I know that you get 10% off certain merchandise purchases over $50 at DW. My question is can we charge these items to our room with our magic bands and still get the discount or do I have to carry my Visa with me?

No. You have to present the Disney Visa and pay with it.

As above. I asked at World of Disney, and they said you must have and use the VISA for the purchase. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

You can't attach the Disney visa onto the magic band when you check in and use it for purchases?

Yes absolutely you can, but the store has no way to confirm what CC you have linked to you MB. They have to physically see your Disney VISA to give you the discount. That's how they explained it when I inquired.

Well yes, you could attach it to your resort account, but the merchants have no way to see that the CC you have on file with your resort is a Disney Visa. Even if they could, that wouldn't prevent you from paying cash or using gift cards to settle the bill at the end of your stay. Consider the 10% savings to be the compensation for the inconvenience of carrying your CC. I have to carry my photo ID, TiW card, DVC membership card AND my AP in order to get the discounts that they entitle me to. It's the way things work.

I guess that makes sense. Thanks!

Thanks! Fortunately I just got a "runners belt" ( a cool, thin Fannie bag) that will hold my card along with my phone. No judging!

I thought you could also get teh same discounts if you use the Disney Rewards card. Anyone know?

you can charge it to your room via your magic band if you have your disney visa linked to it but you will still have to present the actual credit card at the time of purchase in order to get the discount. generally they also want you to mention the discount because some CM's are very rule focused and won't give it to you if you don't.

Also this applies to most Disney owned merchandise places in my experience, you can ask before shopping if you are unsure, so it is worth it to try to bundle purchases whenever possible. I have used it at various gift shops in parks, Disney Springs, resort gift shop, and I even think I used it at the Candy Shop on Main St once as we were also getting some mugs and packaged items in addition to fresh fudge (I combine my purchase with my mother's so we hit the $50 mark every time). I had a Disney reward card my first year and discovered they would not give me the discount, even if it was a split payment. Look on the bright side, you then get your reward points on the CC.

Yes, you still get the discount with the Disney Rewards Redemption Card. Straight from the Disney Rewards Visa site:

Receive 10% off select merchandise purchases of $50 or more at select locations at Walt Disney World® Resort.

You can enjoy this discount any time during normal Theme Park hours. Just use your valid Disney Visa Card or Disney Rewards® Redemption Card and mention this offer.

I've been seeing a lot of people share this sentiment lately. I guess I'm the odd one. I hate carrying things in the parks and will only bring things that fit in my pockets but I feel lost if I don't have a wallet with me.I never know when I might need my ID, insurance card, credit cards or cash.
