Disney Wonder - October 14, 2012 - Hawaii

Hey everyone, just booked this afternoon, have lots of reading to do to catch up! :) Extremely excited to be going on this cruise and to meet everyone. Have an 8 year old son so hoping there are other kids his age to make friends with! Did the mexican Riviera last February and there were a ton of 7-9 year old boys made the whole trip! He knew someone everytime he went to the kids club! I will start reading previous posts and try catch up on whats happening
:cool1:

Welcome aboard! :cheer2: party:

By chance, was that the Feb 5 Mexican Riviera cruise? My son Rhobert (7) and I were on that one with a whole lot of 7-9 yr old boys! :jumping1: Not as many on the DisBoard this time in that age range for sure, but it is a long time to pull them from school.

Second cruise to Hawaii? I'd love to hear the story too. I have a queston. Did you get to see the volcanos at night? I've heard that's something to see. OK, two questons, did you see any whales?:sail:

Linda

No we didn't see the volcanos at night. On the April cruise the ships route didn't take us past that part of the island. We've noticed on this cruise that the on-line itinerary shows us going around the side of the island with the lava flow, so it they stick to that we might be able to see it if we're close enough (I suspect it would be early, early morning).

Nope, no whales either. Was the wrong time of the year, may also miss them on this cruise as well.

Thanks so much for the info. Heres hoping for the lava flow. I hold out no hope for the whales on this trip but who knows what might be swiming out there in the deep blue.:goodvibes

I have a few misc. questions about the Hawaii cruise; if anyone knows the answers I'd appreciate it !!

1) Are we having a pirate night?
2) Has there been confirmation that there are 3 formal/semi formal nights?
3) More specific for Hawaii:

We are taking DCL excursions mostly because we feel more comfortable doing so especially for the long drive excursions (Road to Hana). When we get back to the ports after the DCL excursions, we will have a few hours before we leave port (shortest time is 2.5 hours longest is 6 hours in Maui). Does anyone know if it is easy to catch a cab at the port to head to another location on the islands? Looking for this info for each of the 4 islands.

We are doing Pearl Harbor excursion and when we get back we will have 2.5-3 hours before ship leaves port - is that enough time to walk or taxi to Waikiki or Diamond Head?

We would love to maximize our time after the excursions. and are hoping a cab can help us do that. Unfortunately, i've been sick the last 3 weeks and have not been able to do any research like I normally do. I'm all better and now I'm rushing trying to finalize our plans so your help is appreciated! Thank you!

Not sure if you are on the Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/AlohaMickey/ All these questions have been asked and answer several times there.

Not on facebook; sorry.

I'm not on disboards much either but thought I'd try to find some answers; thanks.

You may find some answers over on cruise critic the ports are listed and it is a board similar to DIS so searchable.

We're on this cruise however I do not have the info you're looking for I to haven't had much time to research and honestly we've scheduled mainly DCL excursions; other than going to Aulani on our own w/ a rental car (I just booked a night w/my DVC so we'll have resort privileges) We figure this is our first time to Hawaii and we'll probably be back so going at it a bit laid back which we really need at this time. 14 days on the ship is awesome the rest gravy.

Night 12, the second Thursday, is Pirate Night
Nights 2 and 11 are Formal Nights, night 13 is semi-formal
These have been confirmed

Yes it is easy to catch a cab at each port. Many of us are renting cars for more flexibility. As these are American ports and islands, I'm quite comfortable renting and finding my way around, though I have never visited Hawaii before.

I hope you are feeling better and can find time in the next three weeks to research each island, there is so much to see and do.

I understand you are not on Facebook, but 99% of the discussion about this cruise is happening there. Lots of friendly people and planned activities. Perhaps you can find a friend or family member familiar with Facebook who can access our cruise group for you. We would love to get to know you and invite you into our large circle of friends.

Postcard Swap

You give a postcard from your hometown/state/country to each person/cabin on the list. They in turn will leave one for you. It is always nice, if you wish, to enclose a short message on the back of the postcard. You can pop this into the FE if the recipient has one, or place it directly into the fish or slip it under the door if there is no FE. At the end of the cruise, you will have a nice collection of pictures/cards from around the world from your new DIS friends!

Below is a list of people who want to participate in the Postcard Swap.
