So the Wonder went to and from Castaway Cay yesterday. It is heading back today. I wonder if this is to save portage fees or because they are facilitating work?

Most likely to carry supplies and possibly crew there, she will remain at anchorage probably for at least 14 days to gain the Green status the CDC requires before the ship can re-enter port to begin the process for the CSC under the new Framework

How far away is Castaway from Port Canaveral? It’s obviously very close but I wonder how fast the Wonder was going to make it a one day trip

It's about 225 miles. The ship generally makes it in about 12 hours (overnight), but it could take less time, depending on how fast the ship runs.

Actually the Wonder left Port Canveral on Sunday and arrived Monday early and departed again later that afternoon and arrived at PC anchorage early this morning (Tuesday) so it wasn't a same day trip.

I have to wonder if the Wonder is taking supplies to Castaway Cay for upgrades or repairs. It would be a good time to do that because it will be at least two months before any passengers will be there.....if not longer.

Typically the ships will ferry supplies for the island during there normal schedule. Seeing how all 4 ships have been in Europe for 2 or 3 months they can also use the island as a break for the crews that are still on the ship. I know after the normal drydocks the Capts will do something special to give the crews some time off. For example, when the Magic came out of drydock in 2010, the first trip to Key West, the ship stayed in KW until 230am as opposed to the normal 5 or 530pm. This was to give the crew a break and thank you.

Probably. Havent been to Serenity since 15. What happened to it?
Hurricane Dorian (2018) really washed the sandy beach out into the cove area. The beach is now very narrow, where some spots are barely 4 lounge chairs deep (waterline to treeline). Dredging and depositing the cove sand onto the beach is one remedy with heavy construction equipment (dozers, etc.) moving the sand into place. Obviously, not the "supplies" the Wonder can bring to the Cay. We were last on CC Jan 2020 and it was a huge shock to see what was left of the beach area on SB.

Hurricane damage

Gotcha. Thank you.

My ex wife's uncle knows the head of the construction company that built CC pier. And probably the island structures also. Being a US based company if they or another US based company has a retainer or contract they may or may not be able to go over and dredge. Just based off the Bahamaian changing rules. I'd think that since it's an isolated island, and serviced from the states they'd be able to fix it relatively quickly and easily.

When we were on Castaway right before the Shutdown in March, they had a dredger/dredging machine out in the family beach area that they were clearly using on days with no ship in port. (We asked one of the Crew members about the machine and they confirmed.) I hope they've been able to continue the work around the island. Serenity really was in rough shape.

Wow, that is great news that Disney is using the time wisely for construction and refurbishing. Our next cruise is booked for May 2021. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal (as far as CC is concerned)!
