Hi

just booked to go to POFQ for two weeks next May - our daughter will be 2 and a half then. Can anyone on here reassure me / recommend how to deal with the long flight and time difference? (I know she'll be fine on rides as we did Paris this summer and she loved it)

thanks in advance!!

We went to disney with our twins who were 23 months! No problem what so ever, they didnt have seats but yours will so flight will be fine, ours watched the tvs and i have new toys and treats for them.

I made sure we did everything the same time as here so at 7.30pm here they would have a milk bottle for bed, at 7.30pm in disney they had the same so not to ruin the routine we have but they would have it in the stroller and fall asleep

Dont worry the place is perfect for kids, take reins or something as ours didnt want to stay in the stroller.

i suppose it depends on the child, but both of our kids weren't much of a problem on flights (and they flew on many many many flights from birth through toddlerhood)...

i always took plenty of snacks for the flight and lots of little age appropriate things to keep them busy...
whatever it is you think your daughter would like...colouring book and crayons, dolls, whatever..
i would buy them new things and wrap them up, so that they got to open it on the plane...
and lots of little snacks - pretzels, biscuits, whatever you know your daughter will like....

when my son was two, he was occupied for what seemed like hours by the little wet towel the flight attendants hand out...he used that little towel to wipe down the windows, wall, seats etc......he just kept wiping everything down....

if you're on a night flight, your daughter will probably sleep, which should eat up some of the time...

does your airline offer special children's meals? some airlines do and that can be nice for kids...

as for the time difference...our kids tended to fall asleep earlier in the evening and wake up early...but that was actually a good thing - it enables you to get to the park for rope drop....
in any case, you'll have your daughter in a stroller, so she can fall asleep whenever she wants... :)

We have taken Chloe every 6 months since she was 9 months old - now 3 1/2! She has always been fine on the flight - lots of small toys and last time couple of times we have taken films on the iPad plus games for her.

Coming home she mainly sleeps :thumbsup2

Time difference never really been a problem going just keep her up till her usual bed time here the first night (around 8pm) then on just go with the flow :goodvibes

Never stuck to our home routine as its holiday - but she always naps of an afternoon for a good hour and half at least then she is happy to go till late into the evening for fireworks and parades :thumbsup2

One thing we have found that really works well is to have our main sit down meal at lunch time on the first day. After that we go back to evenings. :)

We took our little one this past sept, she was 25mths old and did brilliantly!

We were a little concerned how she'd do, mainly with the heat and pace of the holiday but turns out had no reason to.

We took a little Disney trolley bag for the plane which she loved dragging around the airport, and filled it with colouring bits, one of her fave cuddlies, some new little toys and some snacks. She slept quite a bit, devoured most of the snacks and spent the rest of the time just happily watching what was going on around her.

The flight home she fell asleep before take off and only woke about an hour before landing. She then slept again the 2 and a half hr drive home, before going to bed 4pm that evening and not waking again til 12am the next day! Was still surprisingly straight back in her normal routine that night.

Time difference wasn't an issue at all.

Enjoy! :)

We went when my youngest was 18 months and she was fine on the plane took little things for her and a few snacks and she fell asleep after 5 hours for a bit

We are going in may next year and she will be 3 and half so am hoping she will be ok we got those portable DVD players that keep them busy and iPad which will help

Also when we went our plane was 10 and half hours back as got diverted to Manchester from gatwick cause of snow and we had a 4 hour bus ride and all three of my kids coped ok and even the 2 hour journey home from gatwick

My son was 14 months old and the flight with him on my lap was a compete nightmare! I wish we had have bought him a seat! He took a day to adjust and after that he was no problem at all, I'm planning on taking him back ASAP so it couldn't have been too traumatic! As long as your little one has their own seat and there is more than one of you on the plane to keep em amused you will be ok! :)

We took our daughters last febuary, aged 21 months and 3.5yo and they handled the flight better than me. We took a portable dvd player and a selection of their favorite dvd's to watch, colouring in books and crayons and some books to read to them. Also have a wandser round the plan with your little one to break up the sitting still.

As for time changes and jet lag it didn't seem to bother them at all, wish i could say the same for the adults lol.

Benn there and done it in May and doing it again next month!! So its not that bad ;). Dd was fine and slept alot on the plane, we had ipad, stickers and snacks to get us through it. Didnt really noticenthe time change, they are ruled by bellies somjustbadd an extra dinner and it seems to adjust there internal clocks. Have fun :thumbsup2
