could someone tell me a little more about disney visa card. how it worksto help with disney trips and what rewards go with teh disney trips. i am think about getting one for my trip to help get points for the rewards.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday.I figured i have to charge the vaca anyways so i might as well earn some pionts while i'm at it. U earn 1 % in disney dollors,and when u have saved up 20 disney dream reward dollors you can "cash them in" for disney merchandise and different things like that. If you are really disciplined about paying off charges right away... you can really rack up the reward dollars. If you pay for regular weekly expenses like groceries and gas, etc. instead of with cash, you earn the 1% in rewards. Go home and immediately make an online payment for the amount you spent. Sometimes as a promotion or extra incentive, they offer double points for cerrain purchases.

I'll admit I often forget my own advice but even without trying too hard, on this trip (we leave Sunday!) we have 155 reward dollars. That's in one year! And we love that you can use the reward dollars all over WDW; it's part of our souvenir fund.

You get 1 disney dollar for each dollar spent. You also get occasional perks like free movie tickets, disney store discounts, etc, but there are no guarentee on those. You can use the disney dollars at any disney location-store, parks, restaurants, etc. Once you earn $10 disnet dollars you can request a separate rewards card and tranfer disney dollars onto it. Thats how you use the reward points.

Check around. You can sometimes get a special offer of $25 (or more) Disney Dream Dollars just for applying for the card.

I found one with a $50 bonus the first time you used the card, so on my first statement I got today I had $59 bonus dollars after 1 month! Hey, that's a meal at O'Hana for our family of 3!!!

There are mastercards that will give you 5% on gas, groceries and drug store purchases and 1% on others. Much better rate of return and then you can take your rewards and buy Disney $.
I have a DV and have yet to use it. It occasionally comes in handy for special deals but I think other cards are much much better.
Of course, only if you pay them off each month!

The Disney Visa is you basic 1% rewards card. So if you charge $500 in purchases you will earn $5. Doesn't sound like much but if you can charge all your purchases and pay off each month then it does add up.

But as was mentioned the Citibank Dividends reward card gives 5% on Grocery, Gas and Drugstore purchases. With means on that same $500 you earn $25. It gives the same 1% on other purchases.

I used the Dividends card on my Grocery and Gas and use the Disney Visa for everything else.

While I completely agree with you that there are better cash back deals to be found, it really depends on what works for you.

If I had a card that paid me real $$, DH would take that money and spend it on something non-Disney related. (DH agrees with this 100%! )

I look at this as the way to save money for Disney and only Disney

Dunno about 12 mos. My offer says 6 mos at 0% on any Disney vacation booked through Disney travel.

So if you do this, then charge only the vacation and put the card aside until it is paid off.

I got $25.00 Disney dollars just for signing up. Then they had a deal recently if you signed up they would give you 50 Disney dollars. So, my husband signed up for a card. $75.00 free!!! We pay off the card every month. We have over $200.00 to take with us when we go next week!

How long does it take to receive your reward card when you cash in the points?

You need at least $20 to cash in the first time. It takes 7 - 10 days to receive the rewards card once you request one. After that you can move over any amount 10$ or more.

Note that the rewards card expires in December of the following year. Cards received now will expire 12/06.

Actually, this isn't the case (pleasant surprise). If you pay off the rest of your balance every month, you won't accrue interest. Payments are applied to other purchases before the vacation package balance. Here are their terms on the 0% for vacation purchases:

"Payments and credits are allocated to balances with lower Annual Percentage Rates (APRs) (such as promotional APRs) before balances with higher APRs except promotional balances on qualified Disney Vacation Club or Disney vacation package purchases."

Forgot to mention that we booked a Disneyland package through AAA. We used our Disney Visa, made sure to mention that to the AAA agent, and the amount for the vacation was eligible for the 0% for 6 months offer. We also got the other Disney visa perks for booking the DL package -- triple rewards, free tote bag, preferred seating, etc.
