Jan, here a thread for you...and btw what was the name of that martini you were telling me about yesterday? I can't even get the words out of my mouth let alone type it out.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1172101
:confused3 MARTINI???? :confused3
What was the context? Give me some clues as to what I was saying at the time. I am a post-menopausal woman and my brain leaks. :cool1:

 WAIT--I checked the thread you listed and got an idea. Was it when I was telling you about the Captain's Reception on our first cruise and the drink I liked? If so, it was not a martini, it was
MARTINI and ROSSI (is the brand) and the beverage is ASTI. It is a sweet champagne.

A Shih-Tzu!!!
Rink is a Shih-Tzu. He's wonderful. :goodvibes Very clean, very close to anyone in my family.. so he doesn't wander off far without us. He's hypoallergenic-- so allergies are never an issue even though he's got the longer fur. He's tiny but he's got tons of energy. Loves to cuddle up and lay down and have you pet him but is content to do his own thing, too. :) Not yappy like most small dogs-- rarely hear a peep from him..
It's pretty awesome to watch him move. He prances when he walks and it's pretty when he runs. Obvious he's meant for show..
Oh and the best part.. he loves Disney as much as us.
He brought this CD to me randomly the other day.. I had to take a pic :)

Awwwww Patsy! Rink is such a cutie pie (and has GREAT taste in music :goodvibes )

You sound like a very proud mommy! thanks for sharing your pic.

Jan where in central New York did you grow up?

Suzanne
Born in Syracuse, grew up in Whitesboro (near Utica) went to college in Troy, finished college in Brooklyn while living on Long Island and had our first house in Petersburgh (find the place where Vermont and Massachusetts come together and go 6 miles into NY.)
Are you from NY too?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Spot

The Black Spot is a fictional literary device invented by Robert Louis Stevenson for his novel Treasure Island. In the book, a pirate is presented with a "black spot" to officially pronounce a verdict of guilt or judgment. It consists of a circular piece of black paper or card placed in the hand of the accused. It was a source of much fear because it meant the pirate will be executed. In Treasure Island, Billy Bones is so frightened by it he suffers a stroke and dies. There is no record of "black spots" in reality and how Stevenson came up with the idea is unknown.

The Black Spot has since been used in other works of popular culture:

Muppet Treasure Island, a retelling of Treasure Island, the black spot is drawn on a piece of paper and given to Billy Bones. It's also given to Long John Silver on a page from the Bible. This causes him to get out of it by claiming they've defiled the holy book.

The 2006 Disney feature film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, has a literal Black Spot as a marker that the Kraken belonging to Davy Jones can track.

BASED ON THIS, SOUNDS LIKE THE HOMEMADE BLACK SPOTS THAT ARE ALREADY DONE ARE BETTER THAN THE STORE BOUGHT AS THEY ARE MORE AUTHENTIC!

Jan :earsgirl:

Thanks. That makes it clearer. :) It's interesting to read the origin.

LOL Well, mine aren't terribly authentic. The ones on deadmentellnotales.com are basically wooden nickels that are black on one side, and say "The Black Spot" on the other. I bought wooden disks, colored one side black, and wrote "The Black Spot" on the other. Very copycat. :rolleyes1 But mine are hand-made. :rotfl: I think they look good, but you know how kids can be sometimes...I mean, I make costumes for the whole family and the kids always prefer store-bought. And I guess I haven't quite got enough to stress about :bitelip: so I'm finding things to be stressed about. Of course, I'm really really hoping the kids will think they're cute and not horrifyingly frightening because of the Robert Louis Stevenson connection...

I'm headed to the Disney Store tomorrow...show of hands, who is making their own shirts, and who bought them? We might just do the wristbands, but we need to know what peer pressure says. :lmao:

Oh, by the way, one of my black spots is for the Renaissance Festival. We have a Jack Sparrow impersonator (he's not period, but he's very good and very entertaining) and on the last weekend, my husband will present him with three presents. He's going to get a jug of rum, a jar of sand with a little heart in it, and a black spot. I'm thinking I might take a video camera to catch this... :rotfl2:

OoooHHHH! Now I got it! Can you hear the ding from the lightbulb turning on now?? Jan, my brain leaks premenopausal, so will I have any hope?

dolphinlover invaded our thread. That's why I refered to our thread getting infected, infected by an invader. We should make him walk the plank, but pirate: I think dolphinlover's moved on.

Dawn, I'm planning on making t-shirts! I have a great printer here at home that I want to try graphics on. I can't wait to make the treasure island Mickey design.

Vicki I love all your pictures from kayaking I've never been to Pittsburgh but it looks like a cool city. My bil is from Uniontown and is over the top about anything Pittsburgh.

Jan
we are in CNY too. We live in Cicero and I grew up in Syracuse and my DH in Baldwinsville. We ended up meeting our senior year of college in Geneseo. The weird part is that he played lacrosse for Bishop Ludden high school and I kept stats for my high school boys team so we were at the same place many times but never knew each other. How we never met at Geneseo the 1st 3 years is strange too since it's such a small campus. We like it here for the most part but could do without such a loooooonnnnggg winter. ;)

Quick! I need help! Using bread, how do you keep the moisture out? toasted or untoasted? I've got salad lettice that I need to pull the moisture out from.

meant to comment on Rink too. what a cutie! Vicki, looks like you had great kayaking waters. Reesie our lab isn't fond of water (the hose). We'd like to get her to a body of water (our lake aka resivour), but sadly we haven't, bad doggie parents! PItts looks beautiful!
