We are scheduled to leave for Disney on Sept 26th, with my parents. Monday night my dad had heart trouble. He had a pacemaker installed on Wednesday. Now he can't get travel insurance. We didn't know what we were going to do since even if he's ok to travel by then, we can't get insurance for him now to cover his heart since it happened so close to our arrival date. I highly doubt he's going to be ok to travel in 3 weeks as he's still in the hospital.

I called Disney Thurs to see what my options were. They cancelled their reservation at NO COST! They were absolutely wonderful!! They also provide travel insurance for pre-existing conditions so when we go again we know we can get insurance for him when we rebook directly thru Disney.

So my DH, DS & me are still going, but now we have piece of mind that my parents didn't lose all that money. We didn't buy travel insurance for cancellation so we thought we were out everything, but now my parents will have a credit on their credit card for the full amount (minus the exchange). They will loose the flight but it was a cheap flight. I'm going to call airtran this week & see what my options are. Even if I end up with some type of credit that's perfect.

So just wanted to say that in case you have to cancel for any reason. Disney rocks!! It's usually a $100 cancellation fee but they waived it immediately when I told them what happened.

We're going to go again, maybe in the spring, when my dad is healthy again & can get insurance. 2 trips to Disney is worth it for my dad to he healthy!

Congrats. That is Disney Magic at it's best!!! Hope you have a wonderful trip. And prayers that your father recovers fully, so that he may join you on your next trip.

It's nice to hear that under such circumstances that Disney can be so gracious!!!

:goodvibes

I am sure you have a lot of weight on your shoulders right now so it must be nice to have some of the burdon lifted.

All the best to your dad

Good Luck to Dad...DH is on his second Pacemaker (new one this past Monday) and he was back at work Tuesday...he'll recover fast!!

:)

Minnie56, is your DH able to go on the rides with his pacemaker? I thought I remember seeing warnings on some of the rides regarding pacemakers?

My dad's heart actually stopped beating 3 times & he flatlined on us & fell down the stairs one of the times so he's pretty banged up. He fell again at the hospital so they put the pacemaker in. He has no evidence of a heart attack & the Dr's are totally puzzled as to what happened. Everything with him is normal. He's never, ever sick, this is the first time he's been in the hospital in his life except for kidney stones. No background of heart trouble in our family at all. Totally weird.

Oh poor guy..I am sure the fall (s) are the worst part! That can beat you up pretty badly. At least there appears to be nothing serious wrong.

Yes-my DH goes on all the rides. Few limitations..tho I know he's not 'supposed' to use a chainsaw?? Right now he's roofing a tiki bar in the backyard--stitches and all:confused3

Yes we got the pamphlet today on what he's allowed to use & not. I had to inform him he was not allowed to use a stun gun or a jackhammer :) He said no problem lol

Good to know he can go on the rides. I just kept thinking all he would be able to do is It's a Small World over & over.
