Disney visa card

When you open an account you get a debit of $100. You also have 6 months to pay for your cruise with interest-free. $50 on-board credit.

When will i see the $100 credit that can be used onboard?

The $100 credit is to your Visa bill after you purchase a certain amount.

From what I heard this morning, the 2016 Visa benefit has not be announced so no one knows for sure what the benefit will be if you are booking that far out.

Can you tell me more about this? I haven't read anything about the onboard credit for new bookings.

According to reports in an earlier thread, the onboard credit that you receive for paying in full with your Disney Visa can only be used for beverages. This should only affect new bookings using the Visa but they perk is negotiated from time to time with DCL so there is no telling how long it may last.

Beverages, as in alcoholic beverages? Or does that cover soft drinks in a can from room service and CC?

This is from the Disney Visa Rewards website:

$50 Onboard Credit on a Disney Cruise4
Receive a $50 onboard credit when you pay for your Disney Cruise Line vacation in full with your Disney Visa® Card and mention this offer. Call 1-800-257-2024 or your travel agent to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation and ask for booking code DCC.

and the fine print (highlighting is mine):
4. Must use your valid Disney Visa Card to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation for sailings through 12/30/2015 to receive a $50 onboard credit good towards beverages. Call 1-800-257-2024 or your travel agent to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation and ask for booking code DCC. Offer must be requested at time of booking for new bookings only. The onboard credit is per stateroom for each stateroom paid in full with your Disney Visa Card. Offer is valid for up to two staterooms. Any unused portions are non-refundable and non-transferable. Cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts and is for personal use only. Offer subject to change or cancellation without notice. Ships’ Registry: The Bahamas. Chase is not responsible or liable for fulfillment of this offer.

As to exactly how it will work? Since cruises through this year are under the old offer that wasn't restricted to beverages, nobody has experience yet to say. I would guess "beverages" means any since it isn't further defined -- alcoholic drinks, sodas served at a bar or from room service, specialty coffees at Cove Cafe, smoothies... but we'll have to wait and see.

I enjoy 1-2 frozen cocktails a day plus I like specialty coffee beverages so I will have no problem using up that $50.;)

If you are looking to get a Disney VISA, send me a PM and I will give you a special offer code where you will get a $200 gift card for signing up for one.

Do you know if the 6 months interest free applies to the deposit?

The 0% interest offer applies to any DCL payment ... deposit, interim payments, final payment. So you could have multiple 0% interest balances with different 6-month due dates -- it will be spelled out for you on the statement each month.

Enjoy your cruise!

Perfect. Thanks for the info.

I understand I would not get the $50 onboard drink credit if I did not book with this card. Could I still pay off the balance of my DCL cruise with this card and have 6 months interest free to pay it off?

Thanks

Do you know if the 6 months interest free applies to the deposit?

It has to be over $100. I booked an future cruise onboard once (3-night) and the deposit was less than $100 and did not qualify for the 0%.

You can also pre-pay your gratuities and get 6 months on that as well.

:thumbsup2. We have done this. Any money that you add pre-cruise to your onboard acct with the Disney Visa will qualify for 0%. I usually add enough to cover tips and any excursions that we have planned.

You have to add the money pre-cruise though to qualify. Any onboard charges that you charge to the DV will not qualify for 0%.

For Disney Purchases including Disney Cruise Line, twice the Rewards on a Regular Disney Visa...

For significant purchases like that, those Rewards ADD UP FAST!

IMO, well worth the $49 annual fee...
I just UPGRADED MINE.. Had a promo, $50 back in Rewards...
First year of annual fee, just "negated" by the promo of $50!:thumbsup2

just a heads up re the 6 months interest free thing - after 3 or 4 months of carrying over your cruise balance interest-free, chase "helpfully" (their words) starts applying any payments to that interest free portion of your bill.

so, if you do not normally carry a balance, and you pay your new charges in full, they will apply that payment to the interest-free cruise charges instead of the new charges, and you will get charged interest on your new purchases.

basically, if you normally pay your bill in full each month, you only get 3-4 months interest free, rather than all 6.

i don't remember the exact time frame (3 or 4 months) because i'm so paranoid about it i make sure to pay my cruise charges off in 3 months. you can call and ask them which statement they'll start applying payments to the interest-free portion first, though, and they should be able to tell you.

between not really getting 6 months interest free, and now the credit being limited to drinks (which i don't generally buy onboard, since soda is free anyway), the value of the card is really going downhill as far as cruises are concerned. still worth it for the disney dollars, but the perks are definitely eroding.
