Disney Wish Food Is A Letdown?

My vacations center around food whether it’s the Disney parks, Non Disney trips, anything. For a cruise it’s especially importany because that’s a big part of the price.

Ive been watching and reading all the content from the Wish’s inaugural sailing and looking at current content (I’m researching for my first cruise, which ship has amazing food) yet I haven’t heard much talk about the food and how amazing it is. All I’ve heard was “It’s good”. Excuse me but good doesn’t cut it. If I want good I’ll go on a Carnival cruise.

Im starting to think the food so far is not that good? Am I the only one with that impression so far? Have I missed people raving about the food somewhere?

Well, too soon to tell. They aren't in normal operations yet. However, your is the first comment I've seen on food that wasn't positive.

Food quality is so relative. I have seen the adults who only eat chicken tenders, hamburgers, pizza and the occasional steak or those that think pasta carbonara is an "adventurous" choice lol They might have issues as the menus seem to lean into actual cuisine as opposed to children's food (though those items are still there). When perusing the menus, that was my first reaction. How are the simple eaters going to do with this?

Everything I've read so far is that the food has been an improvement from other DCL ships. People seemed especially happy with the on deck options since there is now a BBQ option and a mexican option similar to Chipotle.

Since most comments on the food and everything else about the Wish are from the media cruise, I am waiting for actually paid cruisers to post their experiences. This may take several weeks of posting in order to get a fairly clear picture of what cruisers consider outstanding, great, good, or nothing special.

Kind of surprised to read this. Disney food is mediocre at best across the board. Disney World food is sometimes quite good for theme park food, but no where near the level you can get at any good restaurant in any major city. If you want food oriented vacations, you can do a lot better than Disney. Disney is also not the best cruise line for food.

Food on a cruise ship with thousands of passengers is almost always going to be some version of "good". Some people might say it's fabulous, some might say it's terrible. I think it really depends on whether you are a serious foodie used to eating at fine dining restaurants or small locales with farm-to-table type of dishes, etc ... or whether you are a pretty average eater who isn't terribly fussed... and so forth. I've now spent 34 days onboard DCL with every night in the MDR and I can say I have never had what I would say was an "amazing" dinner. However I think I have had many "really good" and "solidly good" nights and a few "hmm that was average". MDR food isn't made to order, it's prepared by chefs who have to get hundreds of meals out at the same time, and quite likely they make educated guesses each night of how much to prep so that their work is streamlined. It's like a large wedding banquet or hotel conference reception.

I agree. I'll wait to decide once the ship has been online a few months with paying passengers. I don't really trust the media and influencers if they got onboard for free.

Let's turn it around:
What is your definition of amazing food?

And if you have never sailed before, how do you know Carnival food is 'good' ;-) CruiseCritic rates the food on Carnival's newest ship Mardi Gras as Excellent.
With 22 restaurants on Mardi Gras, you should be able to find something amazing.

To be honest, if you want amazing food and a cruise, I think you should search for ships who do not have fixed dining times like Disney has. If you need to feed a thousand people within 1 hour, then you are probably dealing with quantity over quality. (that's my assumption, anyway)

From everything I’ve read and seen, a lot of the rotating dining dinner patrons on ships like the Disney Dream have said it’s the best they’ve had. I saw a lot of Royal Caribbean videos where the dinner was a letdown. The wish videos I’ve seen either say the food Is good or skip the impressions of the food altogether and just show the venue.

Food opinions are so subjective. If you feel you have a refined palette and only like the best food, a cruise will probably not satisfy you. If you set the same dish before 10 people you will get 10 different reactions. I have been on 13 cruises (62 nights x 3 daily = 186 meals) meals) and had maybe 4 or 5 that I didn’t care for. They weren’t bad just not the best. They offer a variety of dishes so surely one should be suitable.

Doesn't answer my question: How do you define amazing food?
If we know what you find amazing we can help if a Disney cruise is a good idea for you to begin with. Where do you eat when you go to a Disney park, do you enjoy quick service meals, if yes, which ones? Or do you only eat at V&A during a Disney park vacation?

If you watch vloggers who cruise regularly on all lines say that Disney food is on par with other big cruiselines. Not better or worse.
Tony from La Lido Loca did his first Disney cruise earlier this year, people have told him that the food on DCL is amazing. To him it's equal in quality.

Having been a kitchen supervisor at a new restaurant opening, this is normal. I worked for Hard Rock Cafe, I was opening staff at their Munich restaurant. It took months for us to get every food item and evey menu item correct every day. With a new restaurant opening, not only are you learning new recipes and food prep procedures, you are learning new company procedures AND trying to work as a team with people you don't know.

The Wish has only just started sailing, the kitchen teams are still figuring things out. They havent even been sailing for a month yet, its grossly unfair to start complaining about food quality when the kitchen teams are still learning.

Food that tastes amazing. There is no specific thing to defining what’s amazing in food. It’s when you get impressions of the food and the majority response is “This food is amazing”.

EVERYTHING is subjective. I’m asking this question about how the food is in general the same way people read impressions of movies, rides, food etc. Like how Godfather is generally considered an amazing movie. That’s subjective but we generally consider it as fact that it’s an amazing movie. Pirates of the Caribbean ride. There are people out there who hate it I’m sure. It’s subjective. But it’s still generally considered an amazing ride. Etc..

I have not been on DCL in awhile. I'm hoping Wish is better than RCL food. Which is pretty good if you pay extra for it, not so much if you don't.

Ok, without you wanting to tell us what you think is amazing... you will just have to wait.

There haven't been enough people on the Wish yet who have vlogged / blogged about it to get to an average opinion. Especially because these people who have been already are not the most reliable group as some where sponsered/gifted.

Plus as Tink mentioned, a new kitchen takes a while to get up and running. So if you want to go on the Wish, wait a couple of months.

Wait and there will be plenty of cruisers who say the Wish has the most amazing food ever.

Yeah looks like I’ll have to be patient. It’s tough because I’m planning my first cruise and the prices just keep rising. I’m debating between the wish and the Dream at this point, but not sure if the Wish is worth the premium yet.

I wouldn't expect the Wish food to be any better or worse than on the rest of the fleet. But I'm not judging them based on somebody else's opinion. I don't know their taste and they don't know mine.

Have you been on most the DCL ships? Any preference? Please share your opinion on the Wish when you get back!
