Disney Wonder - Alaska - August 17, 2015

My DS is 13 too...maybe we can have them correspond via email and get to know/introduce each other pre cruise? We did that last time with a few boys in our FE group and it was nice for them to meet once we got on the ship.

Ok...We are in.

My DS is 13

I talked this over with my DS and he thinks it's a great idea to get to know someone before our trip. Send me a private message and we can exchange the boys emails. I'll tell you upfront mine is not a big conversationalist and he doesn't email a lot either.

We are joining you! First Disney Cruise - 3rd Alaskan Adventure.
Husband and Wife with 3 year old daughter (who will be in the Kids Club) - any of your children love little ones? We'd love to get her a buddy.
and Wife's Parents

Celebrating: 3rd birthday - DD's, 60th bday - My Mother's, 35th wedding anniversary - My Parents.

I know someone already said they would head up this Fish Extender group but then disappeared off the thread. Are any of you ready to get this going? I am so excited to start getting my "prizes" together that I can't stand it but need to know how many people and rooms. Does anyone want to start this group? If you have done this before, ideas would be good or I am willing to read others rules and steal them. Lol. Let me know your thoughts or do we just wait?

A quick check of the posts and I think we have 11 cabins and 37 people listed. I will do what I can to get a spreadsheet up quickly. Sorry for the delay.

Hi everyone
New to board and disney cruise. We just booked this today and I heard about the fish extenders I think this is awesome and would love to participate. 2 questions though

1. Since we booked now they said we don't have cabin assignment until a few weeks prior. Can we still participate of we don't know our cabin number until a few weeks before?

2. Do you give a swap/gift to each cabin once throughout the stay or once per day?

thanks everyone!!! So excited!!!

Welcome!

Easy answers! Many people won't know their cabins until the day of the cruise.

1) Normally we meet up in the Promenade Lounge around 3pm to meet everyone, put faces to names and while we are at it we get new cabin numbers in case of unknown or upgrades

2) Just once per cruise. The only big choice whether you give one gift per cabin or per person.

Hi Jim,

Thanks so much for responding. How do we register? What information do we need to provide and where?

Thanks so much!
-Cris

Thanking some advise from the pros to step up the game.

For those who are new to DCL here is the basic info on FEs -

FE basics

And some examples -

FE examples

To register for it normally just post your first names (or nicknames) and your cabin(s) number. If you wish you can also provide ages, special occasions that you are celebrating or special characters.

Example:

Jim (Drac) - Stitch, Chip & Dale
Amy DW - Tiger
cabin 6132
Retirement from 20+ years in Navy and Navy Reserves

Please be cautious about posting any private information.

Jim

Here you go along with some basics for FEs.

BTW, for all participating we are already at 40 people. Normally around 50 there is a vote to divide the FE into smaller groups. This allows people who can't afford or have time to make gifts for 75 to 100+ people. I would guess right now at just under 5 months to go that I wouldn't be surprised if we hit 75 to 100 people.

Now just because there are smaller groups doesn't mean you can't gift to everyone. We've been in this size before and we gave to all.

Jim

sounds terrific! We are definitely in.

Cris (me-mom) - eeyore, alice
Paul (dad) - grumpy
Sara (daughter - 7) - princesses and fairies
Bea (grandma) - Bambi and minnie

Thanks so much for organizing this. So excited!!!

Jim...if we do split the group into smaller groups my group of three cabins would like to be separated if possible. Would be more fun that way.
Thanks

Thanks, Jim, for handling the logistics.

Yes, I would vote to cap this group around 50. Besides helping control cost, I'm mostly just anxious to get started on my FE gifts and am hoping the first wave closes out soon so I can get stared. I think it's a great idea, though, that people could choose to participate in any future waves (groups) if they wanted, too- it's nice to provide people flexibility.

Is it being left up to each person whether to give per cabin or per person, or is that something we'll decide as a group? If it's up for vote, I like leaving it open to whatever each person prefers.

Lastly, I haven't been able to open the spreadsheet you sent... are others having trouble too? Or maybe it's just me :-)

Let me know if anyone else has an issue. May have to email it. Please do not post your personal email on the public forum. If you wish for me to email please PM.

As for per person or per cabin, it has always been up to the persons giving the gifts. Never been a mandate that I know of but there are people who have taken way more cruises then me.

One vote for capping the current group at 50 and starting a second group. I will say that it has been my past experience that even if it is small FE group that it ends up being multiple as there are always late comers that form a small group. Normally the FEs shut down about 30 days before the cruise (depending on the participants) to allow for people who make FE gift time to finish them all.

Jim

Thanks for taking the lead on a FE for your cruise. It looks like you have ideas about doing this and may not need any suggestions ... but here is an example how the 5/25 - 5/31 DVC Alaska Cruise is managing their FE - http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=51702493&postcount=5 - Johnny Quest just has a link to the FE information in his DIS Signature and that post then has the updated FE information. This way everything is transparent and easily found and confirmed (or corrected) by those participating. A number of cruises are already doing this or something similar - here is another example how one cruise is using the new DIS software to distribute their FE information so that everyone has easy access - http://www.disboards.com/threads/apr-19-2015-western-caribbean-jamaica.3199257/page-11#post-53098487 . The "Upload" option may be found at the lower right corner of this conversation. You can upload pdf documents securely as the only ones who will have access are the usernames you choose to send it to. Using upload nothing would need to be posted on the boards.

Of course, you do not need to do anything elaborate. The most important thing is for everyone to have fun - including the organizer! :)

For those who are new with only a few posts, they will not be able to use the PM system until they reach 10 posts. You might suggest to them that they go to the DIS Technical Support/Test board where they can quickly and easily post some one word (or one letter) posts to get their count up to 10.

Once you have 10 posts, you will be able to send a PM (now called "Conversation"). There will be a link at the upper right on every page to your "Inbox" and you can click on any username and a link to "Start a conversation" will be available. In addition, you will then be able to upload images and have links in your signature.

I hope this helps!

As you may be aware, we are not allowing links (or other suggestions) to FEs on other sites and would like to encourage them to be done right here on the DIS where they began years ago.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

I am also having problems opening the link to the FE spread sheet.

My entire group may not be actually participating in the actual Fish Extenders. When will the cutoff for numbers be?
