We are debt free and haven't had a credit card for 10yrs. We are hesitant on getting it. What are the Benicia of having it? How long do you have to have it before you cancel it? We wouldn't want to keep paying $49annual fee if we weren't going to use it but for discounts for our trip.

The only one I know is you get discounts at disney. Also being a chase card, there are some chase exclusive things that are available during events like the food and wine festival.

It is my understanding that most applications for the Disney Premier card have at least a $50 credit, so to me that covers your first year to try the Premier card. I had the regular no fee card and upgraded to the Premier to try the year. The customer service person told me I can go down the no fee card as long as I call before the next fee is due. So right now I'm getting my 2% and will evaluate my spending and decide when it gets close to my year.

If you don't want to pay the fee, then you can still get your discounts and 1% with the no fee card.
The most important part of this reward deal is you HAVE TO pay off the card each month to make it worth using it.
I charge all things I would normally pay cash for, and utility bills that I would normally pay monthly and don't charge me a fee to use a visa payment. So each month when my card payment is due, I have the money to pay off the card.
Things add up very fast. And with my up and coming vacation I'll get 2% rewards. I also like with the premier card I can pay for airfare with my rewards. (charge the airfare then call and use the equal amount of rewards) However right now I'm saving my points for a future Disney vacation.
And I just read that the reward cards don't expire anymore. Points not transfered do expire in 5 years. But I will easily use the points before the 5 years.

If you go to the disney rewards visa website it will spell out the difference between the two different cards so you can decide.
If you are debt free and don't have a card, sounds like you can pay it off every month and the rewards sound like they can work in your favor.
Good luck deciding. For me this works.

Can you get the regular card or do you have to have the premier card to get the discounts that disney offers for room discounts and so on.

Regular card gives you discounts on tours and such. Room discounts? I think you mean when/if Disney offers card olders an advanced chance to book "deals" before released to the general public. Yes the no fee card gives you that access.
I will tell you that this year there was no advanced opportunity for card holders. We were in the queue with the general public so I would not put a lot of weight on that option.
As I said go up to the website and they show you the difference between the two.
If you won't spend a lot in the 2%category then you are better off with the no fee card and taking the 1%.

Really check out the site and the table with the comparison.

We have the just the regular Disney visa. Even at 1% points do earn up. The last time we went to Disneyworld in 2009 we had enough points to pay for our park tickets. That time we stayed off property which I will never do again; but anyway and still had dollars left over for souvenirs.

i know you get a disney discount like 10%-15% if you shop in the parks or even disney stores

do you also get the 2% back disney dream points with the discount when using for disney park purchases?

DH and I each have the no fee version and never upgraded to the one with the fee since we tend to focus our spending for airline miles and hotel points. However, we still will use the Disney card for the benefits when they are greater than AP, TIW, DVC discounts or the value we place on reward miles and points that we would lose for not using a different card. We also like having it for Epcot's Food & Wine early booking day available only to Chase Disney Visa card holders. We were able to use that benefit to book Wine View Lounge seats for Party for the Senses this year. They sold out very quickly on the regular booking day. Before getting into the collecting airline points and miles game we used our Disney Visa card to pay for everything. We earned enough points to pay for a couple of DVC member cruises with our Disney Dream reward dollars.

I have a Disney code to earn a $200 Disney gift card instead of the $50 gift card when you open a new credit card account. It is for the no fee credit card so a really good deal in my opinion. You get 1% back in reward dollars for qualifying purchases. You also get merchandise discounts, the special Character Meet & Greet for Disney Visa cardholders, and it gives you 6 months no interest to pay off Disney vacations. PM me if you'd like the code and info on how to sign up. :) The code is good until September 30,2015.

I have that $200 disney gift card code with a new account too. Does anyone know about that $200 expiring after you open your card? I would like to try this, and use it towards tickets, but we are not planning to travel to Disney for at least a year, and only if we can afford it by then.

I also have a slightly off topic question about the $200 deal. After you spend the minimum ($500), how long will it take for your gift card to arrive? Also, is there a way to see if you have reached that, or are close to it?
