Disney vs Resale: Suggestions....

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't been keeping up with the resale market lately. But, it seems that right now, I've noticed that it takes about $85/point to get past ROFR for another OKW contract via resale.

We've got a week long trip planned for October at OKW and waitlisting at BWV. Our contract is a small 75 point contract and we are fully borrowed, or course . So, we have Sunday through Thursday confirmed, but need Thurs evening, Fri evening & Sat evening points. Which means that we are going to need to do one of three things...

* Rent Points
* Buy an Add-On direct w/Disney
* Buy a resale contract

....I'd rather not rent the points and spend money that I could towards picking up more points! . But, what does everyone suggest on a smaller contract like this? I'd need an additional 136 points (2BR - Choice Season), so a 70 point contract would do (well, might as well make it 75 points ).

With the resales being @ approximately $85/point it would end up at $6375 + closing costs which makes the cost near $7K. Disney direct would be @ $95/point and a total cost of $7125. Not much of a difference if my math is right.

Thoughts?

If the math is that close I personally would buy through Disney. You would receive those points right away and not have to worry about that ROFR process.

I think the problem you might have resale is finding a contract that size. I'd call TTS and get on their call list for a small contract. OKW has ben going thru for somewhat less than $85. The only ones getting ROFR'd at OKW seem to be small contracts (50) and contracts that are just priced ridiculously low.

Jim, with this being a small contract that I would need, I'm not sure if I can play the ROFR game right now. We only have three months to go before out trip. We might have to go with Disney directly on this one.

Is $95 the current price for a non-Saratoga Springs resort? What's the price on the Saratoga Springs points?

Yeah, you could rent points and buy resale later, but the rental would likely be as much as you save by going resale. I'd call and check the direct price, and also see what, if any, other incentives might apply.

or you could talk to the TTS about doing a lease option purchase deal with a contract that is close to your point total who will rent them to you now if you agree to buy them later.............we actually did a deal like this about 4 yrs ago to dump a small 50 point contract we got at HH................

I have also heard that if you get a tad insistent with Disney, they can come up with some points at other resorts besides the one currently selling.

I can recall a post from a while back where the poster actually said to the DVC guide "I'd like points at BCV. I would prefer to buy them from Disney, but I have no problem buying resale if you can't help me".

Suddenly, Disney came up with BCV points.

Before you jump off that cliff and spend a bunch of money, you might want to check on availabiltiy for those nights! You may be rushing for no reason.

I've already got the Sunday through Thursday booked. I just need the last three nights and we've never had any issues with booking at OKW.

I would buy SSR and get the incentives, I think $93 and 1 or 2 park passes plus extra 12 years.

We got our resale for $74.00 a point at OKW in June(06), but it was for 240 points.

If I could land another $75/point or so contract, I'd be very happy. From what I noticed, I thought that $85 was the current target for those smaller OKW contracts to pass ROFR.
