Disney Visa Reward Question

Has anyone redeemed their reward points yet? I'm trying to decide if I should let them sit & keep building or go ahead & redeem them for our trip in August. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Dumbo--I've decided to let them sit until there's enough to really make a dent. I think I'm going to cash them in before our DCL cruise in October 2004, at the rate I'm going I'll have enough to pay for the tips for the servers and steward!

I've read a bunch of posts from people who have used them though, and said they had no problem with it.

I redeemed mine because I'm leave July 2 and believe it said to allow 6-8 weeks for delivery (not sure but really crazy amount of time if you ask me) Anyway the certificates showed up within a week.

P.S. Saw that both of are from NJ, where from? As you can see I'm from Bridgewater which is North Central.

We are leaving for 2 weeks in August and decided to get our Disney Rewards Dollars to use on the trip.. Since they said 6 -8 weeks we ordered last week. They came within 5 days. But atl east I have them in my hand to use and not worry that they won't arrive in time for our trip.

North BRunswick here :)

Wanted to clarify--I won't be giving them to the steward and servers as tips, but putting them on my account at the guest services desk and then charging the tips.

We are going on Thanksgiving and plan on pulling out as many as we can for that trip. I guess our theory is that we're going to be spending the money anyway so mine as well use the disney points. I think if we were to save up so that we have a big amount we might never use them and that would be pointless.

Thanks everyone! :p I'm going to try to hang in until my cruise in December! By then, I should really have a bunch ~ especially since DD's birthday is in November!

BTW, I'm in Burlington County.

I haven't redeemed mine yet, but saw you were from Bridgewater and will be at WDW July 2nd. I am from South Amboy, NJ and will be in WDW 6/30 - 7/7. Small world.

I redeemed $60. last Tues., and they arrived yesterday, for my July D'land trip. Next month I plan on cashing in more for my WDW Aug. trip, unless I have enough time to cash in more for my D'land trip.

I know that this is a stupid question, but can you cash out on awards if your account is not paid in full?

Before you all jump all over me for carrying credit, I have charged our plane tickets and our room (prepaid at the CbyM). I have the money for them, but I figure that while there is 0% interest for a few more months, why not leave the money in the bank to collect a little interest?

My statement says that we have 20 rewards dollars, but I still have a $1000 or so balance on my account. Could I try to get those 20 reward dollars today?

I'm just curious. We are going to WDW in the middle of August - I will want to have to have the Reward dollars by then. So I should pay the balance off next month?

Hope that this makes some sense. I don't feel like I have explained things very well.

Beth,

I just applied for my card last week.
The way I understood all that was read to me, your account just needs to be in "good standing" to redeem your reward points. Therefore, it would be fine to have a balance. ;)

The easiest way to tell if the rewards are available is to check you account online and go to 'Manage Awards' it will tell you exactly how many points you have that are available for redemption. Otherwise if you don't have your account set up online I'm sure a quick call would clear things up.

But from my own experience the points become available as soon as the bill is cut so it does not seem to matter if you pay in full or not.

Thanks for the information workin4vacation and vcasey! :)

I do have my account set up on-line and I need to make a payment anyway, so I will check things out while I am there.

I am hoping to get another $20 or $30 in rewards before we go. And since it sounds as if they are being redeemed so quickly, I will have another month and a half or so to do so.

:)

Beth--

I think that it works this way:

Every month when your statement is posted, they electronically transmit your points to a "clearinghouse" for fulfillment. So when you call to redeem them you aren't calling BankOne, you are calling a call center someplace. Because the points are posted and transmitted before the payment is even due, they ahve no idea if you paid or didn't. They just have the points balance. So like teh other poster said, as long as you are in good standing you can redeem them. BankOne must have a system in place to tag accounts more than 30 days past due and put ahold on teh points at the clearing house.

As far as carrying the balance--I can't blame you. I plan on carrying the balance on my cruise when I charge that--why not? It's 6 months interest free--even if my $7000 is in a savings account earning 1% APY, that's still $35 more than I started with :)
