I was just wondering if there is any difference between making reservations on Disney's website or calling Disney directly?

Often times availability differs. Also rates differ, no discounts available online.

As far as discounts, some are available on line, you just have to access the reservation section through the "correct" button. For instance, the current code is availabe if you click the fall/holiday specials button.

Plus, I believe that when you book on-line your cancellation period is 45 days out, not 5 days, like by phone. That's why the majority of people just go ahead and do it by phone. BTW, as indicated by luvsTink, you can get the discount code by going through their discount link. Good luck.
