Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

Living in Colorado, we have no rain gear. I've been shopping around, but I doubt I'll spend any money to get rain clothes I'll never wear again. Before our Disney trip last year, when the weather was looking really bad, I went shopping for "nice" ponchos. They weren't the best, but I found some at Walmart for around $4 each. They have a little carrying pouch and they snap at the side. I think my husband ripped his during the Disney trip, but mine and my sons stayed intact. We did end up with soaked jeans and shoes though. Has anyone had any experience with that waterproof spray for shoes that people keep talking about? I worry about it ruining the shoes. Maybe the more we plan for rain, the less there will be!

My suggestion would be to go for a 3-in-1 parka. They are great, because they automatically layer, and they'll work for winter even in very cold climates. It's got a warm inner liner that zips in, and a rain and snow proof outer shell. The two can be worn separately or together, so if you just need a little raingear it's great, and if it's really cold, it's great.

Starting to think about what to pack now!

The last month countdown is always the most exciting!

Is anyone else staying over in Vancouver after the cruise? Trying to work out best hotel/location for convenience. We stay just one night, so want an easy transfer from cruise dock following disembark, and then to get to airport next morning. Any ideas?

The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is a 3 min. cab/10 min. walk from the port - it is pretty much right in the heart of downtown too so you can explore Robson and Granville street and have easy access to the Skytrain about a block away.

Booking.com is a good site I use.

They also do airport shuttles for an extra fee! The Skytrain also has a Canada Line which goes directly to YVR.

When I think of "rain gear" in my normal life I just think of a waterproof layer. For me that is usually a Columbia shell that I can throw over a zip up fleece. I like layers. Someone mentioned a three in one parka or jacket which would be essentially the same thing. Many winter parkas have the option to unzip the inner fleece making it two jackets. You can wear the fleece alone, the shell alone (the "rain" part) or both together, giving you three options. I guess to some people, rain gear includes rain pants and boots.... I can't imagine ever needing that in my life : )

The rain jacket I am bringing to Alaska can smash up into a small pouch that is made into the jacket. Takes up little space and can be thrown over a fleece or whatever to keep me dry, nothing fancy.

I did read a trip report that suggested never go on an Alaskan cruise without a Poncho... I was thinking a poncho? Really? Like in the parks? Please no.... LOL

Who is in which stateroom? I'm giving gifts per family/stateroom and want to make sure the gifts are sent to the proper room and are decorated according to the occupants.

As to weather, I'd be the wrong one to ask but... 11 years ago when Rochelle and I went on close to the same cruise but 2 weeks later, I was comfortable walking around in jeans and a t-shirt. Bear in mind that I've made the comment "It's a warm snow" and may be in shorts if we get the higher end of the average temps. We had a mix of drizzle and sun for the different ports.

I know there aren't many around any more, but I love the Wilson's Leather Waterproofing spray. I have been riding a motorcycle for 15 years and I swear by it. I ride in the rain so I have to have something to keep me waterproof and the Wilson's spray works head to toe.

I'm actually tempted to bring my leather pants, but prob just my waterproof boots. I was thinking of my cold weather motorcycle jacket too, but think that will be over kill as it is really thick.

Being a Seattle local we will layer t-shirt, sweatshirt(WSU), and water proof shell.

I also didn't want to start up the kids that might see them, asking for them and they aren't offered on the ship. I like wearing the light up stuff, I think it's really fun. Anyone else bringing their hats/ears?

I don't know if they will sell any on the ship? This is my first dis cruise... but I just bought some cute pirate ears at the disneystore website for my little boys to wear

The Angels are playing the Mariners that weekend and there are lots of tickets left. Safeco field is a great ball park if you get the chance. The promotion that Sunday is all kid 14 and under can run the bases after the game.

I think most kids will understand that some things are only available at WDW/DLR, and those too young to understand are easily distracted with something else (speaking from experience...). I say go for it!

Hi Jen - We've done the kids bases run at Dodger's stadium. You or your husband can walk with your son if he doesn't want to go alone. There were people with newborns carrying them around the bases.
If it is like LA, you can walk down and wait near the dugout for them to finish, taking pictures

Is anybody interested in doing a Mariners pre-cruise meet? It would be easy to sit in the same section. Tickets start at $15.00 for the outfield. We could also meet at Pyramid Brewery. It is across the street from Safeco and children are welcome.
