Hi! I need all the help and advice I can get.
My husband is currently deployed to afghanistan. He will be home to visit for 2 weeks in november and wants to take myself and our two boys to disney. I just realized that MVMCP is going on while we will be there and I want to buy tickets so we can go as this is one thing we have never done AND we plan on celebrating christmas early since he will be home and I can not think of a better way to do it!
I am looking for all the helpful tips and advice I can get to make this a stress free and enjoyable evening. Our boys are 9 and 5. Is there certain things we should do right away upon arrival? Should we eat before we go? Is there a restaurant that maybe has nice christmas decorations? Any information would be great!
Also, I was thinking about bringing a small christmas tree so we can exchange a few gifts in our room at the contemporary, is this a crazy idea? or should i do it lol
I just want our trip to be perfect, Thanks

I don't really have any advice but from a former marine and a marine wife, Semper Fi! Enjoy your family time!

Fellow USMC wife here! My DH will be going to Afghanistan next year for 7 months, and we plan to go to WDW with our boys (their first trip!) on his 2 week leave prior to leaving. I think you guys are going to have a GREAT time.

No, it's not dumb to bring a tree and open presents in your room. I think that's a wonderful idea.

MVMCP seems like a fun event, but be aware that once you purchase tickets, they are NON REFUNDABLE. I know how stuff goes with R&R leave...DH had one last year when he was in Iraq, and the dates got changed THREE times within one month of his "original" R&R dates, so beware! I'm not sure I'd make a commitment to MVMCP, just due to the non refundable ticket issue... and just know that those party nights at MK are EXTREMELY crowded. Might not be what your DH needs/wants at this time. When my DH came back from Iraq last year (he was there 10 months), for awhile, he didn't like being places that were OVERLY crowded, like throngs of people everywhere...it made him nervous and uncomfortable. Just thought I'd share that.

But, to also answer your question about which restaurant in MK would be most "festive", I'd say Liberty Tree Tavern. For dinner, it's an all you can eat family style "Thanksgiving-type feast". They serve turkey and ham (or beef brisket), stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese, and apple cobbler a la mode for dessert! If your DH will be also missing Thanksgiving, this would make up for it!

Anyway, have a great trip! Sounds like a perfect way to bond as a family. :grouphug:

LOL - I am in the same situation! My Dh is in the Navy and currently in Iraq - having his 2 week R&R in Feb now and I am trying to make this a perfect trip... it isn't easy! I am going to keep an eye on your thread and see what others have to suggest...
