Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

No worries. I know that there are FL resident discounts. I was just wondering if there were any for CA residents now that the Wonder will be there full time now.

Ok Lori - I have to ask! When you were a cast member for Disney, what did you do and where did you work? Did you work at Disney Studios or in the parks? :confused3 I'm so curious!

Rofl....no problem. I worked at DL from '86 - '89 (yes, I'm that old!) In ODV.

Hi Jessica
Ok so Amber and Rick are in too - We talked todday and are going to figure out stuff to make etc.
as for doing half one day and half the next I really like that PLUS that way it is fair to all who are participating . Ambers concern with doing it as a free for all and buying for just who you want is that some people may get more stuff because they are on the boards more and it will basically just become a popularity thing - I can see her point so for ME and HER we will do the split and buy for everyone just not every day
we were even thinking of doing decks 1 and 2 1 day then decks 4and 5 the next and so on and so forth then starting back to 1 and 2 - dont know yet -
only thing I would suggest adding is if you CAN ...try to buy for each cabin at least once so no one gets their feelings hurt and not just the regulars on the boards are getting bought for but more so everyone gets something out of it . what do you guys think ? Im sure thats what we are all counting on doing though but I just wanted to voice that for Amber since she isnt on the boards - This site is not very accessable with a screen reader so its hard to keep up and log on etc . for us .

also I asked before but did not get a reply - do you know if you have to have EVERYONE on your reservation paid in full for booking stuff because mine is linked with 2 other cabins and familys - or is it just that the cabin thats paid can book ? Confused:confused3

I answered you, post #730, one page back.:goodvibes

I am thinking that my DD (12) and I will be staying on the ship at the ports. What kind of things are there to do on the ship while in port?

In Nassau (on the Wonder) a few years ago we got off the ship for about 45 minutes and then got back on for the rest of the day. The offerings on-board while the ship is in port are very limited, but we still had a good time. They will have one of the restaurants open for lunch (it was Triton's that day but I don't know if that switches around) and the snack bars on deck are open. The pools are pretty empty and they played a movie on the big screen by the pool, the movie theater was open as well. I know that there were some activities, but I can't recall what they were. I seem to recall that the characters were out for meet and greets and there was no line since there weren't many people on board. Overall it was nice and quiet and and a great time to explore the ship.

Hi Jessica
have EVERYONE on your reservation paid in full for booking stuff because mine is linked with 2 other cabins and familys - or is it just that the cabin thats paid can book ? Confused:confused3

I think that each cabin is paid for separately even though the reservations are linked together so as long as your cabin is paid in full you should be fine. It seems like the easiest way to confirm that you are clear and free would be to look at your reservation on the DCL site and see if there is a balance associated with your cabin.

I forgot that I had wanted to comment towards this too!

Pam - they definitely scale back things while in port. There is a legal issue with cruisers spending money while docked in port; therefore ALL things where you would pay money are closed and/or not done! For instance, no shops, no bingo - nothing that's requires the cruiser to spend money!

It is a good time to relax or layout by the pool though. I just wouldn't bank on "activities". They may have some family game type things, but usually I just see people hanging out by the pool and watching a Disney movie on the top deck Jumbo tron thing. :thumbsup2

We've stayed onboard on some short cruises to Mexico as we've done the ports before; it's actually very refreshing to be onboard without the crowds. While Jessica is correct that some of the onboard venues are closed, this has never been an issue for us as there are other activities going on. However, I like sea days, so this is like an extra sea day to me :cheer2:

Thanks Ryan GREAT IDEA :thumbsup2 I didnt even think to check the site !!! I knew you had to be paid in full but I was not sure about the entire party . I want to try Palo this cruise ...Who has eaten there ? Is it good if you dont like sea food ? My friends really want to go to high tea too - Those are the 2 things I want to book bec high tea is only on AT SEA days -
Has anyone done the tea before ? If so whats it like are there characters and what do you get ?
I did it on my alaska cruise but it was rather lame LOL I KNOW Disney will do better though esp since they charge for it

We had so many cabins on ours that were linked together, we had to disconnect them in order to book Palo. I like Palo, we'll probably book several reservations this time for brunch only since we won't have kids with us.

BTW....just as an FYI....I spoke with Enterprise car rental, they charge for the car rental, about $45 for the day (9:00 am to 2:00 pm) and a $40 drop off fee, plus taxes. I think we'll be going with Super Shuttle for the price difference. Super shuttle is $17 p/p each way, vs. the total for the car rental was $120.00. We've gone this route in FL for the caribbean cruises, and it was way more economical for our family. Weird how they charge a drop off fee in CA, but not FL.:scared1:

October is right around the corner guys!!! And we all know what that means...HALLOWEEN TIME! I know it's totally off subject, but this is the best time of the year for the Chavez household. We've already purchased our tickets to the Halloween Party for my birthday and our costumes have been purchased as well. Sergio and I are going to be Batman and Robin. :cool2: What are you guys dressing up as?

I'm getting ahead of myself though because Sunday is scavenger hunt day with Jessica and Ryan!!! :woohoo: I can't wait!!!

AND...I must add...that in EXACTLY 4 MONTHS, we will be cruising with MICKEY!!!!!

Cari - We've eaten at Palo for dinner, brunch and high tea. My wife hates seafood but LOVES Palo so I'm sure you will have no problem finding plenty you like. High tea is good but I'd do brunch if you had to make the choice. There are no characters or anything. I only did high tea once and it was in a group setting so I don't know if our selection was any different. It was basically our choice of tea and a good selection of pastries and other small finger food desserts. It was good though and I'll gladly do it again if we can get in.

Yanira - We're excited about Halloween too. Emma decided to be Rapunzel. Amy and I have no idea what we want to be. Emma actually had more fun giving out candy last year than she did trick or treating. We live in one of those subdivisions that people from the outskirts drive into. Every year we get around 300 kids. It's a hectic but fun night!

Palo isn't necessarily a seafood place, yes it has seafood but it also has veal, beef, lamb, chicken, various pastas and so forth.

I've seen alot of mixed reviews about the high tea, but it isn't expensive ($5 ?) so it's got to be worth trying. I don't know think there are characters.

Ryan - There are characters at High Tea? I couldn't find any information about that. Is it new? I know there is a Tea with Alice in Studio Sea. We did that last time with Emma.

Cari - I found this description of High Tea on this site.

High Tea at Palo: A lovely afternoon tea service is offered at Palo on Day 3. Reservations are required. Adults only, recommended dress is resort casual. $5.00 fee.
Guests can enjoy the amazing delicacies offered by Chef Simone. Freshly baked raisin scones are served with a decadent Devonshire cream and tasty apricot and strawberry jams. Enjoy the dainty finger sandwiches of smoked salmon and cucumber, delicious chicken curry, traditional egg salad and crisp cucumber and cream cheese as you sip one of the ten teas offered. Selections include Orange Pekoe, English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, Chamomile, Hot Cinnamon Spicy, Black Currant, Peppermint, Lemon Verbena, and Darjeeling. The loose tea leaves are steeped table side in individual pots. A creamy English trifle and mocha éclairs round out the offerings. This can be booked on embarkation day right at Palo and it is recommended that you do so.

I'm not aware of any characters in Palo, ever.

We were only able to do Palo for dinner when we were on the Magic. The goal this cruise is to do it all: brunch, tea, and dinner. I just wish we knew which night to book. I guess we've done Animator's before, so it wouldn't be a huge loss if we missed it this time.

One month for Silvers to book; four months more to wait.

Hitting DLR in a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure if it will help pass the time before the cruise or make it worse.

Jessica and gang: Good luck on the scavenger hunt!

Woot woot - scavenger hunt! WooHoo! :woohoo: Just got done working on some homework (yes, started right after work at 5:30 and it's now 11:00). Up early to get cracking on the rest of my homework - work on homework all day tomorrow until dinner time when we will head towards our hotel! Unless of course I actually FINISH my homework, which means we could head to Disneyland for the day! :woohoo: Then we go nighty-night in the hotel and wake up to meet Yanira and Sergio for the scavenger hunt! I'm totally STOKED! It is a bit early though  6:45 AM! Registration at 7:00, Steakhouse 55 breakfast at 7:30 and hunt starts at 8:45! :yay: :cool1:

About Halloween - Ryan and I really want to go to the party, but we're waiting until after Oct 1st to read about it and see what people say. Honestly, aside from the candy it doesn't sound like they're offering anything special (other than the fireworks); so, we would spend $50 each to basically get candy and ride holiday versions of the rides that we could already ride for free. It is our 8 year anniversary weekend though, so it might be a fairly inexpensive way to spend it. More on that when we know!

YANIRA: What date are you going to the Halloween party? Isn't it in the beginning of the month?

OK - about costumes. I only have one costume story. We don't dress up, except for one year when we had to go to a party with Ryan' work because he was the 'new guy'. He didn't want to go, but I made him. Since I am short and fat (yes, I know it) - I can only be things which fit my figure. So - when we dressed up I was an Oompa Loompa! :rotfl2: Not the crappy Johnny Depp kind (sorry gals, I HATE Johnny Depp and his version of the movie) - I was an ORIGINAL oompa loompa! Yuppers, little white jumper, orange face, green hair - the WORKS! I ROCKED! I've always said that if I ever dress up again (remember, I can only be short fat things) I would have to be a GARDEN GNOME! :rotfl2: Possibly the travelocity garden gnome! :rotfl: Ryan tried to be a pirate - he bought a cheap costume that I told him was cruddy but he didn't care. When we got to the part there was an AWESOME pirate and Ryan felt stupid - so - the rest of the night we told people he was a gay Paul Revere! :lmao: Yup, his "pirate hat" was a 3-corner hat and everything!:lmao:

Alrighty - I have a LOT of sleep to get and even more homework to do in the morning so I must go. Have a good weekend everyone!

Toodles :3dglasses

Hi Cari,
That's great - I'm glad you're both in! Ryan and I will be doing the 1/2 every other day thing, I think it's a great idea! I'm pretty sure everybody is already going to gift for each cabin at least once. As long as people are participating and giving gifts (not just receiving), then I don't think it will be a problem. I'm fairly certain that what you said was already the consensus. :thumbsup2

Yanira, Sergio, Jessica & Ryan - Have fun at the scavenger hunt. It sounds like so much fun.

Jessica - Your story about the costume party was hilarious! Good luck getting your homework done. I hope you have plenty of time for play this weekend.

You will have to remind me to tell you the story about the costume show I "modeled" in. I will need to tell you my ego-saving version of the tale before Amy tells you the humiliating version.

We still have no idea what to dress up as. Our friends had a great idea last year. Mom was the Queen of Hearts, Dad was the Mad Hatter, DD4 was Alice, and DD-9 months was a little white rabbit. Last year, I got a little creative and went as a tourist. I wore my loudest Hawaiian Mickey button-up shirt, khaki shorts, sandals with black socks, a leigh around my neck, fanny pack, and had Amy put dark blush all over my face save for the areas where my sunglasses were so it looked like a really bad sunburn. I got quite a few compliments.

For MNSSHP a few years ago, the three of us went as a 50's family. I was a greaser and Amy and Emma wore matching pink poodle skirts and black shirts. It was fun except I had a nightmare experience where valet parking at the Boardwalk lost my car (we had to use them as they closed off the self-parking lot). I was out there dressed like John Travolta from Grease chewing out the manager who was insisting I didn't park there even though I had my claim ticket. Errrrrrr!

I have got a fever - CRUISE FEVER !!!! anyone else share my pain LOL:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Do we know if there will be fireworks at sea and how many pirate partys they have ? hmmm what else
does anyone know if the seas get rough in January ? I hope not !! if they do lets pretend I never asked SHHHhhhhhh

Hmmmm
does anyone know the shipping limitations when shipping FEs to port ? I thought about doing it but Im so afraid they will get lost - with us being so close to port I might just carry on but not sure how much garb I will have packed for Denver

:confused3:rotfl::rotfl2:

Cari, there's one Pirate night and party, but it's anyone's guess as to when. It looks like there's a Minnie's Fiesta as well with mariachis.

I definitely have the cruise fever. Hoping a weekend visit to DLR will help.

I have no idea about shipping to the port. With it being the first MR cruise in a couple of years, I'd be concerned about them having their act together.
