Disney Visa Rewards or Other

I know I've seen threads on this but can't find them now. We have a Disney Visa for the Disney rewards - but they are not stacking up very much at all. Last year, we were able to take advantage of the 3x and 4x offers - but have seen nothing like that this year.

I'm wondering if we would be better to convert to a different card with a higher reward offer than Disney.

Suggestions?

For our family we just got the Chase Freedom card. There are several offers out there for this one, but the best I have seen is an offer on bradsdeals. I can't post the link because I am still too new here, but if you go to the site and search chase freedom it should come up.

Anyway, it has a $300 sign up bonus after you make $500 in purchases within the first 3 months. The interest rate isn't good, so I would only get this card if you pay off balances in full each month. It also offers 1% cashback (same as Disney) on all purchases and 5% back on select categories every quarter. This quarter it is department stores, dining out, and I forget what else. Next quarter is gas and amazon.com purchases.

We decided to keep our disney card open so we can have the option of no interest financing for a Disney vacation, and also for the discounts at Disneystore.

Also, if you get the Chase freedom card under the same social security number as your disney card the billing will all be on the same screen. For us it works because it is one less place to have to go to pay bills.

Be aware that you can only get one new Chase credit card every 3 months, but it sounds like you have had your Disney one for a while so you should be fine.

Sorry, that was supposed to be one new card every 6 months... Sorry bout that.

We also have the Freedom card and love it. We got the $300 offer last year and I've been saving it for this upcoming Disney trip... right now we have $430 to cash out with and I'm sure it'll go up by then. You get 5% back on certain categories... Jan.-Mar. coming up is going to be gas so that's a big one for us.

I also just got a Southwest card which offers 50,000 free points (basically 3 round trip flights anywhere OR you can use it to get $600 in Amazon credit or many other things). We're using ours for 2 free tickets to Universal and the rest I'm saving for my next trip to Disney for airfare. There is a $99 annual fee for this one though but I plan to close it once we use up all the points... still well worth it for the flights alone!

I would recommend the Chase Freedom as well. I pay off my credit cards in full every month so the interest rate is not an issue.

The quarterly bonuses limits are higher than Discover. $1500 vs $200/300. Plus you get on 1% cash back on all purchases from day one. I put my groceries on it to earn rewards.

You can use the Cash Back Rewards for gift cards or there is an option to have Chase send you check which I get and deposit it into my special vacation account.

The $300 offer has expired - sorry I missed that one. I'll be watching for another.
