Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Jessica you are more than the unofficial leader you are the leader with Ryan right behind you! So no more wishy wash stuff here! :cool1: ;)
Sorry about not being "vocal" as much as before. It has been crazy around here and there is no sign of slowing down. I haven't had a real job in quite some time and coordinating babysitting for Alec and all the other domestic stuff, well let's just say I'm glad I took pictures of our vacation so I can remember what it was like last week!
I have been reading our board religiously just haven't jumped in to say "HI!" So there, I said it!
Keep posting and I will jump in here & there.
Just a thought, we don't have to use the typical Mickey, Minnie, Donald characters, ya know. Jessica, have you looked at the DISboard member who does all those designs for others for door magnets? If I get time I will look that thread up again. I just got so lost on it, I could look at her designs for days and days.
OK, I need to go to bed!
Later,
Sue

I second that Sue!
Jessica you are the glue for our thread!! I can't believe how much you two(Ryan) have done! :worship: I am just finally getting to read the last posts and finally feeling a little caught up! All I can say is WOW and THANK YOU!

I know Jordak (not sure if that's who you were thinking of Sue??) does some awesome designs that seem to be custom made. I get lost in those threads as well!

BTW-if you hadn't heard the fees for passports are going up. If you have to get one or renew...do it now. I believe it goes up July 13th!
http://travel.state.gov/passport/fees/fees_837.html
My renewal is going from $75 to $110 :scared1:
Made an appointment with the local post office for Friday & already went to CostCo and spent the $5 for my picture. :cool1: The forms are all online & print out in pdf format.
Later!
Sue

Ok everyone - this is going to sound stupid because Ryan and I were both born and raised in San Diego - but we're having blanks on this. Aside from the zoo, wild animal park, balboa park, sea world, beach, or sports - can anyone think of something inexpensive and fun to do in San Diego?!? :confused3 We're trying to figure out what to do on my birthday in a couple of weeks and we can't think of anything! :sad2:

HELP?!?!?!?

How about Belmont Park? You could add Legoland to the mix as they just opened a new water park, but I honestly wouldn't recommend the place to anyone over 12. I have a blast there, but that's because my son is 3 and it's geared towards him. There's also wine tasting at Ofelia on the way to the Wild Animal Park. Of course, you probably have better wineries up in your neck of th woods.

I live here and can't think of much else. A day trip over to Coronado? Do you like baseball? Have you gone to a game at the new ballpark? A general pass is $5 and if you want "all you can eat," I think it's around $30. Comic-Con is coming up 7/22-25 if you're into that kind of thing. There's also Old Town and the Gaslamp Quarter. The USS Midway, an old air craft carrier museum, is pretty cool, too.

Take a look here http://www.sandiego.com/attractions and you might find something that is of interest.

Kris

In SD, we really liked wandering Seaport Village and checking out the shops. Nearby Belmont Park has (or at least had) free admission and you only pay for what you want to ride.

You could also make a day trip out to Julian. We really liked taking a ferry out to Catalina for the day. The ferry stop we took is in Dana Point north of Oceanside.

Thanks for posting about the passports Sue. Emma's expires in 2012. It's funny that kids' passports are good for five years. She is just a baby in her picture with a big two-toothed grin and barely any hair. She looks nothing like that now!

Hey Jessica,
Awesome job on the logos!! I really like number 4. Thanks for doing all the hard work!

Linda (Shadowryter) on another board created this for me. I thought I'd post it for anyone who might be interested.

For what it's worth, I think I like logo #3 the best. However, why Donald? Isn't Minnie the one with the fiesta party?

I still have to reply to the handful of posts before this one, but since this just came through I will start with it!

I love the 2011 logo! :)

On the logo, it's based on the Gran fiesta Tour boat ride at the Mexico Pavillion at Epcot. The 3 caballeros are the theme of the ride (the guys on the carpet), and they are looking for Donald in the ride and they say, "Donde estas Donald?" That's where that came from. Plus, the Disney Wonder has Donald Duck hanging off the back - he's kind of the Wonder's mascot (so to speak).

As a side note to everyone, I have to find it - but there is a better version of #1 (that has the fun Disney, the wheel 2011, and the mexican flag colored writing) - don't know what I posted the one I did. As soon as I find it in my massive amounts of logo files I will post that one to replace #1. Also, #3 has a better version with the 2011 wheel, etc. When I find them I will repost and set up a voting button like we did with the FE stuff (I think Cari or someone requested that). Sorry it's so confusing - I get scatterbrained sometimes! :rotfl2:

I think I'm tired now though, so I will catch up tomorrow with the replies and the updated logo post.

Have a good night everyone!

HELP?!?!?!?

We lived in El Cajon and moved about 4 years ago. What about Santee Lakes and BBQ or hangout with friends? Have you been to the USS Midway? That's neat. Or Mission Beach amusement park, Seaport Village, Or go to Dick's Last Resort in the Gaslamp. I love that place! If you like go carts you can go to the Miramar indoor cart racing, Point Loma Lighthouse, or Dave and Busters. That place is fun.

I skipped the Mexican Pavillion the one time I visited Epcot. Did enjoy the pastries over in Paris and the Canadian steakhouse, however. Brady also experienced his first fireworks there. The picture of his face at four months is classic!

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I just lost a few points on the Disney thermometer.

Kris

No worries, Kris. We won't make you walk the plank!
Epcot is probably the one park most don't pay attention to, but we spent the better part of a day there on our last visit & my son had a blast! Well except for the Viking ride. ;>( If you get a chance to go again, explore it. My son still has the mask they gave him. It is just paper but each country had a "charm" to attach to it. He loves looking at it all the time. But there is so much more & we loved the Mexico section. It doesn't hurt the DS is a Donald fan, either!

Jessica-don't worry too much about the logo's. We can all vote on what you have and if anyone wants to try their hand at it, we can include that in our voting too. :dance3:

Steve-the margarita recipe is pretty simple. Hopefully you like tart tasting stuff because it is. You could always modify it but we just got tired of buying mix and actually were trying to copy the new ones they have @ Chevy's. We had run out of our usual Cabo Wabo the night before & tried making a different one with Cuervo but it tasted a little nasty. Don't know what it was but it just didn't taste right. So we bought more Cabo Wabo & went back to the one we had made before:
1-1/2 oz Tequila
3/4 oz Agave Nectar
3/4 oz water
2-3 TBS of lime juice (we found Key Lime juice @ the store)
Put it into a martini shaker and shake (i try and shake it so it gets good and cold), then pour (I strain out the ice but I'm sure it would taste fine with the ice in it, too) and enjoy!
I make a mean pear martini, too. :cloud9: We even tried our hand @ making our won pineapple infused vodka! I swear we only drink maybe 2 times a month at the most but it is fun to make different stuff. We are debating what to bring with us on the ship. Most likely one or 2 bottles of wine at least. We share too if anyone is at our table. pirate:

OK, off to get ready for work. I have tomorrow off & I get to take care of the passport. Have a good day everyone!

Later,
Sue

Oh, I paid attention to it, at least from a food standpoint. Have you had the pretzel breadsticks at the steak restaurant? Pastries in Paris?

Seriously, our son was 4 months old at the time, so we only saw little bits here and there. We did truly appreciate the infant care centers, though.

I probably should have know about Donald. Now that I think about it, I think Jessica mentioned something previously (in one of the 29 pages) about the attraction. Was it Ryan's favorite? Everything is getting cloudy now . . .

Kris

Hi everyone,

I have the better option 1 logo, but the better option 3 is just going to be forgotten...oh well. :( Here are the logos again. Also, I have set up a voting site to make it easier. I know some people have already voiced their opinion, but we're going to start fresh; this way I can keep track of it easier! Please re-vote by using the voting link below. (If you've already voiced an opinion you are free to stick with your original choice or change your mind) :thumbsup2

P.S. I have some things to do tonight so I will be catching up on the posts tomorrow! :3dglasses

Hi!

We are on this cruise and would like to join the group!

We are myself (Pam), DH (Jeff) and our three children. Aaron (20), Alyssa (17) and Amy (12).

We are in cabins 6511 and 6507 and have second/late seating.

Would love to participate in the FEs. I am excited and have already started working on them. :)

Pam

Hi Pam, welcome to the group. I'm Tonya (34). I'm also going with my DH
(36) and our 2 boys (8 & 12).

This is our FE I made on the last cruise. I don't know how to sew so I just made it using that wonder under tape stuff. I think that's what it's called.

Does anybody have photoshop or know how to fix this to say Wonder instead of Magic?

MARIACHIMagic.jpg

Welcome Pam! :welcome:
I have added you guys to our website and to the FE list on page 2. We are so happy to have you guys joining us! As a side note, although he's your boy, I listed Aaron as an adult on the FE list (I think he will appreciate that) :rotfl2:

Tonya, I hadn't added you to page 2 yet, so I added you there as well. :thumbsup2 Also - Ryan and I have photoshop & GIMP (graphic design programs), but we are not able to change the words. I recommend that you post on the Creative DISigns board (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105) and ask if they can help. There are professional graphic design people who do stuff for free because they love Disney so much! It's work a shot ;)

Everyone: Thank you for the San Diego ideas! We still haven't decided on anything yet - we just don't know what to do! I think I will have to absorb everything and make a decision soon though, it's coming quickly!

Cari: Shirts would be a fun (and optional) idea for those who want to take advantage of it! Once we have a logo chosen, if you could find out pricing info from your contact that would be great! You can head this up :thumbsup2
About San Diego, when Ryan and I first met we went to Children's pool and walked around with a hot chocolate (at night). We found a lobster on top of a trash can by the water, and it was jacked up - if I remember someone had cut off it's head and set it up there. Gross! We like La Jolla, but because it's summertime hotels are OUTRAGEOUS there right now :sad2:

Kris: Legoland is so not for us! :rotfl: We don't have kids, and it doesn't really appeal to us like Disney does. My FAVORITE restaurant is in the gaslamp, I love going there! (Ryan doesn't though :confused3). He would probably go though since it's my birthday. Hmmm...I should consider that.

Thanks for the ideas!

Steve: I LOVE Julian! Ryan and I didn't tell anyone we were getting married. (Although we chatted online for a month or so, we got engaged 2 weeks after meeting face to face, and were married about 2 weeks or so after that...so, we got married at the courthouse and didn't tell anyone). Anyway, after our "marriage ceremony" we went to Julian! We love Julian (and Dudley's Bakery in Santa Isabelle). When we lived in Temecula we'd go the back way there all the time, just for the drive. But now it would be like a 4 hour drive from here! For that amount of time we might as well go to Vegas! :lmao: It's a good idea though, and something to keep in mind. Thanks for the thought!

Kris: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pretzel bread stick things at Le Cellier! Oh my goodness they are AWESOME! Also, if you know about the Le Cellier pretzel bread sticks (and love them like I do), then consider your points in tact ;) We also love the pastries in Paris, or, the chocolate mousse! It's so yummy! Have you eaten at Yachtsman? They having wonderful onion rolls! MMMM... Teppan Edo is another one of our favorites! My goodness - I could talk Disney food all day long!

About the Mexico Pavillion - yes, Ryan loves the three Caballeros and the Mexico boat ride. However, our favorite Around the World ride is the one (I believe Sue said) that their son didn't like. It's one of our favorites! It's at the Norway pavillion and it's called Malstrom. It's a little boat ride through trolls and areas of Norway, but turns into an adventure when the boat goes backwards down a hill! It rocks! :hippie:
