Hi, we just talked to a lady yesterday who said that if you are not used to florida water it will give you the Runs??? I spend a ton on Brita filter bottles and had planned on using them but now i'm wondering if this will all be a problem?? any help would be great, we leave to drive to FL on sunday.

I could be wrong but I don't think that will happen. When in WDW everyone is eating in restaurants way more often than at home so that seems to be a much more likely cause. The person you spoke with might have eaten something rich in WDW that bothered her but the water isn't filled with bacteria like in Mexico.

Personally, I don't like the taste of the water out of the tap and use bottled water even to brush my teeth but I've never been sick from it. Everything down there is cooked or washed using the water out of the tap so I can't imagine it being unclean.

I read on a recent thread on the DIS somewhere that most restaurants filter their water and I believe it because the water on the tables tastes completely different from what I get in the rooms. I'm sure whatever you got yourselves will be fine. I'm probably going to buy portable filters for our next trip.

I hope you have a awsome trip :woohoo:

LuvOrlando is right. The water tastes horrible (chlorine), but is as safe to drink as any municiple water.

We just returned and had no problem drinking the water what so ever. It didn't taste bad at all. It also saved us lots of $ because all you have to do is ask for it and they give it to you for free. We also put kool-ade in it.

Some people really hate the taste of the water; Crystal Light packets and similar add-ins help mask the taste. However, I've never heard of anyone getting sick from the water. For that matter, I bought Brita bottles and lugged them down there for our first trip, and ended up not needing them. We thought the water was different, but not so bad as to have to filter it or cover up the taste.

We just got back and I can say for sure the water was not nearly as bad as it has been in the past. In fact, the only time we couldn't drink it stright was at MK; it was perfectly fine in the other three parks. BTW, it is not chlorine that causes the water to taste bad, it is sulpher, but it is perfectly safe to drink.

We have drunk the water on 15 separate trips to WDW and have never gotten sick.

Water in some areas of Florida is high in sulphur which can have a laxative affect. It also stinks, which might make some people nauseous. :sad1:

yeah the water in Disney tastes pretty horribe. Been home about a week from our last trip, and the water still tastes bad, but we have never gotten sick from it. I would recommend only drinking the water to brush teeth, because to drink a cup of that water isn't a pleasant experience.

My sister claims that Orlando water makes her sick. :confused3 I don't know what we'll do in our coming trip. Carry a gallon for her? :confused3

One trip we stayed in the treehouse villas. I got sick-real sick. But the past few years trips have been fine. If you are sensitive to things like that i would drink bottled water only. Brushing your teeth or showering will not make you ill though. I have done this in 3rd worls countries and been fine. So i feel pretty safe in Florida.

although the water out of most water fountains in disney tastes horrible, we resorted to them because we were not going to pay for a new bottle every time we were thirsty. No one in my family got sick, so I'm pretty sure the water is safe!

You can bring along a few bottled waters and reuse them by refilling with a gallon of bottled water bought at the resort stores. I don't know about all of them but the stores in the Contemporary and the Wilderness lodge definately had them, at least they did a few years ago. You can always confirm by calling the resort directly, ask them to put you through to the store and asking a store employee.

When we used magical express this Feb. I split a 24 case of water between 2 pieces of luggage so it wouldn't be too heavy or break. We only had to carry the stuff to the airport because once there we checked it at the curb and had it delivered to my room. This may sound like a lot of work but the last time we were there it cost us $60/day for waters alone.

I might have used fountains instead of $60/day but I've never seen one, or noticed one anyway, in the parks.

This is different. At WDW, when they give you water at a restaurant they get it from the soda fountain, which if filtered. The bad water comes from the water fountains and tap. Some non-Disney places will give you tap water when you ask, that tastes bad.

During my last August trip, we had wegoshop deliver a case of bottled water. We would put several bottles in the freezer before we went to bed for the next day. You can carry around a small, soft lunchbox type of cooler. We put them in the bottom of our stroller.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the water...But those people have never been to where I live! I refer to our water as "hot dog water". :rotfl:

The water does smell funny - I think of it as smelling like "Florida" water. I lived in Florida for 9 years before we moved to Texas.

The water isn't contaminated or anything, it just smells and tastes funny. My Brita bottle worked very well last trip. I also found that I don't like fountain drinks with ice at the parks because as the ice melts it makes the drink taste like the water. I'll be sticking with the Brita and bottled soda next week. (Heh heh! Next week! :teeth: )

Before buying my Brita Fill and Go bottle, I used to drink the water inside WDW and in Kissimmee all the time. I hated the taste, but neither ever made me sick.

The water on-site is treated and has a metalic taste. Water off-site in Kissimmee has more of a sulfurous taste and odor, like the swamps from whence it comes, but it is still filtered and is perfectly safe to drink.

However, a few years ago I got my first Brita bottle, and the filters in that bottle completely remove the metalic taste from WDW water and the sulfur taste and smell from Kissimmee water.

Brita Fill and Go bottles are no longer made, but Culligan and Pur both make nearly identical products:

check out www.purewater2go.com

they have a water filter bottle that you can just carry with you. the filter is built into the bottle, just filter as you drink.

makes the water taste great!
