Disney Wonder November 19-22

Being our first cruise and all that went against us, weather, sickness, no castaway cay, rough seas... we still had a great time. The kids loved all the shows and movies they watched and I think they were pretty impressed with the ice cream too!

The cab driver in Cocoa Beach said it snowed the night before we came in. We are from Kansas, and the fact that it was warmer here than it was while we were on our cruise is kind of depressing. Who would have thought that was possible.

Luckily the weather while in port at Nassau was incredible and the kids spent almost the entire day in the Mickey pool! They loved it. We had great service and enjoyed time with new friends. I agree, we will probably shy away from Nov. Cruising next time, we did book a 7 day Western but haven't decided on an exact date so we will change our booked date when we do.

No upgrade for us but we were really happy with our Cat 8. Compared to RCL it was much nicer and larger.

Just back today....I am so mad at myself for not booking excursions at Nassau! We stayed on the ship Nassua day and I really regret it!
That last night.....We were in a category 10 all the way on floor 1 and boy, we were feeling all those bumps. My son flew out of his bed in the middle of the night (luckily he was on the bottom) and glasses were flying off the table.
Hey, did anyone feel really off balance after getting off the ship?? For about two and a half days we felt like we were still rocking...LOL.. DH said the way we were walking-we probably looked drunk!!!

It was our first cruise also. Castaway Cay was what we were all really looking forward to. We are from Missouri and it was very depressing to know that the weather was warmer here than in Florida. We had a great time. Our oldest loved the Teen Loft and was out until it closed each day. Our youngest wasn't as impressed - he is autistic and just couldn't seem to settle in to the waiting and the schedule. He did pretty good, but prefered to hang out in the room. The movies were too loud for him (noise sensitive) The deck parties were also to loud. He loved the characters, but didn't get to see many due to not wanting to stand in the long lines, but that was okay. He also did not like the long wait at supper. I am not for sure cruising was for him. (He did loved WDW parks!)

The last night was awful, at least for me. I get motion sick anyway, had the ear patch on the whole trip and was fine, but had to wear my sea bands to bed and both DH & myself did the same thing, for about 2 1/2 days we felt like we were still rocking on the boat. It was really strange.

Our oldest son got the flu in the hotel the day we deparked, at least he was fine the next day to fly home. Must have contracted on the boat. Our youngest has it today! At least it was at the end of our trip.

We were very thankful for the upgrade and really enjoyed the verandah. If we cruise again, we will definitely get a verandah.

We did the dolphin encounter in Naussa and really enjoyed it. It was wonderful. Went to the staw market to say that I have been there, but don't think I would ever go back, I was not impressed.

I do think if we ever do it again, we need to do a 4 day, so we have one day at sea. I think if we would have docked in Castaway Cay, we would have felt like we didn't get to enjoy the ship at all.

Glad to be home!
Kim

We felt the after effects also. In fact I was fine on the ship but the day after while in line at McDonalds in DTD I started feeling weird, motion sick without the motion. Still felt it when we returned home to the tropical midwest. All in all though we loved it. Kind of wish we would have got off the boat in Nassau but the kids didn't seem to mind.

Wow! I didn't know it was so bad lower down on the ship. We just had major creaking and rocking. I swore I'd never cruise again, but now that it's over, I'll consider it. Fortunately, my nervous nelly DD9 fell asleep before it got really bad. I was worried about my elderly parents. My mom was ok, and my dad slept through the whole thing. He was on the Bering Sea in WWII so it must have been old home day for him :rotfl2: I also felt like I was still on the boat for 2 days....especially in the shower! I'm sorry to hear about your kids getting sick. We're all ok....for now. We went to Atlantis, and had a fun day there, but the pools were freezing! Even if the ship got to Castaway Cay, it wouldn't have been much fun with that weather. We went to Universal after the ship. The weather was great on Thurs. and Fri. Hopefully, all of our next vacations will be much better.
