Disney with a Newborn?

I am so glad that someone started this thread before I got to it. I am having a little girl due in July and we are planning her first trip for January. We've had several friends say that this would be a good time. She won't be wanting to be carried, she won't be getting into everything very much yet. I'm wondering about what attractions could we take her on. I've only been to WDW as an adult and have very little concept as far as what it will be like for a 6-month old baby to be going on what. Any insight?

She could go on most of the rides, except the big ones. There are more rides they can go on than not. MK - not the mountains, Epcot - not Mission Space, Test Track, Soarin, AK - Dinosaur, Primevil Whirl, Studios - RRC, ToT. I think that's about it. There is MORE than enough to do w/o the headliners. My DD will be 3 in Sept, and hopefully in Aug we will be going for what will be her 4th trip. It is so much fun when they are little, and I figure they are only little once, and it makes me SO happy to watch her and her reaction.

The one thing you may want to consider is that SOME peditricians suggest you don't expose a child that young to that many people. That is sort of peak RSV age and peak RSV time of year. Since you (I'd assume) have a pediatrician, why not talk to them about what they see as risks.

But logistically, small kids are pretty easy - light enough to put in a carrier and carry all day, or they will sleep in a stroller all day. If you breastfeed you don't even need to bother with bottles. And their diapers are still tiny compared to the diaper bag you hall around with a two and a half year old. Make sure to have a physical sun blocker - even in December the sun can be bright and its generally advised that babies that young don't use sunscreen.

I consulted my pediatrician when I was planning my trip. I explained that the baby would be seven weeks old and asked him his opinion and he stated " Mom may not be up to it but the little one will be fine, and you know my number if you need anything."
We were both fine. Had a great time as a mater of fact. I did however wear DD in a sling most of the time which seams to stop uninvited strangers from trying to touch the tiny ones. It also blocked the sun.

You will need to carry your infant quite often. You cannot take a stroller into most restaurants or attractions. I recommend you get a sling or other soft baby carrier to make your life and your trip easier. My DD spent most of 2 trips in one. You can take her on any ride that does not have a height restriction. You will have a great time just go with the flow.

The only thing I would suggest it to not use the car seat portion of the travel system as babies shouldn't be in their car seat all day long for that length of time. It is bad for their spine development. Other then that make sure your stroller reclines all the way and you have something to cover the baby from the sun.

I agree and disagree. We took DS#2 when he was 9 weeks (ie much too young to sit in a highchair) and it was wonderful to be able to bring him into restaurants in the car seat. I know that some people do bring their strollers right into restaurants, but frankly it's a PITA to try to navigate around all of the obstacles (including other people's strollers) - the tables are packed in pretty tight! Having said that, I agree with not leaving the baby in the car seat all day. Outside of meal times (or times when he had fallen asleep in the car seat), he was in the ring sling or stretchy wrap, with the occasional "stretch out on a blanket" break.

Congratulations!!

My youngest was 5 weeks old for her first WDW trip. She is now 2.5 and has 4 trips under her belt, lol.

We didn't have any problems, I wore her in a carrier for most of the trip and just took a blanket to cover the infant seat/highchairs in the restaurants.

We did get a lot of stares and a lot of comments because she was so young (or maybe it was because we had our other 3 dks aged 4.5, 3 and 2 in tow).

I recommend a soft carrier since they are a lot easier to transport.

I would never do it, but my neighbour just did and she said the baby slept most of the time in the stroller, and the only thing she didnt like was having to go back to the room early. Good Luck
