My booking window opens tomorrow for our cruise! Yay! I will put our Disney Visa as the payment method for our account. But I will also have a redemption card from our Disney Visa that I will either call to purchase onboard credit or add to our account when we board. Between our travel agent onboard credit and Disney Visa points, I don't think we will have any charges to our card (or minimal). Will I still get the discounts for photo packages etc.? I think I want to get the photo package, but use points/onboard credit to do it (I don't think I can for prepurchase since that is paid directly to the photo company).

I was allowed to show my physical Disney Visa card for discounts in the merchandise stores if I wanted to get discounts. You could always leave your Disney Visa on your file until after you've checked in at the port and then once onboard change the payment method. That will ensure the "DV" gets printed on your room key which is what the various merchants use to validate Disney Visa as well.

To get the Disney VISA benefits, you must use your VISA to back up your onboard account. And use that to pay for all charges. If you pay any of the charges to your onboard account with any other form of money (gift cards, redemption card, cash) you do not get the VISA perks.

It wasn't my experience that you had to use the Disney Visa to pay all the charges to get the discounts. When we were paying for something, the CM checked that the KTTW card had the "DV" printed on it and then applied the discount at the point of sale. I had OBC on my account and applied gift cards to my account and still received the discounts. I did not use the discount for the photo package so I can't speak to that one specifically, but it worked in the shops.

Now, whether they follow up to confirm that you paid all your onboard charges through the VISA, I don't know.

They don't. As I described, the CM just checks to see if your KTTW card has DV printed on it and then they apply the discount. Only a very small amount of my onboard account was actually paid with my Disney Visa but I received the discount on my purchases because it is applied at the point of sale, not on the back end when the your account balance is paid off.

You can use the Disney Visa when you do the check in. DV will be printed on your KTTW card. This will entitle you to the discounts. You can go to Guest Services and apply your Disney Visa points. Do that early on the cruise. They will charge your card after you reach a certain dollar amount. Your Disney Visa points and on board credit will be applied before charging your card (as long as you get the points posted early). You will still be entitled to the discount. I just came back from a week on the Fantasy. That's how it worked for us. Enjoy your trip.

Even if you wait until later in the cruise and they charge your DV, you can have them refund the DV and apply your Rewards Dollars instead. They did that for me on my last cruise.
