Disney with an Infant?

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are considering a trip to WDW this coming January with our daughter, who will be 8.5 months old. I know she'll be too little to enjoy or remember any of it...it's really a trip for us But I'm curious as to which rides we would be able to take her on. Are there any restrictions on taking a small child on rides that don't have height requirements?

Also, for anyone whose gone with an infant, any other tips??

MGM is great park for real little ones..like the Movie Ride..no problem..you could take her in there. Muppet 3 -D...you're just sitting, I'm sure she'd enjoy that.they are always in awe of the sights and sounds. Mermaid attraction would be another nice attraction..both in Epcot..and MGM. There are many, many things you can take an infant on. Of course I'm referring to the attractions...not...roller coaster type rides. Even Peter Pan in MK...or Small World..little ones love that sort of thing. Especially at 8 mos. she's not going to have that whole fear of the dark yet. We took my son from when he was an infant..and we went on everything the older kids went on....aside from the thrill rides. It's actually not a bad age to take them, as they aren't walking yet..so you won't be running after her like you will the following year...go and have a good time!

I'm glad you asked this. I was wondering the same thing, expect next year if we go, my son will be a few months past a year old.

We took our DS 10 months at the time in October 2000. We took him on tons of rides like the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Great Movie Ride, Back Lot Tour, Dumbo, Carousel, It's a Small World, and many others. We also loads of shows like Muppets, Voyage of the Little Mermarid, etc. It's really going to depend on your little one. If she doesn't like loud noises, then I'd avoid Indiana Jones, Lights Motors Action and other things like that. We also used Baby-swap to the fullest. If your unsure about something, just ask a cast member and they'll tell you what the ride/show is like and if they think it's suitable or not.

True, your child won't remember it, but you will. Some of our fondest Disney memories were from that particular trip. DS was so wide-eyed and just in awe of Goofy!!

We took our little guy when he was just 4 months. My entire family went, including the two neices who were 5 and 8. The baby was by far the easiest to care for! We took our own stroller so he would be comfortable and bought one of the spray bottle fans. I tied it to the tray on his stroller and he cruised in style! He slept while the older girls complained when they got tired!

We did the basics like Pirates, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion etc and he was great! He loved all the colors on Poohs ride. By the way...we hit Hall of Presidents in time for his nap and he snoozed the entire time. Although, I am always so nervous about interrrupting a show, so that one can be tough to plan for.

We are going this September. Eli is now 3 and his baby brother will be 16 months. We can't wait!!!

We brought my DD at 6 weeks this past December. She was a breeze at the parks and could ride pretty much everything my then 2yr old could ride. She was still waking up every 2-3 hours to nurse so we took it slow (and I had a c-section 6 weeks earlier-lol) but the baby centers in each park were great too. My advice is to take it slow- you won't see everything but you will have some great baby book pictures! We are going back in August and she will be 9 months then.

When my DD6 was 5 weeks old, we decided to make a trip while I was on maternity leave. I also had had a c-section and was breast feeding. We also went to Sea World and some malls. Every place really was great for breast feeding moms. I wish Virginia was like that. All the bathrooms had a small area with a chair or something. Seaworld had Infant Stations. With rooms and changing table and even so items you may need if you forgot them. WDW also has the same type of areas. The best one is off main street in Magic Kingdom. We rode just about 80% of the rides. You are not very restricted since Disney has always been so that everyone can ride. Just like Walt said when he built Disney Land. He thought of it and built it because of taking his daughter to the parks and having to watch and not being able to ride himself. He wanted a park that everyone could enjoy.

I took DD on Pooh, PeterPan, It's a Small World, the list is pretty much endless. No issue from me and my DS had a good time with his new sister. His first trip was at 1 and he felt like he was showing her the ropes. Did a lot of character things also which was great having Newborn pictures with the characters. Then went back when she was 10 months and added the cruise to that trip. Had great time.

we have gone a number of time with both kids when they were tiny infants and such. I used the bjorn quite a bit- not sure if yours is too big at that age (i had one that it would have worked, and one, not so much). Basically any ride that you can have them on your lap works great. Also, keep in mind if it is hot- to utilize the baby care center to get some air conditioner breaks, a drink for baby or you can feed them. I bought lots of those toddler meals and heated them up at that age and did it at the baby care center to get away from the heat and use the highchairs. The only thing that can present a challenge can be eating. If baby falls asleep inthe strolller when it is time to eat- there are some TS places that don't allow you to bring the stoller in and we had to rethink our plans.
