disney visa card

We have $160 on our card (I thought I was doing well until reading some of your posts!) that I was planning on using as "mad money" to buy DS whatever he wants in the parks. My thought is that this is found money so we might as well have fun with it - plus we then have a limit on souvenirs - when the money on the card is gone we are done. My question is how does this work? Can I go into a shop and spend $12.50 on something? Do they take $12.50 off of the card or does it need to be in whole dollar increments? If so do I pay the 50 cents in cash or do I lose the change every time I do this?

Thanks for your help.

We only have 35!!! The points just accrue so sloooooooowly that we switched back to our USAir card. We've gotten a lot of tickets that way.

I posted this question in another forum and haven't gotten a reply. Maybe since some of you are Disney Visa users you will have an answer. When I cashed my reward points in a few months ago (we were planning on a Thanksgiving trip that did not take place) I received large cardboard Disney Reward Dollars. When I cashed some reward points in last month I received a Disney Debit Card. My question - have any of you redeemed the dollars and did you have any difficulty?

bornwiththeears,

We didn't have a problem at all in October using the cardboard reward dollars. Loved having them. I just hope the card works as well as the cardboard dollars did.

Hi, I am new to the board. We are planning a trip to Disney in June. I was looking at the Dinsey Visa card that you can earn dollars on. I was wondering can you use those dollars on meals at Disney World? I was planning on using some of the dollars for souvenirs but I thought it would be nice to have money saved for meals at Disney World also.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

hI NHORSES,

you can use those reward dollars for food in restaurants in the parks, merchandise, your disney hotel room charge.

Just about everything except the food vendor carts. Not sure about the carts.

I called and asked this question, and was told that the Rewards Card was good anyplace that is set up to accept credit/debit cards. The CM said that it pretty much only excluded moving carts, since they wouldn't have a computer for transactions. That leaves a lot of places to use the card!

Thank you to the person who mentioned the expiration date. I cashed out awhile ago intending to use the money at the Disney Store, but we've decided to go on a small trip next fall. Anybody know if we can use Reward Dollars to buy Disney Dollars so that I can still use this money for our trip?

Just so it's not misleading to everyone, it's not 1 reward dollar for every $100 you spend. I spent over $15,000 last year and always paid it off every month. My total reward points are only 159. I called about it and was told it's 1% of the total. I am really wondering if it's worth it to have this card as I do have to pay it off every month because of the high interest rate. I have not used it yet but the reason I took it out was because I thought they're would be special discount offers for package trips ect. Anyone know anything about this? The lady at Disney told me about transfering reward points to get the reward card and then just using it at Disney. Are there no special deals for all this money we've charged on our cards??!!! If not, I may as well use a low rate card!

We have been using ours since the card started. It is only 1% of the total and if you get a credit on your card (i.e. we cancelled some reservations) they take the reward dollars that were given at the time you made the expenditure out of the next ones issued. I was a little surprised at that. In my statements they advertise double reward points if you spend a certain amount at the Disney Store or if you book a vacation plan. I am sure there are other cards that give better deals, but if you pay the balance off each month and you are planning a trip to WDW it is worth while.

Personally, I have the Disney card, and just think it is better to use my Discover Card and get good ole US dollars back instead. I just request money back so I can put it right into our ING account. I think now with Discover you can also transfer electronically to a bank, leaving out the middleman (me!).

I was wondering if those booked vacation packages through Disney are worth it or if you can still do better booking everything seperate? Anyone know? I've never been to DL only DW. The way I understand it if you want to take 6 months to pay it all off, (no interest) you have to book a vac. package deal through Disney.

I think as use of the card grows, the benefits will grow. To answer one question, you must book through the appropriate disney people to get 6 mo interest free vacation deal.

In our case, the package was cheaper. But it depends on what discounts you can get on room only, and exactly what kind of ticket you want.
We are doing the kids stay and play free, and getting the $100, so when you subtract that $100 (were going to use more than that as spending money anyway) and we are staying 5 nights, and getting 2 kids free, it was a better deal than just getting our cabin for $37 a night cheaper getting the CTH code.
If a discount code saved you more per night than you were getting in the value of the free passes, it wouldn't be worth it.

DisneyMom5, Thanks for the info. How do you get the codes? I have Dreamsunliminted working on it but I don't know if they use the codes or not. I need to just do it myself and see if they can come up with anything cheaper. There will be 7 of us, 2 rooms and there are 3 kids ages 15,12,5. We would be staying on site, I hope at either DLH or GC. I have always heard DL had good package deals. Not so for DW. You can usually do it yourself cheaper.

We did not sign up for the Disney Visa when it first came out because it didn't look like the rewards were all that great. A couple months ago we paid off our CCs and decided to get a new one for rewards, and applied for the Disney Visa. Well, after 2 months, and providing them with additional documentation, they turned us down! I think the reason was too many recent credit inquiries or something... Our combined income is over $100k and our debt ratio is low, as well as having excellent credit, so this whole experience is telling me that maybe I don't need a Disney card after all.... But I do wish they kept the old Disney Club :( We have no use for package discounts since we are DVC members.

Bubbasmom- You are probably just as well off to get a low interest credit card or a Discovery card. If I had understood the reward system I would of never gotten one. I, like someone else that posted earlier, thought it was $1 per $100. We pay everything with checks and my husband would not like me to charge everything on a credit card like some people do just to get it high for the rewards. I think that's the only way it makes since, if you put everything on it. Anyway, don't be too disappointed. With a low interest card you can actually leave a little on it if you get straped. With Disney, I'd starve before I paid that high interest!!!

Ok, please explain the points to me.

I know last october I ordered 8 disney 10 dollars reward thingies. So I had a total of $80.00 to spend in Disney with my 8 points that I redemed.

Now I'm ready to request a reward card. I have 120 points. Please tell me that if I request the 20 points to get the reward I'll actually be requesting $200. Does that makes sense?

This makes me nervous. I sure hope so. I'd like to have $1000 to take to Disney to spend at the world. I hope the redemption of the rewards hasn't changed to were I will only have $120 to spend.

Thanks for any input!

I believe that 1 point equals 1 dollar on your rewards card. So if you redeem 20 points you are getting $20 loaded onto your rewards card. I'm thinking that perhaps you had 80 points accrued and ordered 8 ten dollar reward certificates??

Sorry....

I haven't gotten a rewards card yet, but the way Disney explained it to me was for my 159 points, that would be $159 on my card. I decided to just let mine ride for another time when we go to Disney because I believe they are good till 2008. Maybe by then I'll have enough to pay for a room for one night!!!
