Disney while pregnant

DH and I typically go to Disney annually and we have no kids...well, that's about to change pixiedust:, and (God willing) I will be about 20-22 weeks pregnant if we end up booking for mid-May.

This will be during the EPCOT Flower & Garden show, which I love, and I think we're aiming for a Star Wars Weekend, which DH will love.

If you have gone to Disney around this time in your pregnancy, what was it like? What rides did you go on? I'm assuming things like Pirates, Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise are just fine, but what else did you do? What about the Mine Train (which is new since our last trip in Feb 14)

I'm also worried about swollen feet and all that walking, but I'm a big walker as it is, so I'll just make sure I'm in extra walkin' shape before the trip. We both know this will be a much slower-paced trip than we're used too. More bench-sitting (and people watching), nice slow dinners, naps by the pool...so basically, more of a vacation than a typical Disney trip for us.

I went in July 08 when I was 24 weeks, it was fine.. other than me being more tired. Didn't go on any roller coasters or kilimanjaro safaris.. soarin was fine, no test track, I had no swelling other than on the plane going down and coming back.. I wore running shoes the whole time. (even with the summer heat I was fine)

I went at 30 weeks pregnant with my first daughter. I was a little more tired and my feet did swell. I took more breaks, and overall I was fine. Most of the roller coasters have restrictions for pregnancy so the Mine Train is probably out. I did get to experience many shows and attractions that are more tame. Just drink a lot of water and rest. I would also allow for pool time. That helps with swelling that you may experience.

I did Soarin' which doesn't have a restriction. The only ride I did with a restriction was the Safari and I sat in the front where it is less bumpy. I probably wouldn't have done that except I had been on the Safari numerous times and really the road in front of my in laws house is more bumpy than the Safari :) Just familiarize yourself with the attractions that have restrictions. You also might want to talk to your doctor about the trip to make sure she/he has no issues with you going.

Awesome, thanks ladies. That's kind of what I was thinking about for rides. Potholes make for more bumps than some of those rides!!

Not to be a downer but I would be ready with a contingency in case you can't go. We were scheduled to be there next week when I am 23w. At 19w I was diagnosed with placenta previa and told that there would be no travel for me. So, our long awaited and well planned trip was cancelled just 2 weeks before we were to leave for Florida. You never know what can come up. I've travelled before in a previous pregnancy between 20-24w and it was a great time to travel. I hope that things work out for you.

We traveled at 16/17 weeks with twins. I was hot and had to take a lot more breaks, but it was a great trip. It was 3 days at WDW (pretty commando)- 4 days on dream- 3 days back at WDW. The dream in between really did help since we are very go-go-go when in the parks. I had to skip all the big rides, but I got to see more characters than usual while my husband went on them. I was past morning sickness for the most part, but there was a very unfortunate incident on a bus at 1 am one night :rolleyes1. Luckily I had a plastic bag with me.

Hi! I went a lot during both of my pregnancies. My tips would be to drink LOTS of water, take LOTS of rest breaks, and my dr told me not to ride any ride that you would not take a infant on...that made it much easier to remember than a list of can do and can not do rides:) Good luck and have fun!

For both this pregnancy and the one before with DS, I am/was around 24-25 weeks when I was in Disney. They have a list of expectant mother advisories for the rides on WDW's website (look under accessibility and advisories while on the page with all the attractions). I think Disney is very pregnancy-friendly in that there is only a handful of rides that you shouldn't ride. Plenty of other things to do though so it's not a waste at all to go.

As for the walking thing, you really can't plan for how you will be feeling until you are actually there. I'm in great shape but the sciatic pain this time is nearly debilitating. We are just planning on getting me a wheelchair if necessary. Same goes for how fast/slow-paced your trip is. You could be completely exhausted and need to take many breaks or might have all the energy in the world and be getting as much done as you did before.

Loved Disney while pregnant! I was about 28 weeks, and it was great. I was in really good shape, exercising a lot, etc, and I think that helped. I made sure to stop for water at practically every counter service we passed and used the time while my party was going on the "mountains" to get in extra snacks and sitting time. The only thing that surprised me was that my legs were literally sore at the end of each day. Not swollen - just sore from carrying around my extra weight all day!

Have a great time. Just get lots of free ice water from the counter service places and take plenty of snacks in case you feel your blood sugar dropping!

Thanks for this advice. We are planning to get trip insurance for this exact reason. Saying a prayer for your current condition! Hope the next couple months are easy for you!

Congrats! Hubby and I are leaving in 4 days! :cool1: I'll be 20 weeks, so I can respond more appropriately when we get back. But since we're not going with the kids, and me being pregnant, we plan on taking it slow and enjoying the slower pace! As far as rides go, we plan on doing everything this is ok for a pregnant mom. Mine train is definitely out, I believe there's a pregnancy warning with this one. We had booked this trip before I got pregnant and was looking forward to doing the bigger rides with hubby....but oh well, lol. :) Have fun! Oh, May is horribly hot, remember to stay hydrated!

i went last may @ 24 weeks. like everyone else said, just moved at a tiny bit slower pace. Spent more time at the pool than normal- which was nice. we skipped all the rides with the restrictions-but i didnt miss it. We went shopping for the munckin :rotfl:

Shopping! That was fun. But other than that, I was pretty miserable during our trip this past August. I was 20 weeks along. It was so hot though. I will never do disney pregnant again....no really' got my tubes tied, lol! But, plenty of other women enjoy themselves. I hated not being able to do everything with my DH and kids. :sad1:

I went when pregnant and there was still a ton that I could do. The only downer was not being able to partake in adult beverages at Epcot.

Both my sister and I went when we were pregnant (two different trips) and both of us said we would never do it again. We both did have a small child with us as well, so that would obviously be more draining than going with just adults.

It was hot. I was miserable. I could not stand for long periods of time. I had to pee every 15 seconds. Etc... But, I am not a good pregnant person.

Meanwhile, my daughter's gymnastics coach is due next month and is still doing demonstrations on the beam. I'm sure she would do great at WDW!

Best of luck!

Did your travel insurance cover this? Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy!
