Disney with a service dog

Sorry if this thread has been posted already but was seeking information from some people who may have travelled to Disney with a service dog.

We are heading to Disney in June with my medical alert dog Disney (golden retriever). We have her noted on our reservation. We are staying at POP and have requested a preferred room (ground floor so that pottying her will be convenient). We are bringing necessities for her (working gear, documents from vet and healthcare team, food, water, toys etc) but wanted tips or tricks for doing Disney with a SD. Good thing is that we are driving so we can bring her crates (she has one for the car and one for the room) and anything else we may need.

Figured I would ask my fellow DISers here for any advice. Thanks guys you're the best!

I have started getting her used to wearing boots to protect her paws. We also got some paw butter with sun protectant as well. Good idea!

Definitely dog boots. The hot pavement is brutal on paws. Make sure you have a water dish to bring into the parks with you. Stop at guest services in the park to get a map which will show you where SD potty areas are. If you look on Disneys website under their guests with disabilities sections they will tell you which rides he can go on. There are actually a lot. For ones your dog cannot go on or you choose not to take him on I recommend using rider pass where your party goes through the line together, one or two of you wait with the dog and then when the return you switch places. They do have crates at the rides available if you feel comfortable using one. A cast member waits at the crate by your dog until you get off the ride. Since it sounds like your dog is used to being in a crate that may be acceptable to you. I wasn't comfortable doing that so we did rider switch. Be prepared for lots of people wanting to pet.

Did you REQUEST a preferred room or BOOK a preferred room? It is my understanding that they won't (generally) put you in a preferred room unless you pay for it.

One thing I noticed was that I sometimes forgetful about Cash's dinnertime with all the exciting things to do all day so I'd pack a "lunch/dinner" for him so he could enjoy a dinner "out" too, without having to return to the resort in the middle of evening activities...

Good idea! We were going to return to the resort for Disney to have her dinner but I think we'll just pack it and take it with us. That way she can enjoy dinner "out" with us as well

Found it! Search in this forum (disabilities) for "figment service dog pop" and limit to after August 1, 2014. They stayed at Pop too! HTH.

I thought it might just be a mistype, but it has come up here before (people requesting "chargeable" room types, without realising it, and being disappointed), so I wanted to mention it.

Musher's Secret is best. Dogs can get Heat Exhaustion due to boots. Boots are bad down here in Florida. Every single Disney K-9 and Orange County Sheriff K-9 uses Musher's Secret.

Me being an SD Trainer why do you need a crate for a Medical Alert SD? A crate defeats the purpose of a Medical Alert SD. Should always be next to you wearing a seat belt and should sleep near you and never crated.

Tuesday-Saturday go to the Boardwalk and your SD can relax on the patio. Opens at 9PM is a very excellent Video Night Club. It is where Tink and Cinderella or Tink and Honey relax after a hard day of training for Cinderella or Honey. Tink is a TBI SD.
