Disney VISA question

Your KTTW card will be noted with "DV" if you have put your Disney Visa card down for onboard charges. But you should still ask for the discount, as they may not remember to offer it. Virtually all charges onboard will go to your onboard account by using the KTTW card.

Enjoy your cruise!
I have been trying to think of a way I can get both a 10% because of my Disney visa and 10% because of my castaway key gold status but I can't figure out how to do it.
I usually try to get gift cards at 10% off and then put them on my onboard account and then combine that with the 10% from Gold status to save 20% off store purchases on my cruise.
Just an FYI for those of you who are going to give yourself an onboard credit so you have the six months with your Disney visa, I believe you have to call DCL at least three days before your cruise to do this.

You can't, they don't stack. You may use either the Visa discount or the Gold discount but not both.
Your other savings tricks should work.

Thanks for all the good tips! Does anyone know if i can back up my onboard account with my Disney Visa to save the 10% but pay off my account with Disney gift cards that i already have? Also does anyone know how to get 20% off at the spa using the Disney Visa?

Sure you can. During online check in you select payment method using Visa, then when you board the ship give them you gift cards to build up a credit. But if they use up all of the credit, and you charge over the limit, they will then send the charges to your Visa.

ust pre-pay whatever amount you want (at least $100) into your onboard account and that will qualify for the 0% offer

This is such a great idea, and I have never even thought of doing it before! Thanks for all the tips! I will have OBCs and Disney Rewards Dollars to load onto our shipboard acct. And I will estimate how much extra we'll need to prepurchase with the Visa 0%/6mos. Now a question : we'll be on a B2B with two staterooms each leg (my husband and I each have the same Disney Visa); how will our shipboard accounts work, will they roll over or do I have to estimate pretty well, what will happen if I overestimate with the Visa payments?

A B2B is considered as 2 entirely separate cruises; you will need to close out the onboard account before debarking the 1st cruise and start with a fresh onboard account for the 2nd cruise. You will need to try to plan each correctly as it will not roll. If you pre-pay more than you need for the first cruise, it will be refunded back to the payment method from which it came. So I expect an overpayment from your Disney Visa will be refunded back to the Disney Visa.

I believe there is a hierarchy of what gets used first when you have multiple amounts pre-applied to your onboard account -- OBC first, then gift cards. If you have OBC from DCL (from an OBB) I think that is first, then any OBC from a TA, then OBC you purchased. I believe the Disney Visa Rewards Redemption will be considered a gift card for this purpose, and only touched after the OBCs have been expended.

Good luck planning and enjoy your cruises!

Each stateroom is it's own account. I'm not envying you to figure that all out!

The only suggestion I have is to maybe hold off applying the Disney Visa Redemption Rewards until late in the first cruise to see if it's even needed. Then only apply what's needed. While a refund should be immediate, I'd rather hold most of it to be certain it's available for the second cruise.

Enjoy your cruises!

Thanks! Good point! Lol, it's okay, i love the planning aspect of traveling, and thankfully I have some DCL cruises under my belt for reference. :thumbsup2

Each stateroom has it's own account, but all KTTW cards can have the same credit card to back them.

If you have the Disney Premier Visa and you fly, why apply the DV rewards to your shipboard account? (besides being "fun"). We fly from the West Coast for most of our cruises and I feel that it is a better value to earn 2X points at Disney (DCL) than using the rewards there (not getting any credit for those dollars spent). I use the Disney Rewards to reduce my airfare (which earned fully at 1X points and then got reduced by the rewards).

So will we. But I'll buy the air prob 4 months before we sail, and after we apply all the points we can towards the air, we'll still have a good bit earned over the next month or so that will have no place to be spent but on board. I don't like saving the Disney dream dollars, so we'll use the rest on the cruise. Or am i not understanding what you're saying.

How do you get the 10% off merchandise with the Disney VISA? Do you have to use your card to purchase at the shops or can you book to your room and then pay the bill?
Just got off the Magic yesterday. My key to the World Card had a DV code. We were platinum also so we got
the 10% off merchandise anyway but your card will have a DV code which will alert the CM in the shop that you get the 10%.

we agree. you have 'extra' points to use after airfare and you are going to help pay for some of the onboard expenses - there's no problem. i justnsave my points for the next time i fly

thanks for the info. On our Dec 2016 cruise, I used my Disney Visa for onboard account and asked for the discount in stores onboard. They said no and that maybe guest services will apply the discount later, which they did not. I will check my KTTW card in Apr when I board.

You only get the 10% discount on purchases over $50 at Mickey's Mainsail and whatever the other gift shops are called. Do you recall if your purchase was at least $50 (in one shopping transaction)?

The onboard discounts for the Disney Visa only started as of January 1, 2017. They offered a different "perk" in 2016 -- it was a $50 beverage credit if the full amount of the cruise had been paid on the Disney Visa.

As long as you use the Disney Visa as payment for your onboard account in April, the KTTW card will be noted and you should qualify for the discount.

Enjoy your cruise!

Can you preload your visa point onto your room? Or do you just use them to pay your bill at the end of the cruise?
