Disney with a Newborn?

Hello,
My wife and I had a trip planned for December '09 with our DD (will be 6) and DS (will be 4). We found out that we'll be adding another D(?) on October 1st! Very exciting! Has anyone taken a two month old to the WDW? Our res is at the CR. How did it go?

I have never done it personally (I have gone while pregnant though) but I have seen MANY young babies there. It absolutely can be done! Good luck and have fun!!

I'll be taking 5 month old twins on my trip in August, and if I weren't so confident they'll sleep more often than they fuss, I'd be putting off our trip a few years. I'm definitely interested in what people have to say about their experience with infants.

We took our 3 month old son mainly because we needed a break from the New England winter. We had a blast the ability of the newborn to sleep anywhere works to your benefit. Plus, that time of year you don't need to worry about the heat.

We had a great time with our DS when he was 3 months old. We are taking our newest addition, our DD, when she is around 2 months old. It is definitely easier when they are not walking and like to be held.

You will be fine, and Congrats on the new addition! We took our middle child who is now 5 when he was 3 months old and he did wonderfully. We used our stroller with the carseat attachment, closed up both the shade to the stroller and the one on the carseat and had a fan set on the inside by his feet. the temp inside his stroller was cooler than it was outside. We went in October hoping for it to be cooler than the summer months, and it was but not too terribly much.

Remember the baby center is your friend, and set your pace at a reasonable speed and you will have a wonderful time with your new addition.

The biggest question (once I am sure I have enough time available from work) is how to get there....flying$$$....or driving...hmmm pre-baby we were driving.

We took dd at 4 mo old. It was great. We had a fantastic time. She slept, we toured. We took used the infant carrier that attached to our stroller which was great for taking her in shows and restaurants while she slept, and also nice for the total sun coverage.

We took our twins last fall when they were 3 months old. The hardest part is the extra gear...big stroller, carriers, diapers, formula/bottles if you need them. But the babies were very good. They went on many of the rides!

I highly recommend it, we took sons 4, 2 and almost 3 mos. old last year and it was wonderful!! We took full advantage of the time he slept and played with the older two on the parks, used the great baby centers, it was so easy!! I would do it again in a heart beat. Our "baby" is now 20 mos. and he's been to Disney twice..can we say SPOILED? LOL!! Have fun!!

I took my son to DL last year at six months and we had no problem's at all. He went on some rides and never made a peep. I recommend that you have a stroller that lay's back for naps and a big clips with a extra long blanket to clip around the stroller. Take the essentials and you wont have a problem at all.

We took DS9 at 4.5 weeks and for the most part, it was fine. He did get a little congested at one point due to thermostat wars with mousekeeping, so overprotective mommy that I was (am!), I took him to CentraCare (not sure if this is still the name; it's on 535 just outside of The World). After waiting for a long while, I was told that they didn't treat babies younger than 8 weeks old. This may have changed, but just a heads up. At any rate, my mother convinced me that he just had a little cold and within a few days he was much better. Taking the baby was a nice change from the fast paced touring I'd been used to doing. The one thing you may want to consider is that SOME peditricians suggest you don't expose a child that young to that many people. That is sort of peak RSV age and peak RSV time of year. Since you (I'd assume) have a peditrician, why not talk to them about what they see as risks.

But logistically, small kids are pretty easy - light enough to put in a carrier and carry all day, or they will sleep in a stroller all day. If you breastfeed you don't even need to bother with bottles. And their diapers are still tiny compared to the diaper bag you hall around with a two and a half year old. Make sure to have a physical sun blocker - even in December the sun can be bright and its generally advised that babies that young don't use sunscreen.

I've seen lots of people in the parks with very young babies. My son's preschool teacher took a three week old and they had a wonderful time. I think as long as you're not all going to be in one room, it's doable. You're definintely going to need space for the younger ones to sleep uninterrupted by the baby's nighttime feedings, etc. Otherwise, just adjust your expectations and have a wonderful time.

My twins were older when they went for the first time, 10 months old. It was fine. I will say, one thing that made it easier was having my in-laws in the cabin next to ours. They didn't babysit, but they were there if something happened. And one day, we hired a babysitting service so that we could take our older child out to the parks. The service required two sitters because they weren't walking yet, but it was worth every penny.

I don't have a strong opinion about taking small babies either way. I think it depends strongly on the baby. Some babies at five months are so easy-going. Others don't adjust to change and are easily over-stimulated. Most likely, you're babies will love it. I will say that I've seen many uncomfortable babies at Disney during the hotter months and I wouldn't take them at that time. Imagine being in a stroller or a sling in 95 degree weather with all that humidity.

It was definintely much easier to take the twins at 10 months than at 22 months, when all they want to do is exactly what THEY want to do. Our trip this past December was most . . . unmagical. Hopefully they'll be more up to travelling this December.

My DD turned 8 weeks the first time she was there - it was right after Thanksgiving. It was so easy! Didn't have to worry about 'nap time', she easily slept wherever. I was nursing, so I didn't have worry about finding water, etc. to feed her. We used hand sanitizer on our hands before we touched her, so she wasn't germy (now at 2, it surely isn't that easy!! - she touches everything!)). Also, she didn't get scared of anything! And, she did have a great time. My mom has a wheelchair, and she ALWAYS had to be looking forward to watch everything - if you turned her around she would fuss - she wanted to watch!

I am so glad that someone started this thread before I got to it. I am having a little girl due in July and we are planning her first trip for January. We've had several friends say that this would be a good time. She won't be wanting to be carried, she won't be getting into everything very much yet. I'm wondering about what attractions could we take her on. I've only been to WDW as an adult and have very little concept as far as what it will be like for a 6-month old baby to be going on what. Any insight?

we took our 1 month old last summer and it was a blast. The only thing that was a pain in the tush was the stroller/car seat combo. Taking that on and off the bus was a pain. We are leaving in 2 weeks and she is now 10 months and will be using a regular stroller so it should be easier. Congrats on the new little one on the way. We are due with #3 in August and will most def. will be planning a trip shortly after
