed is down 12% in the last 2 weeks.

I haven't seen his receipts but I do trust him as a health data guy.

Depends where in Florida you are. We are going to Vero in a few weeks, so I have mainly been watching there. In Indian River County, they still have a fairly low positivity rate (knock on wood) and testing and cases have somewhat mirrored each other. They have had an uptick recently, but nothing, say, like Montgomery here in AL has had...
