Should I get a Disney Visa just to be eligible for the discount codes? I hate to get another credit card, even if I don't use it, but if my discounts will be greater, it may be worth it. Also, are the general public codes that come out after the Visa codes less than the Disney Visa codes, or are they the same % of discount?:confused3

Same discount amt................just 3 days before the public. I first applied for my disney visa for the 6 mths sac option for trips:idea: ! I am using it again for my December trip. The visa saved me 225.00 this time for 6 nights 7 days at POP for 1 adult and 1 child (9) . 7 day park hoppers and the dining plan. To top it all off........................i dont have to payoff my trip until november 1. Which means 6 mths same as cash from November!! So..................point being apply and use it just for Disney!! Some offers have 15 mths no interest as well..............So you can transfer balances and pay them off!:cheer2:

I have never used it for the codes, but I use it for the reward points. You get 1 point for every 100 you spend. There for awhile I was charging everything on it and paying it off at the end of the month. I was able to accumulate 325 ( which equals to $325.00)on a rewards card and took that on my trip with me. It paid for a few meals. I love the rewards, it is like extra money for us.

For us the 1% back and 0% balance transfer are just icing on the cake. The best part is the 6-month no interest on vacation packages, so instead of paying of several thousand $$ in one month you can spread it out over the six. This comes in handy for us, not to mention I get to see Cindarella's Castle every time i use my charge card...adds a little magic to my everyday:wizard:

I also forgot to mention if you use your Disney Visa card when booking a tour (like Keys to the Kingdom, Segway) you get a discount of 15% - 20%. Also, last year I used it at the Downtown Disney store and received a 10% discount. You may have to remind them about the discounts and make sure booking a tour you tell them you are using a Disney visa. So, even if you don't use it for the room codes, it does have some perks.

We have $1696 in Disney Visa dollars. We charge everything and pay in full every month. So it's truly $1696 in free money.

For us, it has saved us another almost $400 over what AAA was saving us on our Poly reservation. To me, that was worth it! YMMV Maggie

I like to use my DV card. This trip I have saved $302 using recent code for my december moderate stay as well as having the bonus $$ for little extras when I go.

I got one for two reasons: one to earn the reward points, and two to use to charge our vacation on, as we then have 6-months to pay it off without interest.

just be sure to pay it off every month. I use it for everything like the above poster. Sometimes racking up to $15,000/mo or more. If you don't pay in full, they charge the interest on the average monthly balance not the amount you leave on the card at the end of the month. Also, if you use for balance transfers, that amount pays off first, so again you would be paying interest on the purchases at the high interest rate. Either use it for purchases and reward points or 0% balance transfers, but not both. Just a word of warning. I learned the hard way!

We have $155 on our rewards account.
Still trying to get those $ points.

Every dollar counts.

Great way to pay for meals (my own type of DDP :rotfl: )

I am contemplating the Visa, but I am wondering ... does it offer discounts in addition to passholder discounts, or are they about the same?

We got annual passes, but don't know anything about the parks or discounts! (Just moved here)

Welcome to the Dis! I have been told by the Cast Members that AP hotel discounts are the best that will ever be available, but the new package deal is very close to AP discount. You cannot use both discounts, you would have to chose which one worked for you. We like the room only AP discount for the flexibility of cancellation. You can cancel before 5 days without penalty. I believe the packages require a 30 day cancellation. Other than that the AP will give you more discounts like parking, the ability to buy the Disney Dining Experience, etc.

The Disney VISA is a great card to have. The 6 months 0% vacation is a great perk, and there are some good discounts on WDW resorts.

But I think the Disney Points system is a little weak compared to other cards. Basically you have to spend $10000 to get $100 Disney Dollars. A lot of other credit cards give you double and triple points for certain purchaes (gas, drug stores, etc). I have written to Disney Visa and told them they really should give at least double points for any Disney related purchase. They do periodically run a promotion if you spend $450 a month on certain items (gas, drug stores, home improvement), then you would get double points on those purchases. But it is still somewhat lame compared to other credit card rewards programs.

The double points system is even worse than that. The threshold for double points is different for everyone...must be based on you average monthly bill. Whenever there is a double point promotion, I have to spend more than $2500 a month on the items to get the double points!

Hello,
Would you mind telling me how much more in percent you saved using the DV over AAA? AAA gave me 15% off rack for Jan. Does DV give more than that? If I does, I may apply for the card, but I wanted to check first.
Thanks for any help, I appreciate it!

I've had the Disney Visa since it first came out.
So far I have about $1300 in rewards.
We plan to use whatever is on their towards the 15 night Panama cruise next May.
I have never used the resort packages/codes with the Disney Visa.
I just use the FL Res Room Only codes.

I've *always* thought that Disney should offer double points for Disney-related purchases. I mean, it all comes from the same pot, right - what would be the harm? Oh well, maybe in time... :guilty:

I also agree with the other poster that said that the Disney Visa rewards are pretty weak. We also have a Delta Skymiles AMEX too and we rack up approximately 50,000 miles every 6 months. We do put everything on our AMEX, but they also offer double miles for grocery stores and gas, so AMEX does give that extra perk for using the card for everyday purchases.
