Disney Wish 4 night or Disney Fantasy 5 night

The Wish

Everyone who is recommending the Fantasy is not thinking of this answer for someone who is cruising for the first time. The Wish complaints are all based on layout and prefering a different ship if you had sailed on one before, very minor.
The food is better on the Wish, rooms look MUCH better, entertainment is great, castaway cay is fine for 1 day.

*EDIT: if your concern is running in full circles on the outdoor deck, not sitting too close to the dining table next to you, & not having an elevator right in the middle of the ship, then sure, pick the Fantasy*

Also, a verandah is a MUST. You dont realize it until you try it. Room is brighter, fresh air, the feel of being out on the balcony with the sun and ocean, especially if you want to have some seperate time from the kids, its really really nice.

Besides, if people think the Fantasy is better, wouldn’t it make sense to start with the Wish and enjoy it so when you sail the Fantasy you “upgrade”?
(Wish is better).
Bingo! Agree with everything you said.
Like I always say, Disney fans defend their favorite ships on these threads about like they defend their favorite resorts. Haha
New is new and dated but well maintained is still dated.

I have sailed on the Dream (Fantasy's older sister) and the Wish, all in verandah rooms.

Since it's you're first cruise, don't worry so much about the ship. You will enjoy either one and have a fantastic time. We didn't know what we didn't know on our first Disney cruise and have sailed 2x since and have a 3rd one booked, ironically on the Fantasy. :rotfl2: We picked that ship due to the 7 night itinerary over my birthday. Choose whichever one works in your schedule and go have a blast with your 'Cruising Crew' and enjoy yourselves.

That being said, if I were in your situation and had to pick, I would pick the 5 night Double Dip on the Fantasy, in the oceanview room because of 3 reasons; 1) Its a double dip to Castaway. 2) It's more days and 3) I would be able to mark the 3rd Disney ship off of my list, getting me halfway though the current fleet of ships.

For a first cruise choosing between a veranda or just an ocean view I would take the veranda. It does add so much more to your cruise without knowing it.

Choosing between a double dip to Castaway Cay or not, that is a tough one. How much do you like the beach is going to be the deciding point. Your first time to Castaway Cay will be fantastic! With a double dip, if one day you are unable to dock (which does happen, but VERY rarely!) at least you will have another day to try.

Is the Fantasy old and dated?
Well technically it is 12 years old so I guess it is old.

Is it dated?
The Wish and Fantasy are 2 completely different designs of ships. The Wish has more of a WOW factor with the Fantasy having a much more classic cruise ship feel. Yes the Wish is beautiful as it should be since it is new.
But is the Fantasy dated? That is really in the eyes of the beholder. Compared to the Wish? Well maybe but like I said they are 2 different designs.

If your 7 year old is going to the kids club, the Wish might have a slight advantage. We do not have kids that age but we took a tour of it and it looked fantastic! I can't say anything about the Fantasy since we have never toured the kids club on it.

As for the food being better on the Wish, we saw a definite decline in quality when the ships started sailing again after the shutdown but believe it has come back. I think it took the chefs a little time to get back in sink plus the fact of probably having a lot of new chefs took a toll on the food. But we may not be as finicky about the food as others.

We have done 21 cruises strictly on Disney (with 22 & 23 B2B coming very shortly on the Magic and 24 in June on the Wish) and yes we have seen many things we liked about the Wish. But we have also seen far to many things we have not liked. All of us that don't really like the Wish really wanted to love it when it came out but we see things past the glitz and glamor that do not bode well with us (and it is not nostalgia for the old ships).

Do we hate the Wish? No but we DEFINITELY do not like it.

But for you and a first time cruise, only you can decide if you want to sail on a classic ship with more time at the beach or do you want to go with the WOW factor of glitz and glamor of the new ship and have a veranda stateroom?
As much as I really hate to say it, I think the Wish with a veranda for your first cruise would be a great choice.
But you cannot go wrong with the Fantasy! And if you would chose the Fantasy, I would definitely recommend trying to come up with the extra for a veranda.

You're not thinking through this completely either, even for a first-time cruiser. There is a very real difference in your experience with an extra night on board and an extra day at Castaway Cay.

All of these comparisons between the two ships are mostly subjective. For example, I actually think the rooms on the Fantasy look nicer than the smaller rooms on the Wish. The big difference is the Disney IP in the rooms on the Wish, and believe me, if that mattered to me, I can stay at Art of Animation for far less. Give me the cleaner, elegant look of the other ships in the DCL fleet. But that's my opinion. Yours may be different.

Most of the consensus opinion here is that a five night cruise is better than a four night cruise. I think that's a solid opinion, and for a first time cruiser, a longer vacation sounds like a great choice.

The extra night is really nice i agree however the balcony room is a game changer, as is the better food.

Have we left you believing there is no one right answer? (at least not for everyone).
