i was wondering if someone can help me with this. I have booked Disney wonder cruise from Galveston in December of this year. After I booked, I started doing some research and seems to find mix reviews regarding the trip. Our itenary is Galveston-cruise-cruise-Falmouth-Cayman-Cozumel-cruise-Galveston. Some reviews stated that it was a very rough sea during December of last year, the ship is falling apart and worn out. Some said it was great but nothing more than that. So if anyone can help me and let me know more about the trip, I will greatly appreciated.

PS we took the 4 nights dream last year and it was great.

Thank you in advance

We are on a Galveston cruise on the Wonder a few weeks after you (January 2017), on a different itinerary. So while I can't speak to the rough seas I can say that we were on the Wonder 6 months ago (end of September 2015) and she is a beautiful ship. I don't know how people can say she is 'falling apart' I call BS on that. She's getting some updates in dry dock before your cruise (but we don't know at this point what will be done), but I hope they retain the classic feel she has.

I tend to feel the motion so I wear seabands but am also coming prepared with Dramaine this time as well.

It's a different ship than the Dream. Smaller with more charm. Rough seas are possible. It is a December cruise so it will depend on storms. I'm not sure what you are asking exactly, but it is a Disney cruise so you will experience the same Disney touches and service you received on the Dream.

I've taken one of the Galveston cruises on the Wonder. I really liked the ship- yes, older than the Dream- but much easier to get around and a much more relaxed atmosphere. The weather is definitely a variable. Our cruise last December had some pretty strong rocking motion as we came back to Galveston; however, it was nothing compared to the rough seas that we had on our Alaskan cruise several years prior. If Disney comes back to Galveston in fall/ winter 2017 I will be on the ship!

We did the Bahamian cruise out of Galveston in December 2013 and a Bahamian cruise out of port Canaveral in January 2015... For November 2016, we’re going back to Galveston on the Bahamian cruise again. We’d have chosen the other itinerary out of Galveston to try something different, but the dates didn’t work out.

We did prefer the wonder to the fantasy though. It wasn’t really one particular thing, and I was honestly expecting to prefer the newer/bigger/ better ship. Other than the aqua duck and the mid ship detective agency, I don’t miss anything on the wonder. It seems that the new ships hold twice as many people, but the common areas are more like 50% bigger, so things seemed busier and more chaotic all the time. I don’t know if the numbers really work out that way, but that’s the way it felt. While you can tell the ship is older, it’s maintained in tip top shape, and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference in staterooms in my experience.

As far as rough seas go, the very last night of our cruise across the gulf to Galveston was pretty rough and you could feel it, but the rest of the time the motion didn’t bother us on the slightest.

The port in Galveston is certainly not as nice as Disney's terminal in port Canaveral... Really no way to argue that any other way, but that didn’t factor too much in our decision. I guess it makes stepping on board seem that much nicer :P
