I had credit left over on an airline from my flights from Europe, so when I booked a flight through that airline it only cost me 4.90.. but to book Michael on the same flights was more money than either of us had, so he's on Southwest.

His sister's husband was in the Air Force. She had cancer. I don't remember which type, Michael is really quiet and I only remember him mentioning it when she was diagnosed in December, in March when they told her she was fine and then when I came back from Europe in June.. that the doctors had been wrong and she had died while I was away. (At least I think that is the stream of how things happened.. if not, it was awfully close.)
Her husband's family had funeral plots in Maine, so that is where she was buried. He husband will be buried next to her..
She was only 19 and left behind a son :(

*edit*
Oh, I found a better picture of Michael than the Bingo one..
This is actually him and Michelle, the sister I was talking about up there..

:sad2: So sorry to hear about Michael's sister. Looks like she is pregnant in that picture. Cancer is so nasty. So young. So sad. Leaving a young husband and a baby. Sorry.

Just wanted to pass on my best wishes and prayers to you and your family while struggling with the loss of your mother as you knew her. My grandpa had dementia and it was a real struggle to watch him slowly deteriorating.

My cousin has recently moved in with her grandma to take care of her because she has alzheimer's and she is literally so exhausted they had to get 24 hour care to come in to help her out.

I have a second little very part time job (only about 6 hours a week) doing private care for a woman with alzheimer's. I used to have about 3 "clients" I worked with but am unfortunately only working with one person now. It is very exhausting and is even more difficult when they are family and you are deeply emotionally attached to the person.

There is often guilt by family members when they have a loved one that is ill or needs care and the family can't give them what they need. Anyway I just wanted to share with you that there are a lot of people who have been in you shoes so you are not alone out there.

There are a lot of agencies and support out there for you and your family. And there are specially trained people who can give your family the help they need, and you shouldn't feel guilty about getting that help.

It was a big struggle for my family to just "give in" and hire the caregiver for my grandpa but we knew that we needed that extra support, and we are very thankful that we did it. Good luck making this difficult decision.

I hope that didn't come off too preachy or anything. I am in no way an expert but I have been in more than a few nursing facilities so if you need any advice or have any questions feel free to pm me.

Thanks so much for the kind thoughts. Mother has been cared for at my sister's home by my sister and at her own home by my brother for the last couple years. She is currently at a stage where she gets up at night and wanders, she can unlock and open the doors, she does not remember to put on a depends at night so the bed is soaked in the morning, she thinks the peach lumps in her oatmeal are corn, etc. She once described a recipe that she was CONVINCED she HAD to get my sister to NEVER make again with some outrageous ingredients that my sister--a WONDERFUL COOK would never combine. It is very sad.
I look forward to more ideas of what to look for in a facility.

My entire state lacks a team...

You can have our team, the Dolts. Don't get me started, they've disappointed me for 12 years now.

Thanks for sharing :thumbsup2 . This is the kind of advice I need to get so I know what to look for. I have been doing some reading but want practical ideas too!! :cheer2: DISers are the greatest! :cheer2:

Thanks for the  also. It is hard to be with her as it is not my Mom any more. It is a scared little-kid-old-lady and occasionally my Mom peaks through. DH can get her laughing--he is so good with her. But she needs 24 hour coverage. We could not have her here as our condo is so small, there would be no privacy and she could walk out the door and get lost in the building or the city in a flash.

I'm catching up in invisible mode. Wow, you all were tame tonight. I just missed some of you. We've had a long day. Time is almost of the essence now. I've got to get myself in gear. I'm hoping once my kids school starts that I can pick up the pace. I found large (8x10) magnet sheets (qty 2) for $4.88 at Walmart. Didn't know if any of you would be interested, but there go. I thought it was a pretty neat idea. Magnet on the back, and it would be sticky on the front for phots, door sign, pictures....

Good night all!

Thanks for the info on the magnet sheets! I was about to give up on doing these since the only sheets I could find were at Office Depot and cost an arm and a leg. This is much better and seems much more convenient.

Thanks for passing along the info! :thumbsup2

awww heck, I had to come back and edit this to add, great! now I have to uncross off something off my list of things to do. :guilty: Oh well I had already started the signs so now I just have to actually finish them. Yay! Its getting closer now

I'm kind of afraid to go to bed because you guys would probably get to my cabin number while I was asleep! :teeth:

Actually it will most likely happen while I'm at work hmmm... wednesday I predict. I wonder if my boss would mind if I called out sick so that I could post on my cabin number post.... something tells me he just wouldn't understand :rotfl:

Have a good night you guys, :wave2: I look forward to reading tomorrow's posts and seeing if anyone got their documents in the mail yet. :woohoo:

ok i havent gone to bed yet, siiigh :sad2:

I just remembered something else I was supposed to do and it led me to a question and I thought I would ask those who know... my DIS pals!

My sister collects pressed pennies. She wants to get one while in Florida. I'm so disappointed that Disney doesn't have them on the ship anymore. I heard they used to, grrrrr . :furious:

Anyway, I looked up a website and there are some in the airport at the kennedy flight center store, so i'm excited :teeth:

But I'm babbling and getting sidetracked.... while I was at that website it also said they had some at SeaWorld. The site has photos of the pennies that are available and one penny had what looks like a polar bear on it.

So! Do all SeaWorlds have polar bears? I thought sea world was just dolphins and whales and seals and stuff. I have never been to sea world, there aren't any close to here so don't really know much about it.

I should just go to their website.... gheesh I'm tired. I'm sick of workin weekends. We need to hire someone soon, Patsy you need a job? A bit of a commute to your school I'm sure, :rotfl:

oh and to those of you who were talking about being addicted to mine sweeper and stuff on your puter, I'm stuck on web soduko. Just thought I'd share.... :bitelip:

sorry, I'll go to sea world's website now... take care everyone! :grouphug:

Wooo Hooooo I'm a Mouseketeer!!!

I don't know when it happened, but yay me! :cool1:

ha ha, Taeja has 6000 posts, so my itty bitty mouseketter status is pretty ridiculous but tonight, in my delerious state, I'm feelin pretty excited!

:Pinkbounc  :cheer2: :bounce: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cool1:  :yay:

Hahahha.. yeah.. sorry.. Unless you're going to pay me a couple hundred an hour, I think I'd eat up the paycheck in transportation costs..
