Hi,

Does the Disney Visa DEBIT card give the same offers as the credit card?

So...I can book a package using my Disney debit card whenever the special is offered to VISA holders?

I think I understood it as such but just making sure :)

TIA!

How does one get a visa debit card???? I have only seen the regular disney visa application. Does it rack up reward points with use like the regular visa? Any info would be great.

You have to have a chase checking account to get the Disney Visa Debit Card. It racks up points also, but not as fast as the Credit Card.

Yes, as PP mentioned you must have a checking account with Chase to get the Disney debit card.

The points rack up at half the rate of the credit card - .5% instead of 1% - and you cannot finance vacations for six months interest-free (but you can pay for your vacation with the debit card and accumulate points on it); all other Chase Visa benefits do apply: discounts, photo meet-and-greet, etc.

I happily use it instead - I closed my Disney Visa credit card account.

Notes about the Debit card (which I carry myself). There is a $25 annual fee. The first year, this is refunded to you as credit on your Rewards card. After that, it is not.

Reward dollars accrue at half the rate of the credit card.

I think by default there is an over draft protection feature (i think this is tru of all Chase debit cards) that lets you go over your available balance, but starts to charge interest like a credit card when you do. You can turn this off on the web site (on my account page, there is a big link to do so). In that case if you try to charge more than you have, the transaction is declined.

If you religiously pay off the credit card every month, it will earn you points faster and be a better deal. But of course the debit card won't get you into big debt!

Interesting to know if it has some of the visa signature features like the credit card has, like warranty protection and warranty extension - www.visa.com/warrantymanager

Also, does it allow to get to premium tickets or special priced ones like for Mary Poppins in Broadway?

Can someone direct me to where to apply for the debit card/chase checking account?
I am not familiar with chase but think this might be a good option for me versus the credit card.
Can anyone else who has one tell me of the benefits for disney that it has?
thanks so much

oh ya one more thing, how do you accrue the .5%? Is it when you make a purchase with your debit card? thanks

This is the OP.

I got my card in the mail today!

I was so excited to find out about the debit card. We don't use credit cards so I thought we were out of luck on the Disney Visa promos. BTW, I think I saw the info on mousesavers.

Anyway...just went on chase.com and applied for a checking account. I could make an initial deposit using my current checking account (minimum $25). Be sure to choose the Disney debit card from your debit card choices. You also get a choice of some very cute card graphics.

One thing to be careful about is they give you a choice of overdraft protection. This is NOT the kind of overdraft protection I am familiar with with our current bank, M and T Bank. With our bank, we actually have an amount we can go over without penalty and we just have to pay it back. With Chase you get charged an overdraft fee for each charge beyond what you have in the account. Basically they are doing you a "favor", LOL, by paying the amount you overcharged and then charging you a fee. If you decline, though, your charges will just not be approved.

Anyway...it's nice to have use of the debit card to get those Disney perks with no temptation to overcharge.

Well I went and applied for the debit card. I did go look at the consumer complaints about Chase. I know that every credit card company has its amount of horrible things that it does to its customers. I will say I feel a little more comfortable having only a debit card and NOT the credit card.
While I will ecrew a slower amount in rewards, I dont think I want to deal with the credit issues that Chase has.
Well we will see how it goes. :confused3

This is interesting. I never knew about the DISNEY VISA debit card either. So . . . it really has a $25/year fee attached to it??? Is it just me or is it odd for a debit card to have an annual fee? (I work in a bank, and I have never heard of a debit card having an annual fee.)

Actually, when I started filling out the checking account application for the Debit card this week, the fine print on mine said $6 MONTHLY fee UNLESS you use it 5 times in a month. So if I decide to follow through (I HATE CHASE..but they are the only bank with Disney deals, so I am having a personal dilema), then I will load enough on there to buy gum or milk 5 times, LOL. There was no mention of a minimum purchase. I just hate that the retailers will have to pay the transactions fees. I WILL make sure that I decline overdraft on the Debit, bc I have read too many complaints about that from consumers.

I highly discourage anyone from getting their credit card!
