My family currently plans to dress up for pirate night. My husband wants a frock coat at the very least, but he wants me to make it. :rolleyes2 The kids want purchased costumes, but I don't want to pay $40 for it.

Piecey, you don't know how to sew? I'm not an expert seamstress, but I have experience with period costuming, and I'm happy to give advice if I can come up with it. The pattern you showed looks simple.

I had heard that the dress-up night is the second night of the cruise, no matter which restaurant you go to. I've already told my family they won't wear shorts or jeans to dinner, but I don't know that we're going to be very dressy.

What about using mock turtlenecks and then adding lace to the sleeves and making those lacey panels to go in front of the mock turtleneck? Black shorts would work too. As always you could add the accessories, eye patch, a fake mole or mustashe, fake large gold ear ring, they'll get the bandana for their heads (if in the right restaurant). You can even use a plain white t-shirt and rip up the sleeves into panels...does that make sesne?

I can't think of girl suggestions right now. I'll post more if I come up w/ any thing. Some thing else to think of, one family that sailed a while back dressed up as characters from Peter Pan to be different. That would be cool.

My version of sewing consists of a lot of tacky tape and an iron. :rotfl2: I love the idea of sewing, but I just don't have the time to do it.

Alright, so this is a bit strange and has nothing to do with a cruise...
but my brother writes movie reviews for a college paper in Morgantown, WV. He has also developed a webpage for his reviews and he's got videos and things on there that he's created. (Warning- he has an off sense of humor, so you might not find them amusing.)

Look what I made! There's a Walt Disney font too!!!! very easy to use although there's no way to preview your creation. I like it so far.

Hi! LOL Yes, my son will turn 12 this summer. I'm sure he'd love to know someone else on the cruise! He's very independent, I don't think he's going to want to spend any time with us. :confused3 :rotfl2:

Vicki--we got to see Phantom when it came through here in November, and we got to take our kids. They loved it! Even though I made them get all dressed up. :rolleyes1 If they still fit their dress-up clothes this fall, I'll probably make them wear them to the dress-up dinner.

Speaking of which, how fancy is everyone getting for that? Are we talking evening clothes here? For me, wearing a skirt and shaving my legs is dressed up. Thoughts, anyone? :hippie:

I've got a dress that's kind of dressy. Its a simple cut dress that I can dress up or down. I'll probably wear sandals (nicer ones) on our dress up evening. I'm sure my dh will be wearing dockers and a polo shirt. My girls will probably wear their princess dresses or cotton summer dresses. My ds will probably wear the same as my dh. I'd like to feel some what formal on at least one night.

Can you imagine in the earlier days when every one had to dress up ALL the time? Titanic any one? :lmao:

Bringing a dress for my sweetpea won't be a problem--traditionally, we have to limit her to one or two dresses per trip. I, however, am...well, the polite word would be chubby. Nylons which aren't painful for me are hard to find, and I hate them. I know the simple solution is to wear nice pants, but I honestly haven't worn anything but jeans or work pants in two years, so I guess I'm having a bit of a hard time picturing what kind of nice pants I need to locate. I know I sound a bit crazy  I guess I'm letting this dress-up night get to me too much. Actually, I'm just in a panic over everything and it's being focused on insane little details. :rotfl:

Don't stress about what you are wearing. We are going to have too much fun to worry about trivial things like dressing up for dinner.

BTW, I wear pantyhose to work because I work in an office where business attire is required and I will not put on a pair of pantyhose on vacation plus BF hates pantyhose. For the record, I am average size and I can't find pantyhose that don't pinch. Men invented those things, for that I am sure :stir:

I found two really cute summer dresses on clearance at the Gap Outlet last fall. I will wear those with strappy sandals to dinner. For Palo's I have a wrap black dress that can be dressed up or down. I am a huge fan of the black dress and you don't have to wear pantyhose. Do you have a Chico's near you? If not go online. They have sizes that are meant for woman with curves plus they have nice pants sets or dresses. A little pricey so I would watch for a sale.

::yes:: I got acrylics on my nails last time and I really wished I got a pedicure instead! I was too busy having fun I didn't feel self concious about myself. I was too busy having fun with my family and those we met. I will definately try and get at least a pedicure before we cruise.

I'm looking forward to having a great time with you all!

Definitely do NOT stress about what you wear on this cruise. Wear what you feel comfortable in :goodvibes . I never ever where panty hose unless absolutely neccessary. :cool1: Alot of people on these boards get their panties in a twist over what other people are wearing, in reality its a very small amount of people that are cruising that are on these boards, especially on the Wonder so don't sweat it. I really did not notice many people extremely dressed up on the wonder. We did the Palo brunch and people were dressed pretty vacation casual imo. (Capris, summer dresses, even one woman in jeans and nice top). We did not go to Palo for dinner so it may very well be more formal. I really think that the Wonder tends to be a little more casual than the Magic. I always wore a summer skirt or dress to dinner with nice sandals but never pantyhose. I never felt out of place at all. :thumbsup2 Lets just have an awesome time. :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cool1: :yay:

Hi Dawn(s) :wave2:

Sorry I am so behind on keeping up with our thread. :badpc:

I have two sons, 15 and 13 (in April) that will also be on board. It's great to know that there will be other similar aged boys for them to meet.

I agree.
And Kerry you are right MEN invented pantyhose and High heel shoes!!!
You should have seen DH when we went to see Musical Christmas Carol and Phantom running through downtown. I told him I was going to make him wear heels and run through Down!
I bought some nice dresses to wear and a nice pair of shoes! As for pantyhose I'm lucky if I get one full use out of them before they rip!

GO STEELERS!~
:thumbsup2

I hate to rehash this topic, but are we ALL going to need passports when we cruise?

No, passports won't be required until December of this year. So, you don't have to worry about that cost if you don't want to. We're considering getting passports anyway, for the ease of having them. (Plus, it's something I can use to help convince my hubby to take me to Disneyland Paris in a few years. :rotfl: "But honey, the kids' passports will expire soon, shouldn't we get one more use out of them?")

:jumping1: WE can still go and have money to spend! Man, if I HAD to get passports, I'd have to tell the kids, sorry no souvies or christmas presents this year. :rolleyes1

I have to get one for when I go to Europe in June.. and Michael is thinking about having one just in case. So that we don't have ANY problems at all.

I want to talk BF into taking me to Belize next year so if we get passports now I will have them ready for next year

I haven't been all that excited lately about the cruise, not sure why. :confused3

However, this morning my son said "today is February!" That made realize, we only have seven more months  :cheer2:  :yay:

We are planning a 3-4 day weekend in New York City this summer while DS is with his Dad. My attention has been diverted to this. I have to get back on track (of course my theory is, that is where I will get my proposal :bride: )

I checked my packing list, I am doing pretty good. Just a few more items!!!!

Kerry you'll get excited again!!!!!

I want to start packing!!!!!!
OUr income tax refund is going to pay off our cruise!!!!!!!
I cant wait!!!!!
I just found out tickets for Annie go on sale 2-13! I cant wait DD wants to see it. I do too but not as bad as Phantom!!!!

Me too! my first year filing as a single parent (can you say ching, ching, ching) I never realized how much bigger a tax bracket the ex put me in!!! Had too much coming out. Yes I know that you are not suppose to loan uncle sam your money interest free. I already fixed it for '06.

It's also paying for the Dolphin Swim and the spending money. :cheer2:

I have noticed the same thing myself over the years. Since I book (as do most) far in advance, there seems to be the initial period of excitement and then it falls into a lull for me until about MAy when things pick up and my planning begins in earnest...you will be excited again very soon..don't worry..
